If you guys agree, we will likely continue this merging of GOTMs to future games. Please let us know if you like this idea of the merging of games and we'll likely continue it if you do. Thank you, CivMasters for creating this game! :D

The Civil War - July 2009 (Montezuma-Aztecs)
After a crisis, the Aztec civilization has split into six pieces that each want to rule. Will you reunite the Aztecs by the power of weapons or by the wisdom of words? Only time and your mind decide.

Map: Arboria
Size: Small
5 AIs, everyone is Aztec.
Speed: Normal

Highest Normalized Score with any allowed victory condition will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for July

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then email your final save (hopefully one turn just before victory) to gotm@1bcciv.com or jdm@civ-brasil.com (If you just want to compete in the CivBrasil Ladder, but not in the GotM's rank). Saves should be named as follows: [username]Jul09BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

Submissions will be accepted until July 31st!

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

1. Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
2. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
3. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
4. Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Good luck and Enjoy!!

*EDIT* Dang it! I'm having troubles uploading the screenshot and having troubles uploading the save game itself. Internet Explorer does not like this new 1BC site. :( Bear with me.

June 2009 BtS GOTM

With a little bit of irony, I present to you the June Civ4 GOTM.

This is for Beyond the Sword expansion version 3.17.
The map is Tiny and the map is Highlands Special.
Difficulty Level = Prince
Speed = Normal

Only Militaristic Victory Conditions (Domination and Conquest) are Enabled.

Your leader is:

Your starting location:

A Friendly Village Nearby

Game Conditions:

Highest Normalized Score with any allowed victory condition will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for June

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. BTS version 3.17 is required for play.
The map is huge, the speed is normal, and the difficulty level is noble.

I know what a couple of you guys are thinking. "Noble? Thats bloody easy, mate." Ah, but here's the catch. Pay attention:
YOU MUST START 3 RELIGIONS BEFORE YOU CAN ATTACK ANYONE and you must start at least 3 religions to win the GOTM. With those 2 conditions in mind, the highest normalized score will win the GOTM. If you declare war on someone before starting 3 religions, you are disqualified from our contest. If you do not found at least 3 religions before the game ends, you are disqualified from our GOTM contest.

If someone attacks you, they are fair game for your retaliation, taking their cities, making them a vassal, etc, but you are still not allowed to attack them again if you make peace, unless you have 3 religions founded. For clarification... if they attack you and during your war, they make peace for any reason (including random event, Apostic palace, etc) you must not declare war on them again unless you have founded 3 religions. Make sense?

All victory conditions are on, but NO TECH TRADING is also turned on. There are several enemy civilizations. How many? Several. Thats all I have to say about that. ;) This makes founding religions more difficult, so you have been warned.

Who is to lead your uber-religious civilization through starting 3 religions and victory? Why, its Asoka of India, of course.

Starting location:

Highest Normalized Score with ANY victory condition will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for April.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. I mentioned this earlier, thought I might bring it up again, but I wanted to gauge interest out there in a Rhye's and Fall of Civilization monthly challenge.

By this I mean a monthly game, staggered with the standard GOTM, where the goal is to complete all 3 UHV points in the quickest time possible (where applicable) and/or with the highest score possible.

For those of you unfamiliar with this Mod, it is packaged in with BtS, and is meant to simulate the Rise and Fall of Civilizations in historical settings with Roughly historical goals, such as the Roman Empire has one goal to conquer Italy, Germany, France and Britain by a certain date. Britain has a goal to have a certain number of colonies established on all the continents by a certain time, and so on and so forth. This is a fun scenario that really has helped me focus my game play on the game within the game, not losing sight of the trees when being overwhelmed by the forest, for example.

So I thought I would start off with one of the Civs that do not have very long term goals, that being Ægypt, starting on the easy difficulty level, with the following victory points in mind:

* Have more than 500 Culture in 700 BC (turn 86)
* Build the Pyramids, the Great Library, and the Great Lighthouse by 250 AD
* Have more than 5000 Culture in 450 AD

A difference between this and normal GOTM would be you could play the scenario as many times as you liked.

So if there is some good interest in this, I will make an official announcement later in the week. ;)

Sign Up for GOTM updates

Greetings all,
Anyone who wishes to receive updates about CivIV GOTMs, please post in this thread.

These updates will include pm's when the new GOTM begins and the announcement of the GOTM champ, and so forth.

All of this info will still be posted, but with a pm, you will know right away when the new GOTM is underway.

So, post here and I'll add you to the list.

Civ-brasil GOTM # 2 !!!!!!!

We have already started the game of the month of september.

All you guys are invited to participate !

This is the link where you can read an English version and pic up the file.

http://www.civ-brasil.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1648&p=23687#p23687

Before I forget: congratulations to Nuclearcow for the first place on the GOTM of August !!!

???

Where is the August GOTM....well it's now almost September...

I was hoping to maybe get a little cIV in... :(

GOTM by civ-brasil !!!!!!!!!!

ok guys, it has been tarted the first game of the month by civ-brasil in: www-civ-brasil.com.

