If I had a couple of hours to devote, I think I could make this look great. Unfortunately I'm absolutely swamped with work at the moment and I doubt I will have a couple hours for the next 2 weeks (not to mention the fact that I've got my senate duties to attend to). If it can wait (and someone nudges me in two weeks) I'll finish this thing up. It's possible though that I will have a chance in between but I'm totally swamped with work at the moment.

Darn, they're exactly the same size. I think I've figured out a way to make it work though. Unfortunately I've got to do some real work so this may have to wait a bit.

-It's not very big to start with so I'm not sure wether this border is the best one to use. I googled "celtic art border" in order to find this. "Celtic art" also yields some nice results.

EDIT: Here's another find that I liked, not for the flag though. Maybe some coat of arms?

-Freeceltic.com is a nice resource for these things(Though somewhat difficult to navigate).

Alright. If Rk could point me to where he got that knot pattern that would help a lot. As it is now, it's too low res for me to "easily" convert it to vectors so I can change the colors. I'll do something for the rest of it though for the moment.

I like RK's as well but it needs a little something. Jerm could you color it a bit? I'm think some yellow or red for the bird. Either green/orange/red (or yellow depending on the color of the bird) or blue for the knots.

I can tidy up Rk's as well as make the pelican bigger. I can also change the pelican colors if it's wanted.

I also favor that one, though the pelican could be a bit bigger...

Tones, yours might be a suitable war flag to display to our enemies, but I think something more... civil would be better to represent our nation to our own kind and other (presumably friendly) heads of state. ;)

Wow you guys are gifted. The second one RK posted has potential in being quite simple and distinct, even if it were reduced in size.

However, the one with the crossed musket and beer bottle is classic :P As long as there would not be technical issues with this one, I'd say it would get my vote.

And BTW, while SAS (aren't they English not Celtic!?) is suckling on their hobgoglins I reckon SEALS would be downing fifths of Tequila! ;)

Actually, if there WERE a "Celtic" special forces, what would it be? I guess the best equivalent would be the Celtic special unit?

-Here's my entry, all I had was Paint so if anyone would like to "posh it up:D" then be my guest. Or you could base a new flag around the idea. Anyway, here it is:

-This was just a rush job to give you some idea of what I was thinking, there are some size issues(Pelican is too small in relation to the flag I think, etc) and I think the middle orange line should be broader(Or the green ones thinner).

EDIT: Or perhaps something like this.

Ah, the finished item. Crossed musket and beer bottle. Also notice the subtle Celtic weave of the material. btw RK Hobgoblin is a real type of Brit beer (the sort of manly stuff the SAS drink. The wimpy SEALS would be sick):D

Sorry, Rk, I was working on changing the colors while you wrote your post and I didn't refresh when I did mine. Not a bad idea though I'm torn between a more decorational type flag and a modernesque type flag like you describe. The most notable are the 3rd and 4th selections but they're too big to post here, hence my link to google. Also check out "celtic knots" which is where I got all the knots I used for the banner in my sig as well as my avatar and the flag. If someone wants to make something, I can make it look clean like my flag above.

-Awww, now I want to play Baldur's Gate...

-How about we just narrow it down to some flag attributes, how many colors, horizontal or vertical lines, etc. How about a flag like the flag of the Bahamas:

-Maybe a smaller triangle and a thicker middle line. Colors as they are in-game, the triangle being replaced with one inscribed with celtic... thingies... And the pelican in the middle.

-Another one would be a two/three-colored flag with the left edge being a border with celtic inscription. The pelican in the middle.

Addit: BTW, great graphics Biz, though I agree on the simplicity issue. A flag should be pretty 2 dimensional. I think you may be along the right lines for the seals though. I'll post my celtic rendering of the pelican in it's basic form if anyone wants to mess with it:

I suppose, I could agree that the Flag I proposed is mainly for show.. I felt distinct color schemes with Celtic patterns in the background would serve well. Then again, as far as being able to see it on some battlefield under the shower of bullets, I'm no solder. I'm also skeptical of the text, as I feel it only clutters the flag and detracts from the distint blue/green/red. I appreciate the comments thus far. :)

Not too bad (says the lurker/nonparticipant) and I LOVE the 'approved' stamps...but the flag is a bit ...much for a flag. Unless the world you live on does not have the rules for heraldry. I think I have the old national flags somewhere...maybe I can find them...I did a lot of heraldry work for the old game.

Beautiful work...truly. Just hard to see at a distance when your troops are fighting in a haze of black-powder smoke.

Hello friends,

A couple of days ago during a chat with Mongoose, I recalled an artifact of old that I still had tucked away in my museum:

As the old geezers may remember, the majestic pelican was the symbol of the Community during the first DGame, and featured prominently on our national flag (which, alas, I have not been able to recover).

The challenge is as follows - create a flag for the Community, featuring the Pelican. A high-resolution version can be found [url=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c9/Flag_of_Syldavia.svg]here[/url]. Everyone is invited to participate and discuss designs. We can have a poll on which flag we like best, if there is no consensus.

Bonus points if you also create seals for the President, Senate and Supreme Court!
