Did I mention this game was Deity? And I won!!
I used Jags to overun the other civs but then had to use Swordsmen because the option to build Jags went away once I had my Golden Age. Swordsmen still outnumbered Knights 2 to 1 and are strong enough to take out Pikemen. So thx for the tips.

Here is an update....
I have recently obtained PTW and in my first game I discovered I could upgrade my Swordsmen to medieval infantry. This has an interesting effect on War strategies, I can tell before having entered war.
With the attack capability of the medieval infantry, the emergence of the Pikeman no longer forces a peace era until knights and more noteably until cavalry.
The trigger to war at the moment you make your first swordsmen comes to no end. You can upgrade them to Med Inf and continue to war. In theory, total war remains an option and contained war is no longer fixed to the iron working and military tradition techs. PTW, therefore gives more war input.
Moreso, the additional war input is caused by formidable new UU's. In my first game I am the Ottomans and though I have not yet reached Military Tradition, the Sipahi look formidable and may trigger my conquest.

By the way, will I be able to upgrade my horsemen and knights to Sipahi?

I must make a proper article of it, but I haven't the time and it is not likely to come up so here is an addition to the War Strategy based upon my PTW experience.

Medieval Infantry has changed early warfare entirely. I used to have a peaceful developments period when Pikemen would emerge and render the Swordsmen too weak until Cavalry. Unless I was on a total war streak adn would just add more Swordsmen and run for Knights.

Now that Medieval Infantry comes together with the pikemen there is still a good attacker available at all times and one can plan a contained war at any time.
In addtion, while warring with warriors and swordsmen, the upgrades become more important. And as I do not have the time to build Barracks all over the place, especially on the front, where I need the upgrades, I aim for Sun Tzu's Art of War more than ever.

A warring strategy now looks like this.
Phase 1 -- many warriors swarming the free land and take out lonely competitors where strategically needed. (Need to keep them small and need to keep them out of reach)
Research set to reach Great Library asap
Prepare workers around the Capital for max production towards Great Library
Phase 2 -- Swordsmen, early wars. Group the Swordsmen and take on any neighbor that can be attacked. The aim is here also to general Leaders
By the time Great Library is achieved: minimize research, maximize scouting efforts -- all civs must be found and contacted.
Phase 3 -- Aim for Sun Tzu's. Switch to monarchy. Keep the army to the maximum supported size at least.
When Sun Tzu's is reached: fielded Warriors and Swordsmen can be upgraded to Medieval Infantry anywhere you capture a city.
