This article from August 26, 2002:

PATH LOOSES MAJORITY

Community - The political party arena is 'where the action is'. On the verge of the official decision to move south west, away from Huttage, another member of the assembly decided to leave the PATH party.

Yannick announced a stunning decision, as he signed up for an MHH membership. Stunning, because PATH and MHH almost subscribe the complete opposite.

The Scorpius Mid-election switch set PATH aflame, and still seems to be lingering on. Many accusations followed at the address of SCORPIUS when he left PATH to join the RED party. Scorpius himself seems to be untouched by the matter, as he declared to a LAKE reporter:
"People have every right to be concerned with the actions of their elected leaders. If people think something is done wrong I would be upset if they didn't speak. I have studied the constitution and am on the current committee to finish it. I still see nothing wrong with my actions."

As furious PATH reacted to Scorpius departure, YANNICK switching opposites seems to cause much more a despondent reaction. Although PATH founder SIR L has not officially responded yet, member BLOB already pointed his finger to the slow progress the community is making, as pointed out in the recent edition of THE LAKE. "I hesitate a guess if the community was up and rolling already he would not have fallen from the PATH of honour into the violent ways of the MHH."

Remarkable fact: Scorpius left the party for a mild, center party and was called a traitor, Yannick crossed the road to the biggest political enemy PATH has, and not one rotten tomato has followed him so far...

With the new party switch within the Assembly, it means PATH looses it's majority! Three out of six members are still PATH-followers, and with President ZIG still away, it appears that PATH doesn't have such a strong hand after all.

The scale is turning towards Vice President PANZER ELITE. His aggressive ways of provoking PATH seems to be working out just fine. A PATH reporter found out it was him who has been 'overthrowing' PATH under a false name VACANT2, in an attempt to cause confusion under the new members of the community. It is only a matter of time, untill the Supreme Court might have to interfere in the ongoing battle between the two sides. With Yannick joining MHH, things can only get more heated from now on...

--

Scorpius denies accusations...

Minister of Finance and Science SCORPIUS denies his involvement in the Stone Age Times Blast:
"I can very easily claim that I have never been anywhere near the mountain in the west as I have always remained within the main group of our traveling people. Frankly I've never heard anyone call the mountain Mount Scorchius till this paper. There is no truth to these accusations", he told a LAKE reporter.

--

Warmax wants Temple

Minister of Interior WARMAX wants to build a Temple in the first settlement of the community. However, THE LAKE discovered that this has nothing to do with the recent rise and upturn of Brother McNulty's 'Lighthouse':
"I am happy for McNulty and his visions but the purpose of the temple is for the people of Primus to worship who ever their god may be. In return, the temple will help The Community to flourish culturally and broaden our borders."

Warmax, who is popular with some citizens of Huttage, also feels his plans of heading north-east instead of south-west is bound to fail:
"Five versus one does not bode well for my chances of changing anyone's mind. The forest square to the southwest is a good city site. I just don't feel it is best suited for Primus."

Not sure if you can still find this online anywhere or not, but here's ManiacalMonkey's "original journal."

Part One: The Apocalypse and Sophia

As I write this I can feel my memory unravel. Nano-preservation of the mind apparently only goes so far once contact with Sofia is gone. It is therefore imperative that I trust this knowledge to some of Lamus' precious sheets of perma-parch, lest we forget the purpose of our mission here completely. Three centuries had passed since the Apocalypse. That final, cataclysmic war where all of mankind fought itself to the brink of extinction. Who can tell where it started?

We had become fragmented to such a degree that it is hard to draw any lines. We were empires, nations, collectives, territories, anarchic wildernesses and despotisms scattered across the Earth in a kaleidoscopic social chaos. What is evident - we all thought we were right, we were all more than willing to kill to make our point, and we all did so with great enthusiasm. I was a young captain in Kanda's Iron Legion when we stormed the Imperial Citadel, the nerve center of our empire, to establish a new order. Such internal, violent revolts were commonplace in all factions, and among the reasons that alliances rarely lasted more than a few years. But this time all would be different. Kanda' led us through thirty years of successful campaigning.

All factions fell before us, and either joined the new order, or were annihilated. The sheer variety of social structures, cultures, and beliefs we vanquished - some remarkably wise and benevolent, some decadent and perverted to sickening extents - suffice to say, most are best forgotten. Where Kanda's tactical and strategic brilliance came from I don't know, but our Legions swept aside the armies of our foes, who rigidly clung to the practice of "mathematical escalation", where war was simply won by whichever side had the most blood to spill. But although the borders of our empire were driven out from the Citadel on the barrels of plasma cannons, until they met again on the other side of the globe and completed our conquest of Earth, I believe it was the nature of the new order that held the empire together, where all other great conquerors had failed.

