Even better, when you click on a unit, it will respond in the language of your selected region, so it would be cool to know Mandarin if you choose to be Chairman Mao as the leader of your Chinese civilization. This feature really validates the concept of the game in the development of world history, as multiculturalism and the many languages of Earth are often overlooked in games targeted at North America. Who knows, maybe by the time Civ IV is released, it will also include a little tutorial to teach you what each unit is saying and how to say it.

That is almost hard to believe, but I guess if there are a limited number of phrases used by the guys, then it is possible.

JB is right, I think. I've watched some videos and it's indeed something like "yes". I also heard "at your service" and the like.

Guys, the units would probably say something like: "yes sir", "no sir". I don't think they will have the memory nor time to make whole frases.

Though not a whole language, it's still a nice feature. But I wonder how they know in what way the Mayans said "at your service".

The Mayans still exist. They no longer have the giant complexes but the Mayan people, and their language, still exist.
