Yeah, me.
That being said, however...my game will not be worth posting...1996 right now, at war with the Greeks for the first time ever...tanks and artillery against infantry and rifles/cannon.

I WILL give myself credit for not losing. The barbarians were amazingly troublesome...

But what REALLY freakin' torqued me off was...lessee...my UU is a horse unit. Where are the horses? Yeah, way over there. Oh, coal? You want coal? NO COAL FOR YOU...AI sees it all and the Greeks threw a city 8 million miles from home to snag the nearest (relatively speaking) coal to you. Nothing new there...just worse than ever...normal Civ tickingmeoffitis. And there's nothing I like better than being beaten to wonders by 2 turns...every single time. Oh and the AI trading techs to each other for pocket lint...again nothing new.

On the bright side...I didn't lose...and will win at a time victory unless the Koreans beat me to a ship launch. My capital was also the biggest one I've ever had at like 26...four religions founded...so inother words, every one that didn't spawn at the start of the game, counting judaism that they gave me.

At least I'm working out how to run an empire. 4x the amount of military I think I need and money money money...that's all you need to remember, really. Unless you want to fight...in which case I still need to learn. Doing better, but there seems to be way more WAR in Civ IV and that is not what I tended to play the franchise for. If you can't fight, you're done, because in C-IV, peace is never the answer.

Edit: Done: Time victory. Not bad, Nero is probably about right too...Le Sigh

RE: July 2007 Warlords GOTM

Yeah, 30 bucks in the U.S. at least is not a lot of money. I mean, you could go without a few meals (which you know is what you're going to end up doing anyway). Priorities man, priorities. Plus this would give the rest of us a chance... :w00t:

I doubt I will be finishing this one too. Just no time and the hopes of winning are slim. I have a massive army but it's not advanced enough to be able to sweep through the enemy's lands in time to get to some winning landmark. Finally could build conquestadors after pasturing the nearest horse supply which is miles and miles away but I'm going to be able to build cavalry soon anyway so it's almost pointless.

I'll be picking up BtS today and it would be a fun learning experience to have as a GOTM. If not August, September may work out.

RE: July 2007 Warlords GOTM

My computer time is limited, so I won't be able to gather any more trophy banners until it's for BtS. I figured I would make a knight rush on at least one of the civs near me. I poised myself for that by building up stables in all my cities and securing a horse supply right in time just to find that I couldnt build knights. I was utterly confused by this and figured something was broken in the game. So I played several turns assuming it was broken, then tried a rifle rush but found they all had grenadiers. I got infantry in time to go to war with them but found myself embroiled between all 3 civs attacking me on all fronts. I made good progress taking english territory and just holding off the greeks enough to keep them from taking anything, but I think in 40 more turns the best I can hope for is to take the english out which wouldnt be enough to beat them and Ive been a little frustrated by the time per turn its taking.

My other mistake was that I just got done playing a couple bouts of CivIII before playing this so I over-expanded early on and was economically hindered early.
Oh well, better luck next month I guess. Now I've researched pikes just in time to deal with the horse archers. I may try something a bit different in this game. Leave the barbs a LOT of space, and send out stacks to eradicate the other civs. Gotta stop building wonders first though... :P

RE: July 2007 Warlords GOTM

I had not played in ages, gave it a try but was not ready for the barbs and was only able to squeze out a time victory with a horible score around 3k or so... no point in submiting it since it is a bad score but woah those barbs are crazy

RE: July 2007 Warlords GOTM

Submission Accepted
Nuclearcow: Victory - Domination in 1898 [red]Score - 20,770[/red]

The bar has been set high on this one early guys... get after it. :)

RE: July 2007 Warlords GOTM

Hello all, been almost a year since I played Civ and visited this site...with all the excitement going around on the web about the new expansion I thought I'd visit again and give the ol' GotM a try. Well, I thought I'd still have something of my skills left, but apparently this wasn't the case. Anyway, I gave up this game after the barbs sacked two of my cities and were running rampant through my empire destroying villages....there really wasn't a point anymore, especially since they'd destroyed my mines and all I could build was archers.

Barbs.....yuck!

Oh well, guess I'll be practicing a bit more again then.

RE: July 2007 Warlords GOTM

Hi guys, :)

I have been missing in action here on 1BC for a long time and stopped by again a couple days ago and saw the GOTM thread and remembered how I used to love those for CIV III, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I've played a lot of CIV IV, but mostly multiplayer. I thought I did pretty well.

Domination victory in 1898. Score 20770 (Augustus Caesar).

I usually hate the raging barbarian setting. I built a LOT of axemen and gave them the 25% melee upgrades when I could and sent them away to forrested hills nearby and tried to fight the barbs there, which worked sometimes, but sometimes they just walk past your fortified troops, which is annoying. Why won't they just come to their death like I planned? :P

I tried to get ivory nearby soon and made some war elephants which crushed the barbs. Only built 4 cities early on with lots of cottage/hamlets, so when I later went out and took barbarian cities, I didn't totally go broke.

I built my cities up a lot and later realized I'm wasting my time, so I went for Cavalry a little earlier and absolutely walked over the Koreans in the 1800s. I'm not sure I lost more than 1 or 2 cavalry total against them. I built up to invade the Greeks, but seeing their cavalry and musketmen (right before I invaded) made me realize I waited too late, so I kept peace with them and sent my stuff over to the Brittish. By the time I declared war, I already had 69% of the land, so I knew I could only take a city or two before I hit 70% land, which I did.

Self critique. I've only played ancient era before and always play marithon setting, so I realized I built up too much and too long before attacking. I ended the game with 51 Cavalry. Stupid. I could have won much earlier than 1898 if I had used them earlier.

I enjoyed it. :)

RE: July 2007 Warlords GOTM

Deja vous. Of course, instead of "my username" of course I mean the name I post with here at 1bc. ;)

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Good Luck all...
