Well I don't know about anyone else but I for one will be for the most part MIA next week due to Thanksgiving.  Will the game be postponed until the following week or will it continue?  I will be in California starting tomorrow and won't be returning until next Sunday.  My parents have the internet but my inlaws don't so I will be without it for a good portion of the week.  It might be a good idea to hold off a week as the North Americans will be slightly distracted.

-Well, so far I've only received word from you about being absent next week and so I'm guessing people will manage to get their orders in. If you can't get them in later this week then send them earlier. I can't halt the game because of you but if many more will be absent then I will halt the affected games.

Hey that's understandable and I'd rather not halt the game either.  I asked Winner to be a bit lenient on me if my orders weren't turned in on time.  I should have one night before Friday where I can check the internet so I should be okay but if nobody hears from me very much, don't take it as anything.

Open Dippy Letter.

I have "played" only one turn (not yet completed) in game 1 and have the following observation(s)

There is no inflection nor body language in email.

One looses the perspective of watching each person place their units after orders are written.

The subtlety of miswriting orders are is missing.

PBEM is NOT Dippy, ... I am not saying that it may not be a fun game in it's own right ... but it sure is not the same as being able to look into the eyes of those who you are about to stab.

-I see pro's and cons to both play types.

-In face-to-face Diplomacy you have the body language, you speak directly to the players and the game is quicker. The downside is that you can't keep much secret, it's difficult to get six other people to give up 4-8 hours of the day to play and you usually play with the same people, making things a bit predictable.

-In PBEM Diplomacy you don't know who the other players have been talking to,you can disregard body language and so it is easier to lie and harder to see through it. The downside is that you have no direct contact and all the things that go with that.

-Tosk, if you pay the tickets and so on we could all play Diplomacy face-to-face at your house. Think of the Diplomacy PBEM as a way to get people addicted to Diplomacy, buy the board game and play face-to-face.

-Are you a bit sore after your first stab? I guess you're surrounded by opportunists.

Lol I am not A-H, I'm not even in the 1st Diplomacy game, and I have only been stabbed once and they used a very tiny sliver of a toothpick.  I barely felt it.  lol  But wow that was ruthless!  A-H is getting payback for Poland.....

I have to say congratulations to von Clausewitz, some amazing tactics and game play in Diplo game #2, I did something really stupid and he got me. I deserve it!
