I'll take that as yet another vote for Dunroamin. The peasants demand a name change!!!

Or maybe our second city....?:)

Using gaelic words with 'first' meanings:

Faoilteach: nm. g.v. -ich, the last fortnight of winter and the first fortnight of spring

...the tribe emerged from the long winter (figurative and literal) of their wandering and settled down to face a spring like no other, the Springtime of Civilization, called such because the first crops were planted that would move them from their nomadic existence to a settled existence to rise to be the great nation they would become.

fochann: g.v. -ainn; first shoots of corn (L.Sc. braird)

gasda: a. excellent, splendid, good, first rate

toiseach: nm. g.v. -ich; pl. -ichean, beginning, origin, source, front, van, precedency, bow of a ship : an toiseach, at first : air thoiseach, in front

tùs: nm. g.v. tùis; pl. tùis, the beginning, commencement, origin, front, van : air tùs, at first

Town:

baile nm. pl. bailtean, town, township

Any of those words...or Tus Baile or Baile Tus, depending on where the modifier goes in Gaelic

Just some thoughts.

Edit: Any of those would be cool. But I DO like Dunroamin, but that might be too cheeky, but BRILLIANT, tones

Yeah, if we desperately want to have a different name, we can always change the name of the city if enough people complain.

One vote for Dunro(a)min coming up. With our unique building being Dun it's just too good to resist...

I'm not against that personally either. I do like the Dunromin one too though. Probably going to need a vote to perhaps establish a concensus of what the people want. If the people want the standard names given, we should just stick to that then. Might just be easier too.

I can play the turn at any time if you guys can come to some sort of consensus.... personally, I agree with Scip that we should keep close to Celtic traditions, not necessarily going with the default, but let's not rule it out.

Bibracte would be the first city by default, which is a very important city in celtic/gallic history.

Me personally, I dislike anything except historically appropriate names that fit with Celtic history. In Alpha Centauri I always came up with screwball names, but for Civ I dunno, it just seems like it is an "alternate history simulation" or something so the names that they provide in the default list (else some simulacrum of similarly Celtic words) is what I'd propose.

Praps we can each come up with one city name, and the President can pick from the list as he sees fit? (And yes, he may even pick his own suggestion...)

First city name?

Our president has mentioned that he would allow the gathering community to name this place which we appear to be getting ready to settle. This, of course, won't happen unless we actually have some suggestions to vote on. Therefore, I wish to open this thread to suggestions as to what we'd like our home to be called.

One thought I had was to name the cities after prominent (active) members of our community. Even more fun may be to look up celtic translations of our names if possible and make some variation on it. Just a thought.
