Hi

Game Of The Month

The rules are simple. You play ti without cheating, without reloading etc. After you finished the game you submit your score and that way you may see your performance comparing to other members of the community.

Is there a way to play against others?  We got play the world and have attempted to get into a game, but it throws us out each time it enters the game.  Is there a patch to fix this?

Yes indeed, GOTM is completely different. It's a single player game set up for people to compete against others, even if they don't have the time or something to actually play against people online.

I'm not sure WHY you get booted out of playing proper multiplayer, but if you can't get that to work, then PBEM's are slower but generally a more reliable way to play against others.

I'll re phrase the original question...

Where is GOTM?

I sort of expected that there would be regular Civ 4 GOTMs for people to attempt, whether competitive or just simply to compare other players strategies. I don't understand why there isn't.

It might rekindle a bit of interest in Civ4 for those who have lost some.

That Civatron idea for Civ 3 (just before Civ 4 came out) was a pretty good one. Maybe something like that, but without all the voting beforehand.

Where is GOTM?

That's true actually, no-one seemed to ever start up a regular monthly thing for Civ4.

The Civ3 ones went well, I remember Scip and I keeping them alive until about the end of last year, when Civ4 came out. Was thinking about doing a Civ3 GOTM/Walkthrough soon when I get the time.

If I ever get to play Civ4, maybe I'll start some - but we're talking many months away yet.

Ok so are there certain settings we need to have for the GOTM? Or could it be any settings and it's sort of like plays of the week on ESPN? (everyone plays their own game and only the best play is picked)

Thanks a bundle...no way in hell Ill win but Im game for the game!!

The GOTM is a sinlge player game that is set up by one person. they start up the game with various settings etc. and save the game before they move anything. This save is then posted on the forums (1 a month) which players download. They open the save and play the game as usual. When they have won (or lost), they post their score, (many also post how they finished, - conquest, space race etc - what year they finished in and a little info on how they did it). You must also try and remember to save the game just before the end (it is advisable to have 'auto-save' on incase you miss the end) then upload that into the GOTM thread in these forums so that the adjudicator can confirm your score etc.
