DONT NUKE IT - that's a good way to make sure that every nuke he ever makes goes your way.

I only nuke if I haev a significantly larger nuclear arsenal, if it's absolutely neccessary, or if they stuck first, which is rare.

I think I'll be fine if I nuke it... But that depends. If I were to built a nuclear sub and send it out, will I be able to load a tactical nuke on it later? Also, why can't I build nuclear submarines yet if I have uranium? Do I need the Manhattan Project?

Additionally, since they're struggling to build the UN now, I'd imagine that they'd even finish building their nukes and subs if/when I nuke them. They don't even have Rocketry yet.

Nuking will solve the immediate problem, as will fast military victory - you'll be fine ... until someone else starts building the UN, at which time you need to do it all again.

However, building the UN yourself will resolve the problem permanently - you will not have top worry about it again (except if you as me once mishit the dialog asking for a UN vote and lost...).

Nuking would be the worst thing. The best thing is to beat him at his own (end)game. Give away luxuries and really good deals to everyone but him. Basically ... buy everyone off until he builds the UN (or you do). When the election is held (while you still have all these great "deals" going) everyone will vote for you.

Finished. Final score was 5648. Could've gone for more though, had about 100 turns left...

Thanks for your advice on the UN guys, I could've been screwed over had I not known how the UN worked.

Good game by the looks of it

Just a future comment for the UN... If it gets built by someone other than you, the simplest answer is to turn everyone against them. Go around to each civ and bribe them to attack the byzantines... There is no way the Byzantines can win diplomatically if everyone is at war with them. Remember you only need half the civs to ally with you, that will be enough to stop a diplomatic victory. One last comment... That backwards civ on some small island with 5 towns, bribe them first. Giving them some stupid backwards to you tech like gunpowder or magnatism isn't going to have any effect on the game, but their vote counts as much as the most powerful nations does in the UN.

Never nuke if you don't have that UN for yourself though. You nuke someone, the world goes to war with you. Once they all have you picked as their enemy, they'll all vote against you and for the nation that beat you to the UN.

and on that size 41 city....
you could (unless its something like water or flood plains) build mines instead of irrigation. IMHO, its better to have something like 20-25 people and 100+ shields than 35-40 people, lots of specialists, and 60-70 shields (often less, esp with irrigated grass)
