I'd venture from what I saw that these numbers were tops out there, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

85 and 45 mechanized infantry and modern armors would have been quite a force to beat, though obviously anything is beatable.

My missile cruisers were pretty stout and built in Tokyo where my all of my military leaders were, Heroic Epic and Moai Statues were. I could build a missile cruiser each turn that emerged with 16 XP points. Also, there must have been some random event that gave my mechanized infantry a free +25% vs. gunpowder promotion, so it was efficient to crank out a lot of those.

In hindsight, I wish Rish communicated with me that he needed jetfighters, for example, as I had 14 with a lot of promotions each. I would have gifted them or at least sent some over to patrol if I knew he was lacking them on his front with Tones. Unfortunately for me, I had NO CLUE what was going on on that front 99% of the time.

RE: NextWar PBEM: Nuke, Rish, Scip, Tones
Did Nuke and I plan this? No, we did not. In fact, I wish we had.
Once Tones jumped into the fray, all my offense was down by Scip and I kept a lot of bombers and some defense around Tones in case he attacked, and that's it. Tones had such a massive defense in his two near cities that I found it much easier to keep adding my newly made units to the invasion of Scip. I could have stopped and withdrawn and attacked Tones, but was sure Scip would have taken his losses back if I did.

There certainly wasn't any intent to "play" my ally and I would have pulled back from Scip and focused on Tones if Rish said he was losing, but I never heard anything other than optimism that Rish could handle Tones, or tie him up at least. I actually made a pledge to Rish to be his ally for the duration of the game, before the attack from Scip on Rish, and myself on Scip, and Tones on us both. Fun times. :P

There was 1 Tones invasion of my land that had several armor units and a dreadnought (just one? don't remember) and air support, but I bombed the crap out of it and destroyed the stack the 1st turn. That was about as much of testing the waters as we had with each other other than a little bombing early on, I believe.

To be honest, I arrogantly came into the game expecting myself and Tones to be better players, just because of our usual GOTM performances, but I'm not sure that really transfers over to a PBEM.

Before the wars started, I had switched to 100% war production and pretty much maintained that through now. Would you guys be interested in sharing how many units we had left? Just for curiosity and bragging? lol.

RE: NextWar PBEM: Nuke, Rish, Scip, Tones
In the words of Rish "It seems there are two wars being waged here. He then went on to agree with my non-too-subtle postulation that both of you were lying sacks of cyborg dung and that we were both being 'played' by our 'allies!'
Your mutual disinterest in duking it out with one another only confirms what I have suspected for quite: neither one of you is as trustworthy as Corporate Insurance Lawyer!
True, to a certain extent. I am sure NC will confirm that we never, ever, had any sort of formal agreement, but yes you - Scip and rish were both "played", to be sure.

Of course we are now unlikely to know the outcome of this game as it is fairly obvious that it is in a terminal stage (unfortunately) However, it is incontravertable that NC was beating the sh** outta Mr Africanus and I wasn't doing so bad against Mr rish either.

Did Nuke and I plan this? No, we did not. In fact, I wish we had.

Frankly, we all made mistakes, but I think those who made the least mistakes came out best, just as in real life.

rish - you were in real trouble in the Middle East I reckon. In the end you had no air cover at all! However, a peace deal was pretty close - after I took another city. Did you know I had 4 Tac Nukes left? Oh and the transports? Empty.

scip - there was one crucial point where you really annoyed me diplomatically (I think the others will substantiate this) and that one message led to a tacit agreement and thus your downfall. It just goes to show how different multi-player games are!

NC - I think another game is in order.

I apologise. I sound insufferably smug, and yet there was no outright winner.

I really suspect it would have been NC in the bitter end, but these things are doomed because humans, as opposed to the AI, can see the end coming a long way hence, and throw in the towel because there is no fun in fighting a lost cause.

