Hey, I've got a request for the 1BC GOTM procedure. Can we PLEASE use the CivFanatics "HOF" Mod for all future GOTM generations? Right now BTS 3.13 is FULL of bugs. This HOF mod addresses most of them. I have twice been unable to load the 1BC BTS GOTMS, most likely because I have installed other Mods folders (e.g., Grave's History in the Making Mod, my own "Scipio's Slow Down Mod," etc.). WHY the fricking thing would think that the creation of a NEW directory in the Mods folder constituted a "change in assets" that would be illegal for a straight up game, I have no idea. Bugs would be my first presumption. My second would be that the "Lock modified assets" function in the custom game window does not work right. In any event, I've not had problems loading CivFanatics PBEMs generated in the HOF Mod, and those guys over there are inevitably gonna de facto support that Mod ad infinitum. I've considered this in the past, but I want to keep these games as simple as possible to play (other than the fact that you can't get yours to load, obviously). I think more people, especially those who are new to the process, will play if all they have the do is download the save and play, as opposed to loading a mod when they want to play the GOTM. I wouldn't be opposed if someone wants to set up a game using the mod, but the main game each month should be mod free, IMHO. Nuclearcow (2/12/2008)
I think it'd be cool to have a slight difference between the CIV III & CIV IV GOTM 'badges.' Something to indicate that you're a Corporal in CIV IV GOTM and maybe a SGT Major in CIV III, or whatever. Allowing someone to have both of those 'badges' or whatever they are called, on their profile. Easy for me to say since 'Goose made these, huh? I have been thinking about that off and on, and thought I'd post the suggestion finally. Thanks for volunteering me for more work. The current system came into effect because I was tired of making new images every month. The new ranking system is much simpler, and I think it integrates very well into the board. Also, the CivIII games are beginning to wind down, for the most part. If there is a resurgence in CivIII participation, I might be persuaded. Also, it's not easy to put two images where the current rankings reside. The board software only allows for one image. Before the current system, I got more images there by using photoshop to stack them into the same image like this one:
However, this was some of the busy work I was trying to get away from. |
