Im open to any settings, im still fairly new to Civ 3, like it a lot but don't have to much time due to school and work. Im in Colorado, so Mountain time. A PBEM would work for me because i always have time each night to check my email. Somehow though i must have deleted part of the gameanyway upon trying to run Civ III PTW i had it begin to start up, the screen went black, but then it was a crash to desktop.i tried uninstalling PTW and the uninstall shield uninstalled way too quick. Basically i saw the uninstall shield at 100% and then it finished. whats more the files for the game were still there under Atari games  So i deleted the files.i tried selecting 'repair' and 'modify' but they only do the same thing, they zip to 100% having done absolutely nothing.i have the disk in, it gives me the option to play the game, uninstall, register or view the readme. When i select play of course it does nothing. But when i select uninstall, remove, etc. it goes through lightning fast having done absolutely nothing.Civ III PTW still shows up under programs that i have installed in the control panel.this is a major pain because i really wanted to get some Civ III fun in on this saved game i had (lost now) before i go to work for this maniac workaholic nutjob in the morning tomorrow but that was 5 hours ago. Both of us have Windows XP and are using CivPTW ver 1.27. We've been playing for awhile and have stopped and reloaded games several times without a problem. Now, all of a sudden we've hit a snag. During our last session, the host computer quit out of Civ with a fatal error. We went back to reload an autosave file from the turn before the problem. The host reloaded and the client joined in multiplayer setup room. In past reloads, when the client joined in the setup room, the client would see a progress bar which was obviously the game being loaded to the client machine. Now, no progress bar appears. Furthermore, all the "slots" which would normally show the various players and their country names is blank on the client machine (the host sees everything the same; ie. correctly). Now the client machine can select the checkmark to indicate he's ready although the slot next to the check mark box is blank. If the client does this, the host machine can launch the game. However, when the host launches, he can see the playing board but gets a message "waiting for session to begin." The client machine, meanwhile remains in the setup room and nothing changes. We tried to load earlier autosave files to no avail. Please help. I really don't want to lose all those hours of gameplay. Nearly through the Ancient Age, I began to have some trouble making money. So, I adjusted my spending accordingly, setting up some cites to produce wealth, while at the same time, adjusting the production sliders to make more gold. Well, it helped a bit, but didn't bring me out of the red and soon, my bank account hit ZERO! I was losing over 100 gold per turn. But then, nothing! No warnings of city improvements or units that would need to be scrapped or sold to balance the budget. Nothing. Every turn, I would still get a message telling me that the treasury was getting low, but then no penalty. I was playing the Japanese. I called my friend and told him about this phenomenon. He also set his slider to 100% science production and nervously watched his treasury diwindle. Again, no penalty for getting to zero and running at a loss. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks.

The city was destroyed -- did I do that?

I just upgraded from Vanilla to PTW and in my new game I have noticed here and there some new stuff (and problems). For example, I suddenly saw I could upgrade my swordsmen and got Mediaeval Infantry (6.6.3!!!) with which I have extended my early wars and seriously beat my neighbors (Rome, France and Carthage simultaneously in a 3 front war) and already got a Leader (hey? Rename my MI unit? ), but that is not what I wanted to write about. And about complaints: I had to interrupt my game and when I loaded the save game, suddenly all forests looked ugly; all colors lost, leaving a black and white blur to remain. A problem that went away after closing civ and reload after reopen. So here's my observation. In my early wars I have captured a number of cities, some of which I decided to raze and some I kept. But there were a few, that were destroyed in the fight. I did not get the option to keep or raze; my MI beat the spearman or warrior in the city and my military advisor informs me that the city was destroyed. Did I do that? Is that a new feature? Can't you capture size 1 cities any more or is size not the factor?

Helicopters Dont Suck !!!!!!!

 :p :p  :D Your Replies are all out of context and you all have my message all wrong.I Love helicopters particularly wheni need to do reconnaissance for bombingthe bejesus out of one of my enemiessupply lines especially when bombing from a fleet of Aircraft Carries supported by an armada of Battleships.!!! :p :p :p :p

I've only played once, and they all quit.

I've actually played a couple times, but the first time everyone quite a hour into the game. It got me thinking that maybe the movement before has something to do with it, and it appears that my theory was right. I like the idea of both - if I can march into Beijing and kill Mao, then the Chinese should be vanquished, even if they have 5 other cities. And the capture the Queen element sounds interesting in theory, but I've yet to be able to put in practice, largely due to Regicide.I've wiped out a couple of Civs - the Zulu and the Arabs. Both times I marched straight into their capitals (after knocking out a couple of frontier cities), with the aim in mind of capturing the princess and dragging her back to my capital. On both occasions, I've overcome a slew of defenders in the capital, and after slaying the last one, I see her: the Princess! So I go in to grab her, only the Regent is there too, and he gets slain. Then that's it - the opposing Civ is defeated, all their cities vanish, and the queen along with them. So basically, from where I stand, its impossible (or at least highly unlikely) that you will be able to capture the Queen in a game when Regicide is also an option. The Regent will be with the Queen, and has to be killed first, at which point the Queen (and the rest of the opposing civ) is no more. So if you want to capture the Queen, turn off Regicide.

