When you start the game there is an option to "retain seed" or "preserve seed" or something like that. If this is checked, when you load a save the same events will take place (volcanic eruptions, enemy actions, etc) after the save is loaded. If it is not, the seed changes, and the events will happen differently. IE: You load a saved game, and the next turn a volcano erupts, and england decalres war on the Mayans.. IF: the seed is preserved, loading again from this same point will result in these same two events taking place. Else: if the seed is NOT preserved, then neither of these things may happen, as there is an element of randomness to both the AI and NPC events.
