MAC Image Loading

I can load images such as avatars easily from my MAC if there is a "Choose file" button or two. But in the post creation window there are none. Just the "load Image" button. Which complicates things a lot. Since the MAC immediatly asks for the full and complete URL.

My suggestion would be to have the "Choose file" buttons added to the post creation menu as they exist in the avatar image selection. I don't know if this would be a simple quick-fix or not. I'm hoping, yes.:unsure:

Democracy Game

Hi All!I know this looks a bit long-winded but I would like to ask you to bear with me - this might get fun.I've been checking out some of the other Civ fansites lately and came across something very interesting on [URL=http://www.apolyton.com]Apolyton[/URL]. They're running a so-called "Democracy Game". The essence of this is, that the whole site runs a single Civ in a democratic fashion, ie. the members elect officials to play the game and make decisions, while important problems and plans will be presented to the members as a poll. I figured it might be fun to run a game like that here. Of course, for such projects, the most important thing you need is a large group of people with enought time on their hands to keep the game running. The great benefit of a Democracy game in Civ3 is, that you elect a small group of people to run the civ on a day-to-day basis, and only bother the plebs with important decisions. The game opens up endless opportunities for creative minds to jump in and go beyond voting, even if they don't get elected for positions they can form parties to stir up the populace and influence polls, or even force new elections etc. Anyway, to get an idea of what a Democracy Game looks like I suggest you check out Apolyton. I'll give out a bit more of a systematic outline below.-- MM

MAybe we can have an official MMORPG for members of the 1BC. Something cheap and free that is sort of like Runescape, like we replicate our game as a playable world from an individual's view.
This could also bring profits to the makers of this wonderful website.

Are we losing Members?

I was looking around some of the older threads and some newer ones and i see alot of last seen: Bla bla, bla bla, 2005. Even some of the more active ones that were on when i first started coming here.i hv noticed that are only 5 or 6 people that come on, on a regular basis. Even Kring isnt on anymore, i thought he would die on this site, because he was on it so much. But now i hardly see any newer members come on more than 5 times. Some people i hvnt seen on is portugal, ness, kring of course, bismark, and some others. So i was wondering where is everyone going? i thought with civ4 coming out that this place would get a jump start, but it seems to only hv slowed it down. So is this place dieing? You tell me.

I am sitting here examining the forum a bit to see if I notice ideas that would make it easier to use. Here are some ideas I have not in any order.

I notice that when you do a member search it just shows you statistics and a profile. What if it alos showed their last weeks of posts or perhaps hot topics they are posted in. Perhaps you could show how many topics they started that became hot topics. Perhaps you could give "badges" which in a way would be kinda like bragging rights. In example If someone with say under 10 posts has a question and someone over 100 posts answers their question with satisfaction give them a "noobhelper" badge.

If someone has maybe 5 threads that turn into hot topics give them"too hot" badge. I dont know it may seem corny but more people might like that idea and perhaps my ideas will help gain more members. I already have my wife and my friend about to sign up becausew I told them about game of the month. Im not sure if this is an option because I didnt explore the email settings to much but you should be able to track posts of up to 10 friends. Your email should be the focal point of the forum where it would display the last month of topics you started as well as posts you made that have gotten responses. I know I personally have had boards I posted in where I forgot to check to see if anyone replied simply because I couldnt remember the name of the thread where I posted last. I have more great ideas and will probably post more later but right now my wife is makeing me mad.

A small name change

I would propose that Civ III Discussion be renamed to the Civ III Underground. Why? Because it seems that those of us who don't like cIV and are sticking with civ III are indeed becoming a sort of underground system among civvers. It's just a flavor change, and shouldn't effect anything really. Just aesthetics. :)

I know it's just one more tedious thing to add to a mountain of other tedious suggestions but could we make the "Post added successfully" notice a different color than red? I keep having to check to make sure something didn't go wrong. If there is a problem then yes it should be red but if not, why not have it be blue or green or something. Anyway it's not a big thing so if I never see any change I'm not going to leave the site or anything. Thanks for all you are doing.

Home page?

Any chance of a home page similar to the old setup coming about? I liked having a list of recent topics that pushed old ones out. It made the site feel more homey in my opinion. I liked seeing all the new threads on one page. I would assume it should be relatively easy with all the rss feeds all over the place. Then again, I haven't seen Sean around much lately so he's probably busy. I think that would be a nice touch.

-I have been thinking somewhat once more and as usual an idea popped out. It's nothing revolutionary by any means but I think it would be a nice feature for any forum.

-Derailing. We've all been there, you have a discussion, then someone uses something as an example and you wind up discussing something in the example instead. The sad thing is that many of these derailing discussions are actually quite interesting and that's where my idea comes in. If you could reply to a post without replying to the main thread you would prevent derailing and have many more interesting discussions going on.

IF you think about it and it's not TOO much trouble, could you tweak it to where the cursor goes where it needs to on those screens?

On the lithium forums I frequent there is an option to 'Jump To' the last message you have read in a topic when you click the link. Do you think this could be one of those 'suggestions' we make to the creators for a future release?

