I just wanted to announce the completion of my first game at BOUNCED.

FastNMR24Gunboat55

Played as Italy, got a share of the win in a 3-way draw with England and Turkey. I think you can copy/paste the name in 'Jump to Game' to check it out.

Edit: Ok, I tried that myself and it says that the game does not allow observers. So some questions for Onyx: Is the no observers rule in effect forever, even after a game? And I noticed a seperate sorting catergory for Finished games and finished w/eogs. I am guessing that is end of game summary. What is the eogs, and who does it, or is it something that is done automatically?

Okay this is kind of a dumb question but in the interests of being precise...  who are all the leaders of the different powers that we address?  In answer to my own question (research done at Wiki), here are the leaders of the various powers of the time I believe.

-France had presidencies at that time and I believe Georges Clemenceau was the president at the time of WWI.

-Russia, Tsar Nicholas II.

-King George V of England

-Sultan Abdul Hamid II of Turkey

-Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany.

-King Vittorio Emanuele III of Italy.

-Austro-Hungary is a bit more complex.  We all say Archduke but Emperor Franz Josef was the guy in the throne.  Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assasinated which started the war.

Alrighty, D6 is officially over and Germany and England finished in a draw.  I would like to start a debate which is a biggy amongst Dippers.  That is the issue of drawing or soloing.  Should one try and draw in a game or should a solo be the prefered method of "winning".  Can a draw be seen as a "win"?

To push the issue further, is it fair to plan a draw early on.  It's one thing to draw because you have no choice but in the last game, both Germany and England had ample chance to turn on the other.  Germany always could have while England really had the opportunity towards the end.  One could argue that it is not fair because it creates an unfair advantage in that the two powers are working as one power and to some extent are trusting their ally a bit more than they would in a normal situation.  Then again, other players are also open to planning for a draw early on and the whole point of the game is to work with others for at least a certain period of time.  Planning for a draw also requires a huge amount of trust if they want it to happen.  One sign of mistrust could make the other mistrustful as well.

Another issue with this game was the lack of press.  Some players offered very little press at all while both E and G were in constant communication with each other.  It was obvious from the start who would be around to the end.  Anyway, feel free to discuss these issues and I'll chime in a bit more as well if there's enough interest.

Oops - forgot all about this one.

In my view, and probs because I haven't played too many Diplomacy games, I am usually willing to trust another player until it is obvious they are about to stab me. Maybe I am too 'green' or too honourable.

I think the reason the alliance lasted in D6 was because Germany was the only country in constant communication with me. I took lack of communication as a sign that another power was not interested in what I had to say.

The bizarre start with France and Turkey effectively shooting themselves in the foot also made for an unusual game!
