Just curious, who has mods installed for Civ IV and if yes, what mods do you use and why?

Me only ever installed the HOF mod from CivFanatics, nothing else so far. Haven't really looked for good mods either, but maybe I'll get a good impression from the replies here?

</Civ4GameSpeedInfo>

Basically, all this mod does it make the game last a REALLY long time, make units build faster, buildings build slightly faster, and techs not too much faster than in the standard paced versions. Thus, lots more time to build and use your units before they go obsolete.

One thing that annoyed me with modding the xml filles is that when I change them back for online play, it still says online that I have a modded verion - this is very annoying since u'll be booted out of the games lol and I had to re-install civ to get it completely back to normal.

My guess would be because the files have a different "last modified" date and time.  Try making a copy of the files before you mod them.  Place the originals in a different folder, don't rename them as that will change the modified date as well.  If you want to play online, rename the modded files to something else and move the backups into the correct location.  I'm not positive it will work but I think it will.

Thanks for the idea, but sadly, this is what I did, and no, sadly, it did not work and I still had to re-instal the game lol.  Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Sorry if I caused you to have to reinstall your app General.

To create your own mods in a way that will still allow you to play online games, various mods, and the standard vanilla settings Do this:

Create the following folder directory

C/Programs/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civ 4/Mods/My Mod/Assets/XML/GameInfo/

(Note you might prefer to name "My Mod" as "General George's Mod" or whatever you prefer)

The new part that you will create will be the:

My Mod/Assets/XML/GameInfo/

part.

Simply navigate to

C/Programs/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civ 4/Mods

right-click and create "new folder." Name it My Mod, then open it and repeat for the Assets, and XML sub-folders.

Navigate back up to the following directory path

C/Programs/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civ 4//Assets/XML/GameInfo/

Right-click and "copy" the file:

"CIV4GameSpeedInfo"

Right-click in the GameInfo folder window (not on a file name, somewhere blank inside the folder window) and "paste" a copy of the file ""CIV4GameSpeedInfo" into your GameInfo folder, resulting in the folowing file appearing in the folder:

"Copy of CIV4GameSpeedInfo"

Right-click and copy this file. Navigate back to

C/Programs/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civ 4/Mods/My Mod/Assets/XML/GameInfo/

right-click and paste the copy here. Right-click and rename the file so that you will now have:

C/Programs/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civ 4/Mods/My Mod/Assets/XML/GameInfo/Copy of CIV4GameSpeedInfo

Rename the file "CIV4GameSpeedInfo" so that you will now have

C/Programs/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civ 4/Mods/My Mod/Assets/XML/GameInfo/CIV4GameSpeedInfo

The "CIV4GameSpeedInfo" is the XML document into which you replace the XML text I posted above.

One last thing you will have to do to make it work right. Navigate back up to

C/Programs/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civ 4/Mods

And open any of the "in the box" Mod folders (e.g., "Desert War" should work fine)

When you open the folder

C/Programs/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civ 4/Mods/Desert War

You will see three items. Two sub-folders "Assets" and "Info" as well as one notepad document "Desert War." Open this "CONFIG" notepad file and you will see the following:

[CONFIG]

; This mod is only for single player games
SinglePlayerOnly = 0

; Set to 1 to disallow use of WorldBuilder scenarios
IgnoreWorldBuilderScenarios = 0

; Allow public maps to be used with this mod
AllowPublicMaps = 0

; Mod Image file

; Name of Mod
Name = Desert War

; Description of Mod
Description = World War II Mod

For my Scipio's Marathon Mod, it is as follows

ImageFile = 0

; Name of Mod
Name = Scipio's Civ4 Marathon

; Description of Mod
Description =  Game speed modification, making units and buildings build slightly faster than techs

Create a copy of this notepad document in your

C/Programs/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civ 4/Mods/My Mod

(Note you might prefer to name "My Mod" as "General George's Mod" or whatever you prefer)

And make any changes you need to make to the "CONFIG" notepad file for your mod. Definitely will need to change the name and  probably the description will probably be what you want to change in the notepad CONFIG file.