By the time the Apocalypse drew to a close I was Field Marshal of the Legions. Having devoted fifty years of my life to death and destruction, I threw myself on rebuilding Earth with a passion. Much was to be done, humanity lay in shambles, but the new order proved effective beyond our wildest dreams. The great difficulties and frictions in human society were overcome by a combination of nano-technology and social mathematics. We built Sofia - the giant mainframe housed in the Citadel where we gathered every shred of knowledge and wisdom we had gathered during our campaigns. Where knowledge leads to wisdom, wisdom again produces knowledge, and the two reinforce each other to immeasurable heights that the human mind, no matter how much in terms of genetic tailoring and nano-improvement has been applied, cannot begin to comprehend. Sofia, however, combined sufficient storage and processing power with the creativity of the human brain, as Kanda' himself was imbedded in the heart of this great nexus. We had finally created a leader that would last for eternity, that governed Earth from the highest to the lowest level with the utmost wisdom and care, and fulfilled the ancient desire of happiness for all souls on Earth.

Sofia governed through organs of wise men and women, the most important of these being the Administration of Earth. Nano technology allowed us to make ourselves practically immortal and so we would not have to worry about replacing our greatest minds with lesser ones should they pass away. The capacities of the human mind were hugely extended, ruling out things like crime and corruption: While mortals may be tempted to take personal advantage at the expense of others, immortals realize that any damage done to the whole will, in time, reflect back at them. More importantly, when one is happy, there is no need to pursue petty personal gains. We flourished and prospered and spread throughout the stars, expanding Sophia's mainframe to enlarge our understanding by leaps and bounds. Mankind had finally reached a universal Golden Age.

Yes, sir, it has. Along with a bunch of other stuff I'll add a little more later. I believe I have a total of four (maybe three or five) of MM's journal entries, along with my and Scorpius' "origin" stories and some of the old palace documents. I guess since it was written on my paper I'm the owner of the original constitution document, too

This article from August 30, 2002:

VP BLOCKS DEPARTURE

Communtity - The settlers are packed and ready to leave, but are still not moving. After the decision to move South-West has been officially confirmed, the community has not left the place where THE LAKE discovered them months ago.

All fingers point towards Vice President PANZER ELITE. He should be the one giving the order to leave the Huttage Grasslands, but silence remains from the Presidential Tent.

Furious reactions flared up, when the Vice President was acting as a spokesperson for his own party, the MHH, at a time where he should have been handling the departure of the first settlers.

It was judge BOLAN who declared to start an impeachment against the President and Vice President, if the vice president did not attend to his duties the next 24 hours. He also claimed the current situation was making his duty as a judge impossible, and he would resign as a judge if the situation stays the same.

It is expected that if indeed the Vice President has not conducted the departure of the community, and an impeachment procedure will be started, there might just be a lot of votes against the current executive office. The frustration with the citizens is still very high. Basically everyone is tired of waiting.

The resistance against the Vice President is not new. The controversial statements do not fall well with certain members of the community. Even within his own party, there is a resistance against the party name! The pure aggression against anyone who is not community-member is what keeps the party together.

Very soon we will see some action. Either the settlers leave the Huttage Grassland, or an impeachment procedure will be called upon. It would be in everyone's advantage, if the settlers start moving today.

Huttagers angry with WARMAX.

The Community Fans within the village of Huttage are very disappointed with Warmax. For the sake of the community, he decided to vote for the proposal to head South-West, away from the Huttage region. Some huttagers have already said to leave Huttage and join the community, but so far just a few have dared to take the step. The big cultural differences seem to stand in the way of a Huttage exodus.
However, Warmax plan to move closer to Huttage and settle there might put the community within walking distance of Huttage, making it possible to join the community without leaving the village. The move south west has made that fairly impossible.

"Warmax was supposed to vote against the proposal. I guess he doesn't give a hut about our village after all...", an adventurous young man told THE LAKE.

(More from MM. I'll try and paragraph block it myself )

Part Two: The trauma and Redemption

However happy we might have been for decades, centuries even, all humans started to slowly suffer from a nagging feeling of regret. We were unsure where it came from, and it grew gradually - we were 220 years into the new order before it was even recognized as a species-wide problem. By that time, most of the governing of Earth and the Colonies lay in the hands of the Administration and lower organs, while Sofia had been devoting silent decades to the computation of deep philosophy.

After another thirty years of discussion and analysis, we found ourselves unable to determine what was wrong with us. We did know however, that this was dangerous beyond measure - for people were beginning to experience unhappiness, which we knew was the root of all evil. The Administration assembled a small group of men and women to enter Sofia and consult Kanda'. I was among them. When, after three days of travel, I saw the face of my old commander, I was overcome with a powerful sense of loss, regret, grief, and rage. I collapsed to the floor and cried uncontrollably for hours until I came to my senses again. The problem had struck me deeper than I had thought.

We consulted Kanda' and he told us that he and Sofia - apparently somehow still separate entities although we always thought of them as one - had been working on this issue for many years before we decided to come. They had not informed us for want of an answer.

