I think he was more like refering to our tendency to exagerate the unknown, & once that gets set, it clouds ur judgemnt as to what is actually present.

Men worry about food, clothing, shelter on the most basic level. When they have that they worry about gaining material wealth, hot women, etc. Material gains that they can see, feel, etc. I would agree though on things like respect being craved.

Spiritual teachers focus on things you can't see and to some extent, have you shun the cravings for what you can see.

that weren't Julius Ceasar ... it was Cesare Cardini ... a common mistake . ;)

The actual Julius quote was to Vercingetorix, at dinner, just before Alesia, "Would you care to share some of Ceasar's Salad." :D