PTW GOTM?

Why haven't there been any recent Play-the-World GOTMs?

TET scenarios

I'm very intrigued with the TET "real" scenario with "up to 31 civs, 250 cities in their actual historical locations", etc.I've started a number of versions of this game at the Chieftain or Warlord level, all with regicide turned on:1) Hungarians: by about 750 AD had managed to conquer the Celts, Germans, and Poles, and went through a period in the early middle ages during which EVERY OTHER civ on the planet had declared war on me, but I managed to fend them off and slowly get them all to accept reasonable peace terms, with the exception of India, China, and a couple others, who continue to hurl their soldiers at my wall of Hungarian Pikemen and Medieval Warriors across Eastern Europe. I'd keep playing, but I have a feeling this one is already decided: I'd win in the long run.2) Aztecs, with ALL other civs on the planet, and Regicide: By about 1000AD had expanded out to cover all of Central America, most of Western, Central, and Southern North America, and a foothold in the north coast of South America, with Democracy, several wonders built, and no wars waged at all.Just curious what folks think of these turns of events, and to hear other players experiences with the TET"realworld" scenario.CheersScipio

North America Mod?

Is anyone familiar with a map that covers North America, or at least the Eastern half?I'd like to make an American Revolution mod with DYP for PTW, and really none of the maps I've found are satisfactory.Apart from the Great Lakes maps, which do not adequately cover the southern east coast, the only viable maps are the world maps which are too big really to offer the kind of detail to make a good American Revolution mod.Scipio

nothing seems to be happening

I finally got PTW, been playing it for a few weeks. I'm playing this PBEM game against other human players. I pressed 'end of turn' and after that I see human units moving. How can these units move after I pressed 'end of turn' and before they played their turn. Or did they already play their turn but I couldn't see their units before pressing end of turn??? How the hell can these units move after my turn while it's obvious they moved these units on their turn: I should have seen this movement last turn!!! Sorry for my language but these things really tick me off. These weird bugs really need to be fixed as it will seriously impact a game and can be a difference between winning and loosing a war. Firaxis is down two points because I'm playing with the 1.27 UK patch and they still haven't fixed important issues like these. I am not pleased  and I'm gonna write a complaint to Firaxis.PS. In previous games I have seen barbarian movement as well after pressing end of turn but I was always under the impression their moves were played after my turn in between AI/human turns. We had been playing this for some time when he came by to visit and we decided to keep playing the Pbem game (kinda like hotseat style) while he was there. I quickly noticed that at the end of each turn he got to see all the attacks that enemy units made on his empire. At the end of my turn I never got to see any of this on my empire and so at the beginning of each turn I must carefully look over my empire to see if anything has happened. I have tried many times to adjust the preferences but nothing seems to change. Whats going on here? We will play this game to its finish but I feel quite handicapped never really knowing whats going on. As a test we started a hotseat game and once again I could not see attacks on my empire but he could with his. In both cases I guess I am the host and am the first empire - is that the problem? We were using 1.21f and now have 1.27 but no change.

Just got PTW...

... and have a few questions about multiplayer. For instance, in a regular Civ3 single-player game, I usually prefer Babylon (religious, scientific) - giving a good science and culture/happyness advantage. In PTW however, I'll choose the Germans (militaristic, scientific), because I expect war against human opponents to be much tougher, while maintaining a good tech position. Also, although I am yet to try it, the Germans have the potential to run over everything they come across in the late industrial age. Imagine:- Late industrial age; All major production cities have factories, possibly coal plants.- The Panzer unit is available, with a movement of 3, making it vastly superior to enemy armour.- Railroads are everywhere, making a blitzkrieg "city hopping" approach feasible.- Your first victory with a Panzer triggers a Golden Age...- If you need even more production, mobilize your economy for war!A simply awesome production potential, even in medium and small cities, combined with the superb offensive power of the Panzer, gives you about 20 turns of über-umph. Being militaristic, many Panzers will go elite fast, you can combine them into special elite divisions and use these to crack those especially tough nuts.Guderian would have a field day :)

1.21UK?

Does anybody know whether the 1.21PTW UK patch is out yet, because all the other european ones seem to be...
