yeah, but i get legionarys, which make up my entire army, which seem to dominate hoplites.
i FINALLY took over the last eguptian town in my teritory. i sustained heavy loses, and my army was almost killed, but in the end i captured the town. they are willing to settle for less for a peace treaty now, but i want to get something out of it, not lose something. im now preparing an absolutly massive seaborne assault. i hope to devestate their economy, leaving but a few cities left.

i was just basking in my peace, when greece demands i move my troops out of their terratory. i oblige, and then ask them to move their troops out of my teratory. then they declare war on me. im gonna pound the greeks, now i have knights.

alright, well that didnt happen. turns out they were very well defended, and i had no hope of getting through at the time. i made peace with them, i got a territory map, a world map, in exchange for territory map, world map, and 20 gold. oh well. next on my list is greece. im taken em down. im in 3rd place now, egypt is in first, greece is in second, and germany is in fourth. my army is strong compared to anybodies.

Although you did have your legions, your war could have been much more profitable to you (ie: lost fewer legions, taken more land) if you had attacked any civ other than Greece. Lagions are very tough unit, but are no better than normal swordsmen at attacking, its only on defense that they have an advantage against other civs. Add that to the fact that Greece would have had a GA at the same time you did, and you have just thrown any advantage your civ might have had in war out the window.

As far as your second war with Greece, remember that one of the most grevious mistakes one can make in war is to be over-optimistic. The AI does this frequently. Never attack unless you know you have (or can gain) the advantage. The fact the Greece declared war on you like that is an indicator that They thought themselves more than a match for you. The wiser thing for you to have done would be to sit back and let the AI invade you first while you take up defensive positions. If you had done this, the AI would have sent their entire offensive force into your country, where you can surround them, where they can't heal, and where you have the use of roads and cities. After you get the enemy's offensive force eliminated, the AI is much easier to beat off.

Something else that you may or may not have overlooked: Artillery is VERY important. Both offensively and defensively, it decides battles. Defensively, you can put them in your cities to bombard the enemy as they approach, then they also get a free shot as the city is attacked. Offensively they can reduce any defence to shambles, making the city smaller, and the defense garrison weaker. But they must be used in quantity. one or two is nearly worthless. But twenty to fifty (I've even built 200 before) can save your arse in almost any war.

im still in the middle ages. anyway, the post about me failing the offshore attack was actually on egypt, it should have come before the post about getting in a war with greece for the second time. my war is going okay, they are being pretty agressive,m i havent had a change to take the offensive yet. after this im going back to cheiftan, im really not very good yet.

hehhh...
i signed a alience with egypt vs the greeks, it may cost me, but it shoudld utterly destroy the greeks.
edit: the war is going incredibly well. i simply ripped into athens left boarder, destroying cities left and right. i just destroyed their cpaital city, athens, and am now proceeding to sparta. they will still only give me chemistry, 30 gold for my peace treaty, so i think i should destroy about 5 more cities.

edit: the war is finally over. after destroying their capital twice, raising 6 or 7 cities, inflicting heavy casualties and only suffereing minor losses. finally, after many negotiations, i signed a peace treaty and got a world map, territory map, 2 workers, navigation, banking and musical theory. this was truly a great war, and now greece is only ahead by 6 points.

Well done Dark

I just hope you are building settlers and building new cities in the captured territories.

By razing those Greek cities should give you a good work force to build roads. Well done.

If you havent yet done so, good time to think about the placement of the Forbidden Palace.

If you have a good area of land with many cities far away from your capital, I would consider building the FP there in a middle city, one with a river next to it so it can grow to 12 without aquaduct etc.

Cheers

Don't fret on the Forbidden Palace being in your inner core, that's where I build mine.
You only get one FP, but you can move your Palace as much as you like, I like to keep my core cities stable with the FP then move my reg Palace to support another group of cities. When that group is built up I move it again.
And sometimes I move it close to where I am going to start a war, to keep the cities there stable and help with, unrest in captured nearby cities.

Looks like you are having fun and that IS the main thing.

Hey Darkthought. You should have attacked anyone but greece.their hoplite dominates until cavalry comes out.You should Start building settlers after your second warrior whenever possible.I dont think Legionaries are better than swordsmen unless you want to sit in their territory.you should attack only when you are sure you will win.
Anyways great work.
