Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I read through quit a bit of the forum and couldn't find anything dealing with this particular problem.Basically, when I complete a conquest, and the game goes through the different ending screens, it always crashes when I try to move past the Victory Status screen. (I think the guy with the hammer is supposed to come next?). Windows tries to send an error report, and then I have to force the Civ app to quit. I've won victories for both 'Mesopotamia' and 'Rise of Rome' and it does the same thing. I've also played an Epic game all the way through, however, and there was no problem. I'm attaching a saved game from right before the victory in the Mesopotamia scenario, but I'm not sure the problem is with the sav file. Any ideas?thanks!

world war expansion pack

i think that civ3 should have a world war expansion pack. where their is a map of the world that has all the modern nations take sides in world war 3. it would be a real world war 3!

Multiplayer over LAN help needed

To everyone, I am new to this group but a veteran Civ player. I was a democracy so the war weariness was getting to be a big problem. After enjoying about 5 years of peace, I was attacked by by neighnors the Arabs. The very next turn, all my cities were rioting again, including my main line core cities. I thought you got a litlle breather from war weariness when starting a new conflict and when you are fighting a defensive war. Has something happened to increase war weariness in C3C? This is the first epic game I have really played since installing the expansion pack.

WHAA!?

Take a look at this. Maybe this is the first time this phenomenon has been screen shotted. That Aztec galley is capturing my city! I went at Rome with 4 or 5 immortals and got put into my golden age. I'm not sure if this game is worth playing out anymore, I kinda think as long as I fill the territory it's over... Quite annoying. It was a four player quick game(Quick means three hours) and I was playing the Netherlands vs Mayans, Iroqouis and Ottomans. Pangea 70% water, tiny map. Started off good, on top on the score, power and culture, but as I got to settling my seventh city the Ottomans had closed me in territorial wise. The peninsula I had started on was now quite a difficult start location. I tried to get a galley to drop off a settler on the coast a few tiles to the west, but that damn Ottoman got a city up before me. I couldn't get any new cities up and running. Within a short time the map was taken and I had no place to expand. I had a strong base of cities however, good production and financially strong, but as the game went on the downsides became more and more visible. No horses, no Salpeter. All I had was an iron source. As the other players could expand more than I they soon started to leave me behind tech wise. Thankfully I had allied with the Iroqouis against the ottomans and we traded techs all the time. We had not declared war yet, but it as fast approaching. The Mayan player declared war against the Iroq. and then signed a peace treaty the next turn, and that was about all he did. I had trained dozens of MI and I got the Knights Templar up and running so I had a strong army, but as I couldn't expand I couldn't suport a much larger army. 20 or so MIs, some Trebuchets and a few KTs was all I had. The Ottomans started building up forces on the Iroq. border and the Iroq. player declared war on the Ottomans. Of course, I joined in. I sent my army up towards the nearest town and started pillaging, trying to take out his strategic resources but I was too late. He had a smal force of Siphai and pounded my army to pieces before I could cut off his last horse resource. The Iroq. were doing fine and was taking over cities here and there(About six total, not counting two that he raised), but as we could not cut off the Ottoman horse supply he could keep on pumping out Siphai and eventually the war was going downhill. My second army was eliminated and I was forced to sign a peace treaty with the Ottomans as he had about twelve Siphai on my border and all I had were some Swiss Mercenaries. The Iroq. player lost a city near his capitol and as I signed the peace treaty he quit the game. I soon followed him, knowing that I had nothing to counter the Siphai with. And so my little online skirmish ended, but that's not the end of the tale. One tile away from my border the Ottoman player had his only source of Salpeter! When the game started I had thought about where to place my second city and the choice was down to two tiles. I thought that I should build as far away from my capitol as possible to have more expansion possibilities but finally built the city on the tile nearest the capitol as it was a superior city site. If I had built my city ONE tile further away the Ottoman player could never have built his Siphais and the story might have had a happy ending. And so I say, Damn the Siphai!

