Yeah I'm with Zone. Don't take a lack of submissions as a lack of interest! I played it up to like 1980 or something, so I was definitely interested. But once I saw Rish had it won in like the 1800s it became obvious that I was not a contender. It would've been a waste of my time to finish it out. I'm GLAD that Rish finished his quick and posted it! Saved me from wasting another chunk of time with a tedious long-drawn out struggle! :w00t:

RE: March 2007 CivIV Warlords GOTM

Thanks mongoose, this way there's space for more of 'em... ;)

One thing that was helpful: Carthage didn't have any iron, so no Pikes, no Knights. For me it was a tactical decision. I really did have no chance of beating Rish's score as I had passed him in years and had no hope of concuring Carthage.

Zig, I hadn't realized how badly beaten Carthage was for you. Truely you 'deserve' that score then. I think you are right about timing though. If you can get the timing right of when to attack, perhaps that makes all the difference. It would seem that those who had attacked Carthage earlier (Zig and Rish), kept him in check for the later game and made it easier to "finish him".

RE: March 2007 CivIV Warlords GOTM
PS Could I have one of those merging banners that shows one month first, then the next, instead of two separate ones? It seem the AI never have to worry about such economic vs. expansion considerations. I'm struggling behind at 50-60% science with like 3 Cities while Hannibal and the Ottomans were taking off. My culture was out the roof (even had 3 flip to me), but I had no hope of keeping up in points and science because they far outpaced me in Cities early on, yet when I built a new one while land was for the taking, I had to drop science spending another 10%. :pinch: I don't understand. But I lost... Diplomatic... I had too small a population to have enough impact on the voting, although it was interesting that I was actually in the vote at all because I was the third largest in size and had the third highest score. However, I was 2nd in culture. I don't know how hannible survived with so many cities, I'd have thought his economy would have crashed. Maybe it's because he never had to support a war... anyway, he and shaka between them had about 60 to 70% of the land and population, and they were best of buddies, so it was only a matter of time.

I finished with a score of 2530 or so because it was a loss so the corrected score was the same as the game score (or whatever you want to call them). Being able to build 'em without copper was a godsend for me. I took most of their western cities, and left them with the north.

Next I went after Shaka, once I had construction, and an army of gallic warriors. He fell pretty quickly, and I made him a vassal with one island.

Then, I realized that I was behind in techs (like seriously behind), so I put my warmongering on hold for a bit to race for rifling, wihle I built a stack of longbows. Once I got rifling I upgraded all my longbows to rifles, and marched them into Korea. Korea fell fast, and they too were a vassal on an island.

Finally, I marched north to what was left of Carthage, beat themup a bit, vassalized 'em, and got the win.
