ahh, i see, so my typing in "that70ssho" is pretty meaningless, as it's not the exact same game as is being done in the GOTM's...

I'd be better off just downloading the file...

Yes you should always use the GOTM file, as it's the only way to guarantee everyone is playing the exact same game.

Psweet
Actually, if you had all the options exactly the same, you should end up with the exact same game.  Only thing is, I don't think most GOTMs reveal who the rival civs are, or in what order they're listed, so that might screw things up.  But assuming I'm wrong, you shouldn't have to dl the save if you really didn't want to.

I have included the seed for academic reasons so that people can play the map again with whatever setup they like. My understanding is the same as yours psweet - the seed gives the same map layout, but you have to ensure the climate settings are the same to ensure exactly the same terrain.

ADDIT: And I'm the one who picks the AIs each time, as you can't trust the "Random" option to actually be Random (it's a bug). So that's another reason to use the save I provide.

now that i have a better understanding, i look forward to taking a total whooping on October's GOTM!  Hopefully it won't be a Demi game again- I've yet to beat Regent!

Cheers!

Ok, one more question before I potentially take a run at this GOTM...

How do you make sure you capture the save on the exact turn before the end of the game?  Is there an "undo" function that allows you to get to the turn exactly before the crushing blow?  Or do you end up having to save on every turn towards the end of the game?

Thanks again for all the help!

If you have autosaves on, then you should be able to find the relevant turn file in that directory.

Although a good plan is to keep a save each turn, once you are getting close to victory.

As long as you don't save/reload cheat, then it is fine to keep as many saves as you like, to ensure you have a copy of the relevant file.