Diety and Sid Level

Just gone through the DemiGod level.Anybody has won on the Diety and Sid levels without cheating, please give us a tips. thanks,Currently, I'm in the 1/4th of the game in the Diety level. I'm inclined to think persia and india are going to see the greatest increase because of their UU bonus and I think there will be a couple that read weaker. Vanilla only first.Little defination... I'm breaking this into unit strength as read by the military adivsor divided by the shield cost of the unit. This should give a good indicator as far as how much a unit costs compared to the power level the AI will read it as.So just for interest, you can tell which unit will read the biggest power increase (atleast military comparisons between civs)... Give you a bit of insite on how they are reported as well. All units are assumed veteranAztecs:warrior 1-1 10 shields, or about 1.2 /shield costJaguar Warrior 1-1 15 shields, or about 0.8 /shield costThe jaguar warrior is actually read as 66% the strength per cost as a normal warrior (meaningfully, their 150 worth of production will read as 66% less than what 150 shields of normal warriors would show). So a warning if you ever are playing the aztecs... Your military will be read as weaker by the AI's then what the actual amount of shields invested may show and reversely, they will be more powerful than what your military advisor may suggest... BabyloniansArcher, 2-1 20 shields, 1 / shield costBowman, 2-2 20 shields, 6 per health, 24/20 = 1.2 / shield costFor a Babylonian, you're bowmen have the same ratio as the warrior... Be sure to exploit that! The AI will read this as 120% the strength of a normal archerRomansswordsmen = 1.0667 shield/costlegion = 3/3 = 9 per health, 36/30 = 1.2The Roman legion is read the same as the warrior @ 1.2 per shield costand will be read as 112.5% the strength of a normal swordsmen (editted this. Math error)Persiansswordsmen = 1.0667 shield/costimmortal = 4/2 = 10 per health. 1.3333Theres the bigger increase I was looking for ;) That would be 124%, our biggest increase so far.FrenchMusket 2-4 60 shields (FYI, swordsmen and muskets actually have the same power rating) .5333 per shieldMusketeer 2-5 60 shields is .6 per shieldLooking at about 112% of the regular musketman. This does not include the musketeers new found ability to bombard in conquests. In vanilla, this unit is 3-4 not 2-5 which is 124% the strength of the regular unit.IndiaValid for conquests only. The Indian elephant is a very unique special unit... Being one of the very few that increase hit points... Which is going to inflate it's power by quite a bit. Might also explain why India seems alot more aggressive. There is no change in vanilla/PTW, but C3C will have some alterations as it receives a bonus point of health.knight 4/3 cost 70. 11 per health or 0.62 per shieldWar elephant 4/3 cost 70, 11 per health or .78 per shieldWorks out to 125% the strength of a normal knight. Greecespearman 0.8 per shieldHoplite 1-3 or 1 per shield.Another one that will read 125% that of it's base unit. I'm begining to think this formula was used when they designed UU's.Russia Cav 6-3, 80 shields. .75 per shieldCossack 6-4 80 shields = .80It will read as 107% that of a normal Cav... I also beleive thats the shortest increase in the game isn't it?Japaneseknight we've already got at 0.62 per shieldsamurai is 4/4.. about .0686110% that of a normal knight______________________________________________________________________________The others? There are a few that this comparison won't make a difference... Since movement is ignored in power calculations. The biggest increase in power will be here, but since other 1 movement units read the same power, it's a silly comparison. Bombard and ship increases go here too as they don't make much sense.Germany, China, and the Zulu all recieve a bonus to movement therfore their power reading will not be altered by the UU. America's UU I have no clue how to try calculating that.EgyptAnother one of my favorites ;)Chariot = 1/1 cost of 20. Looking at about 0.6 per shield cost, being one of the lowest read units I've seen.War Chariot = 2/1 cost of 20. strength of 20 cost of 20... 1 per shield cost.Egyptian War Chariots are read as 166% stronger than a regular chariot (didn't see that coming). Admittadely this doesn't mean much as a war chariot simply reads the same as an archer.IroquiosHorsemen 2-1 30 shields, .666 per shieldMounted Brave 3-1, 30 shields. about .9333 per shieldLooking at about 140% stronger than the regular horsemen. Unfortunately, the swordsmen for the same cost reads stronger than the horseman anyway. I'd be really wary of an Iroquis with horses reading the same strength as you with Swordsmen... If they are even strength with you, odds are they have more braves than you have swordsmen.

Patch Problem

I wanna download the conquests patch (v1.22)off civ3.com so it is compatible with other civvers for a PBEM, but it does not work, and it says file not found.  what can i do?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sync Error

My friend and I keep getting the sync error after we generate our first turn when playing Conquests we do not have this problem with play the world. It has calculation flaws and shows the net at 1/10 of its actual value. But it is handy way to do the math.In any case, if you run the modern armor (regular) attacking a veteran spearman in a city, the modern armor wins 99% of the time- but that still leaves a distinct finite chance of the spearman winning. Try playing with it. One thing to watch out for is that the final result (net) does not result from the 1-0, 0-1 values but is the sum of all the possible outcomes. Note the counter intuitive result for warrior attacking warrior. The superior defensive strength is more than offset by the "first strike" ability of the attacker. Try going from one hit point to two to three hit points.

Playing from others save games

I started a Thread in the member saved games/scenarios board in an attempt to see some other play styles and hopefully improve my own. If anyone knows the answers, I'd be pleased to hear about them.First, anyone know why the nonplayer civs are nonplayer? In some of the conquests they are too weak or too strong to be worth playing. But the only civ in this game to show any sign of weakness was the Magyars, and they were being squeezed between two great powers. The Celts and Castille held their own and Poland put up a real fight before I finally conquered it. And Bulgaria was one of the great powers the Magyars were up against. (I was the other; the Byzantines also qualified this time. What a weird Europe.)Second, it looks as though there were no major wars in all of western Europe. Norway or Sweden took a Celtic city, and Castille took a Cordoban one; other than that, apparently the west was a very peaceful place. Only three major wars started without me--the Byzantine Crusade against the Abbasids, the Fatimid dismemberment of the weakened Abbasids, and two-thirds of Europe against the Turks after they attacked the supposedly weakened Byzantines (who were kicking butt even before the rest of us joined in). Is that normal for the Middle Ages, or was it just a quirk of my game? Or was it because I was playing the Rus, and therefore the major action happened in my corner?

