Today was my last day of school, and exams start tomorrow (english exam...:crying: - much prefer the maths and the different sciences), so I won't have the time. But don't worry, next month I'll be sure to set aside time to reclaim my title!!! :D

RE: May 2007 CivIV Warlords GOTM

Space victory in 1945 AD. Was a bit startled that the Vikings started on their ship before me, but spies soon discovered that they didn't have anywhere near the industrial capacity to compete. (Nor probably the techs to build all components.)

I really like how you can have meaningful late-game expansion. Those 4 extra cities I got were very productive very quickly. Especially Illinois, a barbarian city in the middle of forests was a welcome addition, easily outproducing my other (non-Ironworks) cities.

RE: May 2007 CivIV Warlords GOTM

I look forward to finishing this game over the weekend. Had a very s-l-o-w start due to pesky barbs; didn't really advance past the two bottlenecks, until the Aztecs' might was dwindling. Got some high production cities out there (and even beat the Russians to a quite useful resource, by one turn), now gearing up for diplomatic or space victory. Gonna be 20th century though, so it shouldn't be too hard to beat my score...

RE: May 2007 CivIV Warlords GOTM

Okay, got into the mid 1800's, one turn away from completing the Apollo project... and crash to desktop. Before that, it was taking 5 bloody minutes between turns. I'm afraid my computer just won't handle Warlords at a standard map in late game. (See why I'm concerned about BTS requirements? They're bound to increase over Warlords). I think I'll stick with Vanilla standard maps or Warlords small maps.

I hate Warlords. :(

RE: May 2007 CivIV Warlords GOTM

I'm making full use of those two bottlenecks, against barbs and Aztecs; now trying to decide if I should build my 6th city on top of the lower bottleneck (without much useful resources, or 3-4 tiles further, with resources aplenty, but *much* harder to defend...

I almost have liberalism, which hopefully helps to keep religious tension to a minimum. The UU will come in handy against any cavs, so that's something (is it?). I'm trying to get a lead techwise and get to tankies. Otherwise I will be going full turtle, and do the space thingy.

There is hope for me yet... :)

RE: May 2007 CivIV Warlords GOTM

Okay, so far, it's the mid 1600's AD and I've been lucky, I think. I'm at the bottom of the heap in score, but I seem to be in the middle of the pack as far as tech goes, and I'm managing to edge up, albeit slowly. Peter leads right now, with the Incas not too far behind, along with Churchill.

What's been interesting is reading about the warfare problems others have had. I've been very fortunate in not having to go to war with anyone. Having Peter and Monty for neighbors is NOT my preferred start. I gave in to Monty and Peter once each, and so far, they've been fairly content to leave me alone for the most part.

I must say, tho', that this start sucks majorly. No horse, ugh. (Peter and Monty have Cavalry, and all I have to oppose them are pikemen and macemen.) I do have Iron, but I doubt I'll manage to have coal and aluminum. If I do manage to get those, I have a fighting chance to get the spaceship, which is about the only way I'm gonna win this one, since I don't particularly have an overwhelming military right now.

If it wasn't for my capitol, and my northernmost city, I wouldn't have been able to keep up this far. Those two are producing the majority of commerce/science for me.

This is a tough one. Hopefully I'll be able to pull off a space or diplomatic victory, barring some miracle that gives me an edge enough to wipe out Monty or Peter rapidly and boost my science rate.

RE: May 2007 CivIV Warlords GOTM

fight on cause your game sounds like mine already bet it was those Aztecs they are what cost me my game losing 2 cities to them sucked till i got 3 back

RE: May 2007 CivIV Warlords GOTM

I'm getting creamed so I think it's time to give up. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then PM your final save (hopefully one just before victory) to me. Saves should be named as follows: [username]May2007GOTM.CivWarlordsSave (in a zip file)

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Good Luck all...

Note: The Forum software doesn't allow file extensions of the length of the Civ4 Warlords save file. For this reason, the start save is in a zip file and your submissions will need to be as well. If you are not sure how to accomplish this or how to unzip the start save, please post here and someone will help you.