We spent months discussing, analyzing, probing, until we finally came to the conclusion that we were traumatized. Sofia had worked out many solutions for the problems that arise with long-term immortality, but simply had not arrived at this one yet. We had been relieved of neurophysical deterioration, mental overload, memory congestion, nano debris, molecular decay, and a vast array of psychological ailments - but this problem lay in our collective conscience. During the Apocalypse, war had been a constant way of life, a permanent condition. Now that we were free of this however, people started to subconsciously reflect on their past - and not only theirs, but that of generations before them as well. Historically, when people would not live for much more than two-thirds of a century, such reflection would become more and more objective with each generation that passed. This was no longer the case. Our profound belief that we had done the right thing, the perfection of our society and the sheer relief of being at peace had kept us happy for over two hundred years, but now it was no longer enough. We were filled with remorse over the lives we had taken, those we had lost, and regret for all the suffering that we had been unable to prevent. We were even feeling sorry for people that had suffered and died millennia ago. Something had to be done.

Sofia devised a daring plan - as the secrets of the dimensional web were about to be unveiled, all efforts would be diverted to discover how to influence it. Sofia calculated a node in our dimension's history from where all comparable dimensions sprang. If we could sufficiently influence history from there, we would prevent millennia of pain, death and suffering. It was not a conclusive solution. We would still be faced with up to 2050 years of "common" history according to Sofia's best estimates. We could also not be sure about future suffering.

Even as we devised the plan for our redemption, our perfect society was crumbling around us - people were frustrated and confused, started making desperate bids to improve their lives which soon came at the expense of others, and within half a century the streets ran with blood and fire. The preparations was ready about three hundred years after the start of the new order. Sofia and Kanda' would be moved to a safe dimension because Earth was being torn apart by primordial violence. We would assemble a team of some 10,000 people, the Primary Test Group, to travel to the node and alter history. It would be a test of an incomplete theory, and Sofia would stay in contact with us through an equally untested way of communication (altering the conditions in our dimension without altering ourselves, producing messages in code that we would have to decipher). By the same means of interdimensional tinkering, Sofia would guide our nanobots to keep our immortality and enhanced mind capacity working in this different environment. While Earth burned around us, Sofia fired up the most powerful dark-matter reactors ever created and hurled us through the multiverse. That's when things really went wrong

It occured to me that I lost track of this... I want to keep posting these articles here so that we'll have some record if their current online home disappears.

COMMUNITY THREATENS HUTTAGE!

Huttage - Leader NIBBON of the Huttage community has called upon an urgent meeting of elderly Huttagers. Subject ofcourse: what to do when Huttage is unexpectedly attacked by community warriors.

Due to the impeachment of President ZIG and Vice President PANZER, a sudden change in attitude is noticable within the community. Not a word was spoken about Huttage, until the impeachment took place. But now it seems that with no captain stearing the log, the community's impatience has reached the bottomline. If Huttage can be regarded 'a potential threat', it might give reason enough to leave the Huttage Grasslands, meaning no need for a president to give the go-sign, and the minister of Defense to take command.

The arrogance of using Huttage as a potential threat has lead to a bigger opposition amongst the Huttage citizens. The longtime opponents are even calling for mobilization, in case the community sends wariors. Ofcourse, it will be all up to Huttage leader NIBBON what the right response will be to a potential community 'invasion'.

Elections

In the meantime the presidential campaigns are bursting loose. When president ZIG was elected, there were only two parties, and two candidates. Now, it is expected that there will be many more candidates, and nobody will get the absolute majority of votes.

A possible candidate would be ex-supreme coart judge BOLAN, who has not yet confirmed to run, but might just be able to count on a large support. Bolan started the impeachment as a citizen, and played a big part in forming the community, giving him a huge popularity. Recently he announced his membership to the PEP party, which can be regarded the most central party of all, but also still a small one. The effect of this membership in a possible election race is unknown. If only party members would vote, and vote for their own candidate, MHH and PATH might just get their second (vice-)president in a row. But after the failure of Zigeuner (PATH) and Panzer (MHH) to complete the movement, it is expected that the non-PATH/MHH members have given up support and vote for a different party this time.

With many new parties, everyone expects a very close decision in a fantastic race.

This from September 5, 2002:

PRIMUS COMPLETING ROAD

Primus - The farmers of Primus are delighted. Everyday, food transports travel from Primus to the South East farmlands and back. To make this transport much easier, a large group of community workers are building a road to connect both area's.

Huttage is in awe of these achievements. Exactly 50 years after the impeachment incident leading to the most tence situation between the Community and Huttage, it appears now that the two tribes are growing closer to one another again.

But still, the contact is minimum. After the secret meeting between both leaders, discovered by the historian's office, which declared a 'fake' war between Huttage and the Community, giving King Lamus the power to give the go sign to move south west, no contact was made, and the leaders of both tribes are ignoring eachothers excistance.

It might take years and years to come before the two tribes will meet again.

But the rumours within Huttage have never ended. Stories from the spare Primus travelers are overexagerated, but wake the interest of the entire Huttage community over and over again. The few adventurous souls that left Huttage to settle in Primus never returned, and the mystery that is Primus has a major impact on everyday life in Huttage.

War is over?

The question that rises within Primus is how long the acting MoD King Lamus will be first in command. Nobody believes Huttage is still a threat, since the small tribe lies to far away to even contact Primus.

Still, children in Primus are raised to be good, or else the Huttagers will come and take them away. The road to cooperation is a long one, and it might even take a real road to accomplish that.

The war with Huttage has never been a real war, but still stands in the way of a new election, and two tribes finally getting to know eachother.