Another patch after 1.22

I heard some unconfirmed rumors about one patch for Civ3:Conquests being developed. Now I recently bought the Conquest expansion pack and wanted to add these same units, sadly things aren't quite as straight forward anymore.Forexample I used to simply create a new "Mercenary" unit (based on the legionary unit) in the Civmod.bic file by entering it's stats chosing an icon etc. Then I would copy the Legonary directory (from the Art dir) and rename it "Mercenary" and also rename the .ini file therein "mercenary.ini".This aproach was quite simple and worked fine. However when I tried to do the same with Conquest (use conquest.bic instead of civmod.bic) the game posts The following error message as soon as the new unit becomes available:"Missing entry in text\PediaIcons.txt:ANIMNAME_"After which it crashes. I have tried to enter the nessecary lines to the PediaIcons.txt file however the same error keeps poping up.Is there anyone out there who can tell me how I can create new units for the Conquest expansion?

Confusion in the Middle Ages

I'm trying out my first Conquest, trying to get the hang of the new mode of play.I'm playing the Rus in the Middle Ages....I thought it would be fun to steal the relics and take them back myself. The trouble is, it seems as though tech advance is really, really slow. So far I have Horseback Riding, Viking Tradition, and nothing else. (Since I'm inland, I thought I would pass on the shipbuilding for the moment.) Is there something I'm not seeing? Time is passing swiftly; I've been playing for forty-odd turns and it seems little has happened except for some expansion. Is that normal?

my game crashes-please help

my game crashes when I try to select certain civs, I think all in the Greek/Roman chain. This occurs in the starting screen where you pick your civ. Also if I just avoid them when they try and talk to me during the game it also freezes. This is particularly frustrating because I cant play any of the early conquests. It may be because I downloaded several game mods and stuff, I know little about computers so I'm not sure what to do. Please help me if you can. P.S. on a unrelated note do you ever get attacked by civs that aren't on your continent/island. For example I just play the wwii scenerio as the Japenese and the americans never even tried to attack me except for some minor bombing and ship attacks. This was on demigod. I also never get attacked in the real game either if i'm on a different land then my enemy

I redid history forever!

I was playing on the game scenario of " the begging of the Roman Empire" and I was Persia and In 8 hours 15 min. and 32 seconds I hade totaly conquerd both Greece and Carthage with my Immortals. :p

4 Leaders in 3 turns!

Hi! I never got the Americas to fight each other so I went over there with numerous calvary armies and took them out peicemeal. At one point I got two millitary leaders in one turn, and one on each of the two following turns. Wow!In the end I had just Japan and Oceania to fight and I nuked them till they had no soldiers left, heh heh heh :) I won the game with a leftover swordsman. I thought that was ironic :p

So close yet so far!

GahhH! Another post from me. But this time I REALLY have a problem!I am building Leonardo's workshop and so is everyone else. I am also building the Knight's Templar. BUT! I realize when i finish LW first, then another civ will switch their production to KnT and get it when I am 3 turns away from getting it myself. SO to get both I STOP production of LW, ie I click on all the city's diamonds until only agricultural non shield ones are active. Now LW will be finished in 5 turns. Perfect, I should be able to complete both at same time: HOORAY!B  But NO. In between turns all the city's diamonds re-become active and force completion of LW. WHY?!?!?! What do I do to prevent those squares from becoming inactive?

Treasure units- how to move them?

In the Age of Discovery scenario, there are Treasure units generated by the cities in the New World. Ie, in one turn suddenly every civ will have every tech any othe civ had, and you will be left 5 techs behind?I go crazy getting goody huts, and cheat by saving and restarting just before I grap the hut (this usually takes 12 to 30 tries). If I am lucky I get mysticism or writing and if nobody has it and I know enough people I can trade it to each civ for something different. But short of cheating, I get left ages behind! I have observed a few things so far and I'm curious to hear what others think about this.1. If I set up a military alliance against Carthage with Macedonia, they will spend a ton of effort on fighting in Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica (Nicias is rolling over in his grave). This also works with the Persians. Its very helpful to see my 3 largest rivals fighting over that island, as it saps their strength away from other fronts. 2. I max research until I reach Republic. This gives me the best legion and allows Republic gov, where I can rush buy units for the front. Once I hit this, I turn research way down, and am making hundreds of gold per turn. 3. Conquering Carthiginian cities in Spain allows me to keep my cities in Souther Gaul safe and gives me a second front to attack North Africa. The AI can't seem to effectively defend against invasions from opposite directions, at least in this scenario. Since each front features one of my armies, I can kill his units with almost no unit loss.4. It remains to be seen whether I will have enough turns after defeating Carthage to make significant inroads in Greece and Asia, I may have to consider multifront war to capture the required territory and pop.Thoughts?