I guess if we end it here then rish wins, if I remember the scores correctly:w00t:

RE: NextWar PBEM: Nuke, Rish, Scip, Tones

What!? So you two aren't gonna duke it out for global domination!?! *sigh* how disappointing . . .
In the words of Rish "It seems there are two wars being waged here. One in which Tone's is attacking me, and one in which Nuke is attacking you." He then went on to agree with my non-too-subtle postulation that both of you were lying sacks of cyborg dung and that we were both being 'played' by our 'allies!'

Your mutual disinterest in duking it out with one another only confirms what I have suspected for quite: neither one of you is as trustworthy as Corporate Insurance Lawyer! :w00t:

Now having taken a sufficiently inflammatory jab at both of you for having outsmarted both of us with your duplicity and lies, let me move on to the topic of 'another' game.

I'm actually _really_ phasing down the gaming from here on. I uninstalled all my games. The only game I have installed right now is Civ4 BTS. I might even uninstall that, but honestly I don't think it is necessary. I've gone through about four phases of 'enjoying' Civ 4 since it first came out. I seriously enjoyed the basic game for a couple months after it first came out; I seriously enjoyed Warlords for a couple months after it first came out; I seriously enjoyed BTS after it first came out; I re-enjoyed BTS once (maybe twice) after letting it sit for several months. Twice probably . . . seems like I got one second wind from the History in the Making mod, and one second wind from the FFH mod.

Like I said in my Civ 5! Sneak Preview! thread, I honestly find the game very seriously flawed at this point. I could suspend disbelief for the myriad points that are dramatically lacking realism for the early stages of learning to play, but find it impossible to do so any more.
I think for someone who was a seriously good modder, and had the time and inclination, this engine COULD be used to build a majorly good cultural evolution simulation game. The key thing is that the graphics and other memory-hog demands would probably need to be way-truncated (else a VERY powerful machine would have to be used) so that really, REALLY big and detailed maps, and multi-tier map-systems could be designed.
At present, the high processing demand basically makes it impossible to mod into a really realistic and fun game without having a super-powerful machine.

RE: NextWar PBEM: Nuke, Rish, Scip, Tones

Sept 1st through now. Not bad!

I don't know about you guys, but having done this PBEM only and having done some of the group games where someone does X number of turns and hands the reigns over to someone else... I think I like that 2nd type better.

Scip and Tones, would you gentlemen be interested in such a game with me? I'd say ratchet it up to a monarch difficulty maybe? Even that Fall from Heaven mod. I think us 3 are fairly active and could rumble through a game rather quickly with a rotation of us 3. What do you guys think?

RE: NextWar PBEM: Nuke, Rish, Scip, Tones

Well I can't say I'm not disappointed; neither am I surprised however.

It seems the guys who are currently losing (i.e.being stuffed) are not averse to bowing out. Not that I would dare to suggest a link between success and, ah, enthusiasm, or the obverse.:Whistling:

However, I do appreciate that RL has precedence, and if you realise that a game is a actually a "game" then one is bound to feel less inclined to give it due attention. I'm not the least bit mad. As I told Tones, I _dislike_ when people lie in PBEMs, but it doesn't make me angry. Sure, it is a strategy that might work, but to me it is just cheap shot crap, and I personally wouldn't enjoy winning that way. We all got our own face to look at in the mirror in the mornings, and after all like you said, it is just a game! :P

RE: NextWar PBEM: Nuke, Rish, Scip, Tones

You do sound a bit more calm about it today.
That is not quite the same thing as explicitly clamining to BE someone's ally and then turning around 10 turns later and sneak attacking them. None of the rest of us have done THAT!
I don't believe I quite did the above. You guys brought it up to me and I responded with "sneaky(?)" responses like I pasted above (still have the emails). I didnt even attack you for several turns after you (Scip) declared war. Hardly a "sneak attack."

It can be quite disheartening to play against someone who takes things personally. If I continue to take Australia, will you be equally upset? If I were to continue military victories against you for the rest of the game, and you lost, would you be as angry (or angrier)?

This is hardly "fun." :doze:
