I was thinking, since these things can take a while to get going, why don't we start recruiting for another 1BC Diplomacy game?

Some things that we could consider:

Ensuring players have a different nation to last time - in BOUNCED you can enter nation preferences when signing in, if that is enabled.

Ensuring that the correct people sign up - I believe in BOUNCED you can invite specific users?

I'll put my name down now, and BOUNCED name in brackets, but we can update this post as people express interest.

As Jerm said at the start of the D5 thread: you don't have to have any experience in the game but realise it will take some commitment. Don't worry about re-asking a question, we're not facists here;). So..... Shoot!

(Any question posted before February 27th 2006 may be erronenous as BOUNCED was not used at that time)
------------------------------------------
jerm: I'll probably steer away from using abreviations. I take it that small spelling mistakes will be allowed in rare cases?
-If you write down the entire name of a province and misspell "Burgundy" into "Bugrundy" that's ok. If you misspell "Burgundy" into "Constantinople" you should get a doctors appointment as soon as possible.......

-If you by mistake write the name of another province(Not misspelling) the name that is written will be the one used no matter how absurd and no matter how much you complain to the judge. It's a big part of the game wether the player writes his orders correctly. A massive assault that might end the game might go to hell due to a wrongly written order and that might save the day for someone. The burden is solely upon he who misspells. No order once sent to the judge can be changed, it would be like watching Hitler running to the east front to correct a misspelled order....

------------------------------------------
jbfballrb: i think i will. it looks cool. the smaller nations can be captured, right? (dumb question, but just to make sure...)
-There are seven nations in the game which are played and they have a few provinces onder their control in the start. The other provinces are neutral and contain no forces. The objective of the game is to destroy the other nations(Or conquer 18 star provinces). It's a bit more complicated than that, but just read up on the different things I've posted and you'll get the idea.

------------------------------------------
pesta: Okay, I'm interested and might play, just give me some time to read up about it. Would having no experience whatsoever of the game be a problem?
-You don't need any experience at all. The game is very intuitive so you'll know what's good for you and not and all you need to know is game mechanics, of which I have posted a substansial amount.

------------------------------------------
jbfballrb: you can stick me on the list, this looks real cool. but can i use the supply centers in places like Greece for armies?
-The provinces with stars are supply centers. The amount of supply centers under your control at the end of the fall turn reflects how many units you can have on the board. So, if you've gained a supply center during a year you get a new unit and if you've lost a supply center during a year you lose a unit. Basically, at the beginning of the spring turn you are to have as many units as you have supply centers under your control.

-If you check out the link to the big and colorful map in the "And here's the map" post you'll see a number of colored lines. If you take Russia for example it's the blue line in the eastern part of the map. The territory within that border is your homeland. You can only place reinforcements(Units gained at the beginning of spring) in the star provinces inside your homeland. You can yourself decide if the reinforcements are to be a land or sea unit(Of course, the sea unit must be placed in a coastal region) but if all the star provinces in your homeland are occupied by other units then you will have to wait until the next spring turn to place your forces(Provided that a star province in your homeland is available). There can be only one unit in each province, sea or land.

------------------------------------------
jerm: Hmm. I have no idea what this game is or any of the rules so count me in. Let me get this straight. It's a board game and we are playing by email? How can we play if we don't have the game?
-You can download utilities that function just as the board game does. The "War Room" is a tool for judges that is used to feed the orders from every player for the turn but it works very well as a board game substitute. It's actually a very good tool for newbies as the most frequent newbie mistake is writing your orders incorrectly. The War Room utility is programmed so that it's very difficult to write down an incorrect order.

-Now, if some of you haven't read too much yet this would be a very important point, a game turn works like this: All the players talk to the other players(You can of course choose not to talk to anyone or just to a select few) to agree upon what to do. When they are all finished discussing they write down their orders and, in this case, deliver them to the judge. The judge then executes those orders and reports back to all the players in the game.
-It would be wise to check out the "Diplomatic Pouch" to get tips and such. I have now(Yes, just now) decided to put up another post that will explain on a very basic and easily digestible way how the game is played and of the game mechanics.

------------------------------------------
jerm: Yea I did. I have been reading through the rule book and I think I understand some of the basics. I'll be sure to ask questions though. When do we start and how will the rules be modified for the web?
-Well, the rules won't be modified in any way as they are just as functional in a PBEM as when played normally. The only thing is that negotiations will span a week(For the moment, we'll see how that goes).
-I will post a list of the abbreviations used for the provinces(Will probably be those used in the "War Room" program). Check out the "Short Walkthrough" for the basics.

------------------------------------------

Diplomacy Information

The purpose of this thread is to consolidate information pertaining to the BOUNCED version of Diplomacy at 1BC.

Below is a table of contents that has links to later threads containing both game information for the 1BC BOUNCED version as well as the rules of Diplomacy consolidated into one thread.
