It sure would be neat to know what it is the Jerries are carrying on about just before I blast them to smithereens. They jabber on and on, all through the whole game. Probably between 10 and 20 different phrases that they use repeatedly. Maybe more.

I wonder if there might be a site somewhere out there that has all these lines translated into English? Or do any of you guys know German and wanna translate it!?! :w00t:

Warhawk

Anybody else playing or played this game? I've ordered it from Amazon after reading all of the praise concerning its online and am wondering if anyone else can vouch for it. I'm also wondering if anybody could rate the buetooth headset that comes with the retail version (Jabra BT125).

Thanks in advance!
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars?

I recently got Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, a really amazing multiplayer centered FPS that seems to be sadly drowned out by news of bigger titles like Halo 3.

To put it simply, Quake Wars fixes everything that I hated about Battlefield 2. No more do small squads of soldiers hop around the map taking random capture points until the map becomes a patchwork of control.

In Quake Wars there are 2 sides in each map, an attacker and a defender. The attacker must complete several objectives in order, while the defender must stop the attacker. This results in clear cut frontlines as the attackers attempt to overhwelm the defenders who fight tooth and nail to hold on.

The objectives themselves are also much more interesting than bland "capture this control point". Many of them can only be completed by certain type of soldiers. For example, engineers might have to fix a bridge to complete one objective while in another Covert Ops agents might have to hack a computer database.

Quake Wars also introduces the concept of deployables. Most classes in the game can choose to deploy a construct to the battlefield, the exact contruct varying by class. For example, the Field Ops class can deploy an artillery peice and then call down artillery fire on a certain position. Engineers can deploy defensive turrets to defend an area for people or vehicles.

In the end all of this comes together to create a game which really truly feels team-centered. In Battlefield 2, too often I felt like I was a lone wolf roaming through the battlefield just shooting people. In Quake Wars, even if I'm not a shooter I feel like I can make a difference, be it from calling down support fire onto an enemy tank, or hacking a turret allowing troops to stream past unharmed.

Halo 3

For me the Halo series reignited my passion for FPS style games. When i got an Xbow for Kingdom under Fire (great game) i got Halo because i was told it was the best game on the Xbox. I didnt play it for ages because i really wasnt into FPS, so it was a couple of months before i got to play it. Needless to say i was hooked and promtly bought Halo 2 upon release. Now Halo 3 is coming out here on the 26th of Sept and i really cannot wait to sit up all night playing it. Roll on the 26th.

25th for the US. not fair! but its only a day really and when you consider time zones not even a full day. :hehe:

Star Wars BattleFront 2! But when playing the game at chapter "we've got
hostiles" the game sucks. If I want to take the elevator to the "surface
access" my health suddenly drops down as the game is loading the next
sequence. So I always stay blocked in the elevator. How can I solve this
problem?

Answer #1:
Word from the boss says this is the "#1 question we get emailed about"
so I thought I'd better address it first this week! The fact of the matter
is… there is no official solution to this problem! But fear not, for
I have done a little digging and come up with a couple of sneaky
workarounds from the community and my own bag of tricks 'n' tricks.

This seems to be a problem with the actual Half-Life game engine
itself, primarily the lift entity. With this being a problem presumably
deep within the HL1 code base, fixing it could be tricky.

On doing a crawl through a good few forum archives, it seems scores of
people are having this problem at this exact same place, but since Valve
are pressing on with their 'newer' line of products, they simply don't
have time to go back and fix 6 year old software. A few users said that
if you jump straight upwards the second the game loads in, this can
'unstick' the player from the floor.
Many players will be adverse to this method, as it involves cheating
your way past, shattering the 'realistic environment' that the Half-Life
1 engine provides. But hey, when push comes to shove!
Before loading up the level, hit the console key (`) and type in
"sv_cheats 1" followed by "developer 1".
Load the lift level.
When in the game and yet again finding yourself stuck, just go back
into the console and type "NOCLIP", with this you'll be able to fly
up the lift shaft and find yourself back on solid ground. Remember
to turn it back off so you can 'immerse' yourself in the game once
more
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

For those Halo junkies

A bit of entertainment... Red vs. Blue Season 4

Roadkill's Game Reviews

-The sequel to Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam has been out for some time now and with an expansion pack out and one in the works I thought it was time to review the game.

