1. More Civilizations like in the Civ 3 expansion pack. 2. Win by Globalization? Buy the world! 3. Customize the turns/time line so that you have a chance to play the rise of the Roman Empire or a WW2 struggle (As soon as you have propeller driven fighters, you get jet fighters before you can have a real Battle of Britain scenario.). 4. Rip-off "Call to Power" for the future tech, sea/space colonies etc. 5. How about some terrorism/biological warfare eh! 6. Have your colonies/overseas cities rebel against you to form new Civ's (Like America.). 7. In reality, especially in pre modern times, once one Civ has discovered a technology the adjoining neighbours should it easier to discover - tales from wandering merchants etc. 8. Could spys play more of a role and give misinformation to the enemy. Turn double agent and give info away? 9. Once a unit is ancient it should be really weak and obsolete. Never understood why a load of spear chuckers could do any damage to a jet fighter or tank? 10. Environmental disaster, sea levels rise as pollution causes ice caps to recede! Freak weather and earthquakes. Volcanoes and meteors. Why not; barbarian attack is only in the early part of the game and there is always Pompeii to come! 11. Fight over far off colonies without necessarily having a war on the home front. 12. Buy/Sell or hire for a number of turns unites between players as mercenaries in times of war.

1. Desert irigation
2. Playing only certain eras, like ancient - middleage with new, specific goals.
3. Underwater channels so troups can move without boarding a ship
4. Ice caps melt, making more fertile ground on the poles, making deserts on the equator. Sudden global change of this, not tile-based change.
5. Volcanos like in Sim City. Suddenly half of your continent is changed into hils, or suddenly an area is circled arround with impassable hills, making this a new, isolated civ or civs if there are more than one stuck in the volcano.
6. I miss the wonder that automatically upgrades your units.
7. I miss the wonder that shares tech that 2 civs have researched already. (this is like Internet, but Internet comes too late- by my taste).
8. More wonders should be introduced that are cheaper, but last shorter, and make certain tactical - techological advances over other civs.
and finally,
9. Make the whole game faster to play. Even with decent hardware the game is seriously lagging in the second half of the gameplay.

- I wish that spies would have more of a role in this game as in the past.... Spreading propoganda, inciting a revolt, bribing units, etc. made these units worth having. Civ IV really took away a lot of their power by just being able to inspect cities, steal plans and sabotage improvements/builds. They're almost not worth building anymore. And the fact that you're limited to building 4 is annoying. - Additionally, I'd like the spy units to be a lot more discreet with their actions, i.e. when you steal a competitors plans the game tells them (whether they catch the spy in the act or not). I think that the 'victim' should only be made aware of subterfuge if they catch the spy, otherwise they'd never be the wiser. Contaminating the water supply to bring city size down, sabotaging cultural buildings, inciting cultural revolts, bribery, etc. would bring a nice element to the game. - The option to take ships over after battle rather than destroying them. Much like taking over an enemy city, you could have the option to capture it or raze it. - An actual wonder worth building towards the end of the game when you get a Great Engineer for discovering Fusion. - And finally, the ability to steal and enslave Great People would be hella cool.