There is an english version too.

Come in and participate !!

Here is the direct link:

http://www.civ-brasil.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1501&p=21323#p21323
Idea for GOTMs

Would it be fun to impose artificial, in-game restrictions for players that usually play at a higher difficulty?

Let's say mongoose uploads a prince game. Quite a few people still struggle with that level, so they'll have a hard time winning the game, let alone the GOTM. Those that win regularly on monarch or emperor are just going through the motions, trying to win as quickly as possible. Why not *hamper* these players? Why not say, in this game YOU can build NO cottages, or NO wonders, or you cannot use slavery, or found/ spread religions. Plenty of options to keep things interesting, and make the playing field a bit more level.

Let's say mongoose uploads a noble game. Now prince players can be asked not to build cottages, wonders, etc. Monarch/ emperor players would need even further hampering: In this game you cannot build workers, or settlers, or use ANY civics.

I would be thrilled to play weird games like that, as they'd push me to adapt, and try out new stuff. What say others to this?

June 2008 CivIV BTS Game of the Month

Game Complete:
Champion - Carlucas: New World Population - 18,684,000

Nuclearcow: New World Population - 4,525,000

anfieldrapper - New World Population: 1,217,000

Greetings all... We are going to shake things up a bit this month..

Version: 3.13

The map is Standard with 6 civs total.

Your Civ is Spain... You may not "build" gold/cash in any city build menu to help break even. Also, you must not have more than one merchant specialist in any city.

B: You cannot allow one of your cities in the Old World (or New for that matter) to be taken by either an AI civ or Barbarians. Cities that you conquer yourself also count against this.. You must hold any conquered city.

C: You must not trigger another victory condition before 1850.

If you do not meet the above criteria, your save will be disqualified.

Now, to determine the population of your cities in the New World, open the city screen and hold the cursor over the city name in the top middle of the screen:

The population will show... Add the population in all your New World cities for your score.

How's that for a change of pace?

When you get to 1850AD, add you population in the New World and post it in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (1850AD) to me. This makes it easier to determine how everyone stands and what the current standard is scorewise if I get held up in the verification of save files. Thanks.

Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.

May 2008 CivIV BTS Game of the Month

Game Closed:
Champion: Konrad von Richtmark - Score: 28,443 Victory: Diplomatic in 1865

Nuclearcow - Score: 17,564 Victory: Cultural in 1932

Dueck - Score: 13,702 Victory: Space Race in 1979

Greetings all... It was fairly simple in the beginning when there weren't any multiple GOTM champions, but lately, with more games under our belt and several multiple winners, it becomes obvious to me (the one that's working to make all these things come together;)) that we need a simpler system in place.

So... I am asking for your input on the following: We will go to a GOTM ranking system where you are ranked based on the number of GOTM's in which you have been the Champion. All GOTM (CivIII, Warlords, BTS) championships will be added together and you will receive a rank (and graphic insignia in place of the current ones) according to the number.

Now, we need to decide what names for the ranks. The two best possibilities would be either military ranks or the CivIV Difficulty Levels:

Victories

1 or 2: Settler/Corporal

3: Chieftain/Sergeant

4: Warlord/Sergeant Major

5: Noble/Lieutenant

6: Prince/Captain

7: Monarch/Major

8: Emperor/LieutenantColonel

9: Immortal/Colonel

10: Diety/BrigadierGeneral

11: SidMeier(added)/Major General

That should give you an idea. What do you guys think... and which would you choose, military or difficulty levels?

Dec. 07 GOTM - Beyond the Sword

Champion: Nuclearcow

Greetings all.. this game for the Beyond the Sword CivIV expansion...

Version: 3.13

Standard Size map with 7 Rivals

Note: This is an unrestricted leaders game...

Good Luck all...

Ode to the GOTM

I love the GOTMs so much :D

Before signing up, I was in something of a difficulty level trap. I had mastered Monarch to the extent where I won almost every game, but was getting repeatedly pummeled on Emperor to the extent where the game just weighed down on me. I even got so tired of being pummelled that I had to put Civ4 on the shelf for a while and check out Halo for some variety :w00t:

There's no question whether I'm able to win a Prince level game, but it doesn't matter, since I'm competing against humans. Now, even when a game has come to the point where there's no question of whether I will win, it doesn't devolve into a tiresome slugging match of how-many-enemies-will-I-still-have-to-conquer, but into a frantic race to win as quickly as possible, knowing that each turn counts.

Now, if you excuse me, I have a Viking Empire to lead to world conquest :)

Unofficial GOTM

Ah, I almost forgot about this after an MSN chat with Mongoose a while back...
Since this game is no longer being played, the saved game may now be downloaded and played by anyone who is still interested. I was thinking of adding a link here to my CFC signature. There don't seem to be too many straightforward, easily accessible GOTMs around anymore, so maybe there'll be some interest...

On the other hand, some of these games look like fun: Realms Beyond. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
