General Information- All standard games will be run on Civ3 Conquests V1.22. This should also be the version that comes with Civ3 Complete.
- There may be scope for specialised games in the future.
- Every month, a new game will be posted on these boards for users to try.
- When you complete the game, please submit the save the turn before the victory (this is so we can verify the final score), along with any final instructions (in case a unit needs to be moved, etc.)
- There will most likely be a deadline, of approximately 1 month after the game was first posted up.
Rules- This is supposed to be a friendly competition. All we ask is that you play fairly. This means no cheating! We are relying on your honesty here. We will ignore submissions from any users who we have deemed to have cheated. Any abuses of our trust will be dealt with appropriately.
- Cheating includes, and is not limited to:
- Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, then replaying and starting the game again).
- Modifying saved game files in any way to gain an advantage.
- Reloading games and re-playing turns in a different way. You may save games to save your session of play, of course, but must continue onwards from the latest save when resuming play.
- Purposefully loading and reviewing other users' submissions to gain an unfair advantage.
- Purposefully reading any spoilers before playingto gain an advantage.
Results- Once the submission date has passed,we will determine from the valid submissions who has achieved the greatest score.
- If your save is submitted early enough, the admin may have a chance to check it's validity before the deadline, in case there are issues.
- The admin's decision is final. We hope this will be a friendly competition and there will be no need for arguments over monthly winners.

FAQ
How do I download the GOTM?
Every month, a new GOTM will be made available through this forum. The saved game file will be supplied within the relevant thread to download. You can then load this saved game file as required.
You must download the saved game supplied, do not try and recreate maps using the seed, as I do not disclose every setting I have selected (e.g. which AIs). It is the only way to guarantee everyone is playing the same game.
Note - sometimes, to save space and decrease download time, the saved game files are compressed into ZIP files. There are a number of tools available that can extract such files. If you have any issues, please feel free to let us know, and we can supply you with an uncompressed version of the saved game.
How do I submit my attempt?
To validate your submission, you need to post the saved game on the turn just before your victory, along with any final instructions (e.g. unit moves, launch the spaceship, etc.). This is so an administrator can load the game and confirm your final score and victory.
If possible, please consider compressing the saved game into a ZIP file, as it will shorten your upload time, and make it quicker for others to download the save.
How should I name my saved game?
Whilst you are playing the game, it does not matter what you call your saved games. Obviously it is preferable to give them meaningful names, so you can identify your saved file again.
On submission, it is helpful to me if you give the save the standard name that Civ3 would give it (e.g. "GotM200609 of the Japanese, 2000 AD.SAV"), but not mandatory. I store everyone's submissions separately for easier identification.
What is the Seed?
The seed is a text string used when creating a map. Psweet has given a good definition:
psweetman1590 "Seed" is an option when starting a new game to use a not-entirely-random map. What I mean by that is that when you start a new game, on the map creation page, there is a box at the top where you can enter text (or numbers if you like). The map is generated, and the game plays like normal. Now, if for some reason, you wanted to play that map again, you could put the same text/numbers in the box, and it will give you the exact same map. Although, you have to be careful not to mess anything up (all the climate settings, world size, #of civs (esp seafaring civs), etc.), or the map/starting locations won't be the same.
I have included the seed for academic reasons so that people can play the map again with whatever setup they like. My understanding is the same as yours psweet - the seed gives the same map layout, but you have to ensure the climate settings are the same to ensure exactly the same terrain.
And I'm the one who picks the AIs each time, as you can't trust the "Random" option to actually be Random (it's a bug). So that's another reason to use the save I provide.