Automatic Email Notifications of Forum Activity

A user could create a list of keywords within their profile that would trigger an email notification that their word(s) have been used within the body of a forum post.
A couple of uses for this ability could include:
For the general member this could allow us to automatically monitor the forums for a reference to ourselves.
Or for the admins this could help them to monitor the forums for words that may not be appropriate.

I keep finding options on this web site that does not work using the Firefox browser but they work perfectly using IE. So I was thinking it may be a nice thing to do to let users know on the home page that this site has been designed for IE and some options may not be available to users of other browsers. A small one line text blurb somewhere on the home page would be nice. But if Sean wanted to be fancy with it he could have the site check the browser used and add the warning when necessary.

So I guess I'll have to blow the dust off of IE, at least for 1BC.

Viewing Threads In Which One is Already Participating

The old site had a clicker at the top in the page with list of all threads that allowed one to view all threads in which one was already participating. You could select all, those with posts during the last 30 days, last 15, last 2, 1, etc.

I cannot find this option in the new site. Was this left off intentionally?

I thought it was an excellent tool, and made constant use of it, and I think a lot of other folks did too.

Hexadecimal Color Codes

I've been really enjoying the new layout and I have been making an effort to explore all the customization options, sometimes to Sean's disapproval ;).
Anyway, I was wondering if there was a way to provide a basic color chart/table/palette (whatever) in the message editing toolbar so that it could give users quick and simple access to the hexadecimal color codes without needing to look up a hexadecimal color code chart somewhere else. The chart wouldn't need to contain more than a handful of standard colors; [color="#FF0000"]red[/color],[color="#0000FF"]blue[/color],[color="#00FF00"]green[/color],black,and such. I could see this as a great time saver for slightly lazy people like myself or for those who don't even know what hexadecimal is anyway.

Quote Bug?

Hey Sean, I think I found a small bug with the quote code. It seems if there are extra (returns) in the text being quoted, it won't "box" the quote and the quote tags are just text.

Spellcheck bug

Well when i try to use the spell check most of the time it acts funny. It gives me a word that is spelled wrong but on the spell checker part it puts the words inbetween 2 parts of that words or parts of words before and after it. for example if i wrote "I eat purplle bananas" the spell check would give me something like "pur[b]purplle[/b]anas" as the word that was spelled wrong. I have no idea why it would do that but it makes me wary to use the spell check as i dont know how it could fix my problems if it cant even write the mispelled words right.

Badges for posting count

I would like to see the badges back for the number of posts instead of that anonymous bar thingy. First we lose the need to post 300 posts before having a personal avatar. Now we don't even get any badges. It's little things like this that keep some people coming back. Read the thread I'm impressed on 1BC DGame.:unsure:

Who's On

-Is there any way of screening who you'll see on the list? There's about 10 non-registered users on the list at all times and that makes it hard to see what members are on, especially when the list spans over three pages. I know you can just go to the bottom of the homepage and check that list but I like the more informative Who's On list. Is there any way to do this or is there any way you could make this possible?

Logging in

I find myself jumping back and forth between 1BC and 1BC DGame.

When I do this 1BC seems to automatically log me out because when I come back to it I have to log in again. When I have to type in my user name and password every time it gets a bit tedious.

Can it be set up to remember our passwords like before?:)

Also why does it keep bumping me off? Is this happening to everyone else or is it a problem that only I am experiencing?

Just some thoughts on email alerts:

Could we have the email tell us which topic the post has been added to?

I'm assuming that it would take a bit of work to get the actual post content back into the email? (like the old ones)

I noticed a (picky) error with the text. It should say "a topic you're subscribed to" not "a topic your subscribed to" on the first line.

May I suggest having a Log-In link at the top somewhere. And where it shows that you're signed in? When I 1ST pull up the site, I can't tell if I'm signed in or not until I scroll to the bottom and that's where I click the Log-in link.Just a convenience. Nothing major.Thanks!

When I look at the settlers table I see a huge crowd of conscripts, however it is hard to see them as often as the statistics would indicate. I would cautiously estimate that over 90% of them are idle users, who made a few posts over two years ago and since then have nothing in common with this site. Most probably they neither remember thier nick, nor password and have no intension to post here any more. Many forums kill inactive users, maybe it's not such a bad idea. My humble suggestion is to remove all conscripts, who haven't posted for longer than a year or maybe create a special list for them called "idlers" to give a better overview about who is participating in discussions here. However I would certainly oppose agains removing higher than conscript rank members, who did have some input to the life of this board.

I have a problem with this site.whenever i try to see a profile it zips me back to the main screen and also when i try to open a chat window it gives an error saying you have to enter a username before entering chat even though i am logged in.I have tried enabling cookies but to no use.please help

Is there any way to go back from My.1BigCommunity, other than clicking "back" in your browser? Especially when you have visited all those subjects on the left side of the screen, you have to click "back" many times. If there is not another way to go back, it is perhaps an idea to include a button with which you can instantly go back to 1bigcommunity.

Site Policy & Procedures for Posting .biq files

Hi guys, in the past couple of days I've posted a couple of .sav files in the "Members Save Games and Scenarios" section. I wanted to also post the .biq files so anyone interested could mess with the files in their editor, but I cannot post these files.Is this against site policy, or is there a counter that keeps track of how many files you post and I've surpassed my limit?
