Just wondering who regularly relocates their palace to a more-centered city once the brunt of your expansion has taken place? Often, I begin on an east or west coast and can only expand in the other direction so that the cities on the far side of the empire have corruption problems. Is there a disadvantage to relocating the capitol? Or do you just rely on the Forbidden Palace to compensate?

Forbidden Palace helps but only to an extent-cities are still somewhat affected by disctance from capital.

If my capital starts on an extreme side of my empire, I'll usually build a palace more central, and then maybe the Forbidden Palace near my old capital because this is usually the area of my strongest cities and I want to keep 'em rolling!

You can move your palace any time you want, but the FP stays where you put it.

Many people will build their FP near to their original capital and then just move the palace to where its needed.

For the first time that is exactly what I am doing Pesta. In the past I've always built the FP in an area some distance from my original palace only to find that the continent I landed on is much larger than I thought. In the current game I am playing, I was able to build the forbidden palace before I even finished colonizing the current island I was on. KNowing that my palace was not in the center I built my FP in the middle. Now that I have founded another island I have started building my original palace on the new island. I feel this is a much better strategy than what I was used to doing. So far so good.

When I can (and when possible), I will try to coordinate and coincide the building of my FP and my (new) Palace in a better location for the majority of my empire. (When relocating both will give me better "performance" from my cities.) I try keep one of the two located such that my original cities still fall within the "ring" of influence ... as much as possible.

... and don't forget, IIRC, MGL can finish small wonders (which should include Palace/FP). I could be wrong, but can't look up to verify.

No, TC, you're right. At least the option is there, I've never actually used it.

Personally, I never relocate the capital. I did once or twice, back in the early days of Civ2, but have not since then.

It depends on the shape of the continent and how my cities are spread. If its going to be beneficial, then I'll change it.

I will from time to time build the FP next to the palace and move the palace out to where the new expansion is happening...but I'm generally too lazy to do that.

Plus, if you're a democracy, you can buy buildings in new expansion areas. Build your FP near another group of good producing cities near your core, but that are affected by waste, and then just BUY BUY BUY all the new stuff on the frontier. If you go Communist or fascist, it helps though.

I still find (for the most part) that, with C3C, civil engineers and police specialists combined with the buying power of a democracy fairs better than Communism. It depends on the size of your empire. Too huge and democracy just doesn't cut it. But the CEs and police definitely prolong it.

Still, it is seldom that I relocate my Palace - unless I started on an coast. Then you are wasting your sphere of influence.
