Not strictly photo's but who cares? (until we get the refurbishment done) Whilst doing a bit of computer housekeeping I came across an old photobucket account that was, amazingly, still active after many years. Here I found some stuff I did for another (now defunct) Civ site. Why sheep? I have absolutely no idea, but I found it funny.

If anyone wants more, I can dig up some other issues of "Infamy" for a small subscription of $100 a month. Yeah, I know it's more expensive than a New Religion, but in the end that made me no money whatsoever (even the zombies had to be returned) so I've got to try something new (or, um, old, depending on your point of view) so if I can get an income by rehashing some old posts why the hell not? It obviously went up to issue 5, maybe beyond??

Brazil no Mississippi

This is not a very boring summer in the Mississippi Delta. When I decided to move down here, I did not have high expectations....

But now, through work, an important connection made to a Swedish research group that might well lead to a European post-doc, and also through work, introduction to some fabulous young Brazilian interns that are making this a most memorable summer indeed.

Needless to say, it has been a much better experience in the Mississippi Delta than I could have ever imagined!

Utah trip

The fam and I took an extended weekend trip this last weekend to sites in Utah. We drove down to St. George and started off with Zion's National Park:

Boulders on the canyon floor like this are everywhere. Considering where they likely came from is a bit scary.

The hike up to the Emerald Pools but we only went this far due to time constraints.

Weeping Rock. The rock at Zions is very porus so it soaks up water which slowly decends through the rock until it comes across a denser rock. When it does, it drips out the side like this place. The water here was tested to be 12,000 years old!

There's a hike to the top of this which has sheer drop offs. The last 1/2 mile to the summit takes you across a narrow "fin" with sheer 1000 foot drops on either side.

Fantastic place. I'd recomend Zions to anyone. I think I could have spent about a week just doing some of the trails and camping there. Almost magical.

First one is from his first haircut at 5 months and 2 days. This was taken at hair salon and not my homemade studio. He has a bit of flathead and has to wear a helmet, but the hair was too long (already in his eyes) so we got it cut.

You have got to love this.. I took this photo today (along with the others on black) He is 5 months and 5 days old.. He is standing by resting his hands o the briefcase. I am not holding him. I'm 3 feet away taking the picture! Amazing! In 4 years as a photographer I have never seen a kid this age do this!

Tornado Season '09

This is a thread where I will upload pics/vids of any tornadic/severe thunderstorm of this year. Anyone is free to add their own.

I'll begin with last night, 2-10. The first storm of the season. A pretty severe T-storm that spawned several F1's in North Texas but also produced deadly tornado's in Oklahoma. By my standards, this was a fairly weak storm that was fast moving with lots of rain. I was able to snap some pics before the rain, hail and 60mph winds moved in.

New Rescue

Nick and I went to a feed store today to buy a large amount of bird seed. We walked out with the most rediculous looking bird you've ever seen. I am too soft for my own good. lol We took her to the vet today and she has a clean bill of health. All we know about her is that someone dropped her off, devoid of feathers, starving to death, and full of mites. She is 12 years old and from Oklahoma. WE named her Alexa, because she is an Alexandrine Parakeet from SE Asia. Yes, she is named after Alexander the great. ;)

Well, Nick and I drove 75 miles today to pick up these little bundles of joy, but it was well worth it. They are so sweet and cuddly and they love to sit on your shoulder while you're at the computer and take showers with you! The green one is a Quaker/Monk Parrot and the yellow one (parakeet) we call Mini-me because he sticks to the Quaker like glue. The Quaker isn't talking yet but we are being extra cautious about what we say around it. :D The lady that had these guys were getting rid of them because they were "really really noisy". The funny part is, they haven't peeped since we brought them home. We decided to name the parakeet Sunshine and the Quaker Clover (because it's green). We don't now for sure what their sex is.

So Nick and I went to the nursery yesterday because I love plants, flowers, garden's, etc. Since we've moved into our new house I've been collecting misc plants. This winter Nick promised to build me a raised garden so I can plant food. Anywho, I saw that the nursery had a selection of bug eating, fly chewing, nat swallowing, pitcher plants. Of course, I had to have one. For some reason my neighbor likes to put manure on his lawn so we have lots of flies. Plus, do some reading on these plants, They are so kool! Enjoy. Was goofing around at 2am when my dog and wife were asleep and woke up the little fella to get a macro shot of his face. I decided to focus on his eye, shoot off-center, and use it as a wallpaper for my desktop.

Well, this is the 2nd one we found. I have to say, she was larger than I thought they got. Also, found a brown recluse but it was dead. The snakes didn't creep me out as much as these little bastids. I officially have the creeps. OMG! I feel something on my back! :crazy:

Found this in my yard today...Think it's a western cotton mouth. He didn't have a tail though...I believe it was about 2-3 feet long.

Float wave

Here in Utah, we have local parades as we approach the 4th of July and the church I go to entered one. The sphere I was under was the wave on the boat. It's made from 2 large blocks of styrofoam. The general design (of the wave) was mine and I did all of the carving though the person with whom I was working on it with definitely had a lot of input. She and I probably did an equal amount of spray painting. From the time the materials were delivered we had about 2 weeks to get it done. It could have probably been a bit better if not for the crammed time frame.

The Studio

It was a seventy year old chicken coop that was falling apart and vermin chewed. Wish I had thought to get earlier pics. The large windows are Lexan plastic. Hugely expensive!

Outside, I'm installing a water feature. Waterfalls, small streams, and fish ponds. I love landscaping!
