Game Complete.. Champion: Palpster

Greetings all... Save File and Rules have been added at the bottom of this post.

Version: 1.61

Civ: Japan  with 5 AI rivals (random)

Difficulty: Warlord

Permanent Alliances Allowed... Modified Assets Locked

All Victory Conditions Allowed.

Looks like a good start position..

If you build your first city in the position shown, here are your build options:

Submissions will be accepted until 6PM US Central (GMT -6) July 30th.

Submissions should be named as follows: [your username]JulyGOTM.Civ4SavedGame

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

  1. Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
  2. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
  3. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
  4. Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Good Luck All....

beeline for a religion...   need farming, and animal husbandry...  from there wheel, and a worker...  have to play to see what would be next in my mind...  would probably leave the capital undefended, and head for that goodie hut, build a defender, and see how many turns till next city growth...  decide on worker, settler, or another defender unit...  early strats are tough.

I see the Capitol will not be the productive base of the world... I would (if playing) move the settler down south 1 tile and then settle. That way you'll get all the recourses plus the extra future mine. The grassland wouldn't be wasted either due to the quantity in food.

Go ahead and sign me up for this one, Goose.

it's a single player game where we play against each other's scores JR, any free time to beat the game works, last month I took about six hours. but this one is going to be an easier difficulty... Once the deadline is up, the winner is decided,  there are some rules to fair play... but it is basically the honor system to follow them... Then again cheating in a forum like this is distasteful....    Once done, upload your save and whomever is Admining the game checks score / win loss...  and such.

I'll do this!  Maybe having others to compare with, chat about will get me into the game...maybe I'll be able to pull myself away from WoW for long enough...lots of maybes in there but I'll give it a go.

Where's the List of Thou Shalt Nots?  Published with each game or is there a list somewhere?

The GOTM save and the rules have been added to the first post of this thread.

Good luck everyone. I'm playing the game myself unofficially. My score will not count, but I'll post it when I finish the game.

Snatched the save...

Only possible exploit that I have come across is you can use your mouse pointer to learn about the terrain, and such in areas covered by the fog of war...  If you have a Open boarder's treaty, you can locate cities by where your unit icon is "defendable." (I was using it for where to send missionaries in my attempt at whatever the level above noble is...)  If you watch the pointer you can tell where hills are, and I think mountains too...  Safe or Not?
