I just recently downloaded the beta 1.15 patch and I noticed that when you start a new game, when you're designing your world there is a text box and it says seed = 0. it appears that you can change the 0 but I've never tried.......does anyone know what it all means????

It alters the seed value which the map is generated with. It can be numerical or text. If text, it is converted to a numerical equivalent and the text is case sensitive - meaning Civ3 would generate a different seed valu that civ3. What ever value you use is supposed to regenerate the same map everytime you use it.

Forgot to mention ... in the main menu, you'll also see a "Play last map" entry, as well.

What I would like to find out is: Given 10 computers all inputing the same seed value, if all of the maps would be exactly the same.

Thanks brotha, that makes sense.

So does that mean a seed value of zero is assigned as random?? Am I understanding that correctly?

And I wonder if you can influence the nature of a map with different numbers, like if:

555555 will tend to have more horses than say

444444 or something along those lines?

I've wondered if you could play an entire game a second time, but with a different civ : Same opponents, same map, same volcano eruptions, etc., but as the Civ that kicked your butt! Would eveything remain the same if you chose another civ? Or is civ choice a variable in the map generation, too?
