CIV4 discovery

Hi everyone! I can't believe that I never knew about CIV. Stumbled on it by accident. Love watching history channel, discovery/civilization, outdoor stuff etc. Been playing all kinds of sim games since the beginning of the green screen pc's in the 80's. I can say only one thing, I am hooked beyond comparison!!!!!! At last I have a (game) history sim that won't be deleted after a couple of weeks due to boredom. Been playing CIV4 since November and just can't get enough. :D I'm still very dumb at it but learning the strategy is very enjoyable, which sets this sim apart from everything else I know and own!

I play Civilization from the CivII, on fact I play just a few games (not addict) and Civ is my favorite !
Very interested by the history of my country (I live in the Languedoc, South of France) at the Middle-Age I would like to make a mod about the Cathar Crudase ([url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathar_Crusade]what's that[/url] ?)
I started a map yesterday, and I realise that it won't be easy and a mod will be necessary (I have to change name of the civs, religion, etc…)
So I registered here, to read informations. And other topics (I saw a forum about history ? yes !) :w00t:
Maybe to ask a few questions too, but I think it will spend time to me (I don't know anything in code !)

For some reason I looking through a WOW forum and was reminded of 1BC so came you check out if you guys were still around. Guess you are been playing WOW and COD so my copies of Civ are gathering dust haven't touched them since civ4 vanilla. Hi

I am playing civ 3 and am using an apple Imac new computer. I can't activate units inside my city. In the old game I would just go into my city and click on the unit I want to activate, now I have to remove all my units from the city until I get to the one I want to activate. Is this a glitch? I have been playing for years like this. It's hard to win a war when you can only activate the last unit built. I may have to remove 10 units from the city to get down to the bamber to activate it then put all the units back intoo the city. Help!

Hi im new to theciv worl but not the strategy game world, ive played age of empires alot and id like to say ive become a tiny bit of a wizard so to speak. Civ though is totally diffrent, but in a good way and i think ill like it very much. Ive played one other sid miyers game called alpha centari if anyones ever heard of it. But from her eon out i hope to become good at civ and have a lot of fun with the game and games from here on out.

Just saying hello to everyone, just got the Civ IV never had the previous version, quite a learning to do, but am getting there, once I learn the how's to I may be able to play online...lol

Am a grandma of 3, from Canada, I do teach art on an online academy, Own a board that is graphic oriented and do and sell digital painting done the traditional way on computer. So playing games are relaxing and fun for me beside making artwork.

I'm a 'late adopter', so I bought Civ II about a year after it came out and LOVED it.

I bought Civ III a little over a year ago. It took some getting used to (and a better computer to run it on), and I'm always looking around for some new/better strategies.

Good Evening Everyone,

I was referred to this site by Black Owl who is, from what I understand, one of your more revered members (a legend in his own mind!). Black Owl felt that this would be a good site to participate in -- people of intellect and insight -- even though I have never played Civilization..... and probably never will; it's just not my bag.

In brief, I'm from Pennsylvania, am a writer by profession (technical, not creative), live on a small farm in the country, but grow only flowers in the summer and am a student of the Civil War with leanings (sentimental only) towards the South because it is the homeland of my mother and many close family members. I work for myself, never having been overly successful in working for others. While some may call it a short attention span -- I prefer to think of it as an adventurous spirit -- I have been through many careers: first as a costume designer for theater, ballet and opera, then teaching at two universities, as a counselor to people with AIDS and now as a grantwriter/fundraiser for nonprofit organizations. It gives me the time and the means to indulge my greatest passion, which is my home.

So, in brief, that is who I am and I look forward to participating in the discussions -- and what I have seen they cover just about anything and everything.

Have never played Civ IV BTS before nor any other version of Civ. I got it for Christmas and absolutely love it. I am not very successful yet, but there is a lot to learn. I'm trying to learn the city screen better so I know by looking at it, what to do next to help each city. Any hints would be appreciated...just one more turn! :)

Ive bee n a civ fan fro mthe beginning but have mostly played civ 3 the last couple years/ At first I wasnt that thrilled with civ 4 , I couldnt get it to run very well . I must say they patched it nice and the game has grown on me. I like it even better than 3 tho I was dissapointed that they took so many units out of original game . Glad to see them put some back in bts heh. anyway awesomely addictive game I never get enough sleep anymore and when Im at work I think about my next move. i just found out that forum that gather so much civ fans.

let me introduce myself.
i'm french and 25 years old,
i play civ since the first opus. and even though i was too young to truly understand all the purposes of the game, that was my first "one more turn" experience and from that time, i never succeeded in getting rid of that addiction.

anyway, i came on civ4 recently (like 3 monthes ago) wich is quite late for a fan like i am. some real life matters kept me away from videogames release news.

However, it was quite noticeable to begin on a 100% working game, with all the updates ready. and with BTS.

The transition from my old civ3 experiences to that brand new civ4 with that many new concepts is in progress, and that forum is a precious help.

i'll keep roaming around in help and strategy topics and maybe i'll come to load your next GOTM, to see if i'm used to civ4 or not.

anyway, nice forum, nice community.

Hello everyone!

Hey peeps! Online I usually go by the name Wei, Weig, or Weigraas so w/e tickles ya. I just turned 30 in September, live in Hicksville, Ohio, have a gf and 2 kids (5yr daughter and 16mo. son). I like most RPG style games on PC, console, and used to be a Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition nerd :D. Like lots of other action, racing, and fighting games as well.

Wandering around looking for help via Google search I find Civ 3: Fansites. Finally click on this one and seems to have a nice looking layout and plenty of threads. Saw a couple questions I myself had and some other interesting links I have yet to check out. Also the background color is so very close to the Civ3 box, just w/o Xerxes and all the military personel $$$.

Mainly play MMOs such as Everquest (which I finally stopped playing after around 7yrs off and on), World of Warcraft (at least another year of playing left there as I've only just started), Conquer (not too bad for a free online Diablo style game), and Xbox 360 games whenever we keep the gold membership active lol.

Not much of a history buff but played Civ1 in 92' on mother's PC and was addicted till got my own place and PC several years later and couldn't run the game as PC was way too fast >.< Found Civ3 couple years ago at a Dollar General for $6, couldn't pass that up! Sadly it has some bugs that I'd hoped would be quick ez fixes as it's around 6yrs old now. Finding these fixes that apply to basic Civ3 and not the expansion versions is the real trick lol.

At any rate, glad to be here and spam ur screens w/ my ridiculously long ramblings of a makeshift intro! =o)
