Hi,

I'm new to this and just got Civ3 Complete a few weeks ago. Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I read through quit a bit of the forum and couldn't find anything dealing with this particular problem.

Basically, when I complete a conquest, and the game goes through the different ending screens, it always crashes when I try to move past the Victory Status screen. (I think the guy with the hammer is supposed to come next?). Windows tries to send an error report, and then I have to force the Civ app to quit. I've won victories for both 'Mesopotamia' and 'Rise of Rome' and it does the same thing. I've also played an Epic game all the way through, however, and there was no problem.

I'm attaching a saved game from right before the victory in the Mesopotamia scenario, but I'm not sure the problem is with the sav file. Any ideas?

thanks!

I didn't think it would be evident in a save, but I tested anyway, and no crash... hmmm, perhaps your install is corrupted a bit, and you should do an uninstall delete the directory, and reinstall, if that fails to help your going to have to get further into tech support than I know... The last screen IIRC is not suppose to be the hammer test in the conquests the poor guy is left out because of the way the games are scored, it should however kick you back to the main menu...

Thanks,
I tried unintstalling/reinstalling last night, but didn't delete the directory. I'm also going to try installing on a different computer and running the save file there...

perhaps you:
1) have a virus
2) your vid/graphics card is messing up
or
3) all of the above

that would be an odd place for video card/drivers to stop working, but who knows... I also doubt a virus would cause a repeatable error, and not others... My guess is one of the data files that make whatever table it is trying to display is corrupt. Now why it crashes, tries to error report, and that fails? hmmm, did M$ stop allowing error reporting to people that haven't proved their validation with the genuine advantage program?

I had the exact same problem and after searching everywhere for an answer I saw something that I checked out.

Go into the conquests folder and look for the file campaignrecord.hof. Check to see if it is marked as a read only - mine was. Uncheck read only and then reload your save game, finish and you will not get the victory game crash and you will see you score in the hall of fame.

Hmmm, interesting, nice to know the fix.  Never had the error, wonder why they would ever mark that as read only?    Now how many other threads would this solve?  LOL

STEPHANIE you are so awsome and so is this message board!  I was so frustrated by this campaign problem I installed it on a 2nd new computer and got same error again.  Must be a problem with this new COMPLETE disk set.  Thanks again I'm moving on the campaigns now! WOO WHOO

Hey, I just bought the complete edition too--an upgrade from the original, LOVE CIVILIZATION! (going to wait for a price drop on 4 though). And guess what..the read only file was f---ing my day up. This thread saved my sanity. Thanks!