-Battlefield 2 is based on the same thing as it's prequels but this time it's in a modern timeframe. The game focuses on multiplayer gaming but also features singleplayer. This review will focus on the multiplayer aspect.

-The game features three sides(USA, MEC and China), 12 maps and 7 character classes(Assault, Sniper, Special Ops, Engineer, Medic, Support and Anti-Tank). There are also over 30 vehicles on land, sea and air to control. You can play with up to 64 players on one map.

-Not much has changes since 1942 but there are some new features that make the game much more appealing, especially on squad level. The Squad system makes for easy management of soldiers and the VoIP(Voice over IP) enables people to communicate more efficiently. The game has been tweaked for optimum teamwork and that's what makes the Battlefield franchise different from other FPS games(With the exception of the Rainbow Six franchise).

-Another new feature is the "Commander". In all games you can apply for the commander position which gives you numerous abilities such as atrillery strikes, UAVs, Supply drops and a more detailed map. The Commander position is available to anyone but is not a favorite as it means you will not be as involved in the game as the rest of the people. piloting aircrafts is very difficult when you're deciding where to use the artillery and UAV and often results in a crash;). However, the commander is often a crucial to victory as I've personally experienced alot. If your side does not have a commander it stands a poor chance of winning.

-The seven classes in the game are all useful to the game, though some more than others. (The below classes are USMC. Some equipment is different when playing MEC or China)

-The Assault class(Basic Soldier) is well armored and has alot of short to medium range weaponry and is ideal for defense against a mass of infantry or a mass attack. He uses an M16A2/M203(Alternative AG3/M40) main weapon and has a M9 Beretta sidearm, as well as smoke grenades.

-The Special Ops class is a behind enemy lines soldier, good for taking out enemy installations. Ecuipped with a M4A1 SOPMOD Carbine(Alternative G36C) main weapon and an M9 Silenced Beretta sidearm, as well as C4 explosive Charges and Hand Grenades. With the C4 explosives he can take out artillery, Radar installations and UAV control centres, though they can also be used against vehicles.

-The Sniper class is a recon unit as well as anti-personell. He is lightly armored but has alot of support items. He is equipped with the M24 Sniper Rifle(Alternative M95 Barrett) main weapon and M9 Silenced Beretta, as well as Hand Grenades and Claymore anti-personell mines. With his long range he can inform the commander of enemy activity and the claymore mines are ideal for proximity defense.

-The Support class(Heavy Infantry) is well armored and can resupply friendly soldiers with ammunition. He is best for defense and attack support. He is equipped with the M249 SAW Machine Gun(Alternative PK Machine Gun) and M9 Beretta sidearm, as well as Hand Grenades and Ammunition Packs.

-The Engineer class is a defense specialist and repair unit. He can repair vehicles in the field and lay mines for perimeter defense. He is equipped with the Remington 11-87 Shotgun(Alternative Jackhammer Shotgun) and M9 Beretta sidearm, as well as a Wrench and M6A2 Anti-tank Mines.

-The Medic is a support unit that can heal wounded soldiers in the field. He is equipped with the M16A2(Alternative SA-80) main weapon and M9 Beretta sidearm, as well as Hand Grenades, Defibrilators and Medication Packs. He is capable of assault but is best used as support or in a vehicle where he can heal all passangers.

-The Anti-Tank class is best against ground vehicles though he can take down aircrafts if they're close enough and hovering. He is equipped with the MP5 SMG(Alternative Protecta Shotgun) and M9 sidearm, as well as the Predator Missile Launcher.

Full Listing of Classes

-The game also features persitant character growth on ranked servers where you can receive medals, ribbons and merits.

-If you want to check it out yourself you can find a demo here.

-I rank this game 8/10 due to few new features and a somwhat bugged release edition.
