Alright, Dave, here we go!
After completeing the GOTM, I took a look at my HOF and noticed there were several Civs that I did not have victories, or even defeats for, so I picked one of those!
Settings:
Tribe: Celts (Religious, Aggy) UU- Gallic Swordsmen (effectively, a Ancient Cavalry minus the horses)
Difficulty Level: Emperor
Barbs: Roaming
Map Size: Large (Decided to go with a bit bigger map as you suggested)
AI: Semi Random- Egypt, England, Netherlands, Japan, Zulu, Aztecs, Korea, Portugal, Greece, China, Arabia (a good mix here, I think.
All other Settings: Random
Victory Conditions: All allowable except Wonders type.
Start: 4000 BC

It Looks Promising
We are seemingly alone in this plane of existance.
goals for this session: 1.) Make a city 2.) Explore 3.) Find a good site for a second city.
1) 4000 BC- Entremont founded on site. Goody Hut gives us bronzeworking. Boy, all this jungle, an industrious civ would be great! Warrior started in city. I usually research first the Pottery or CB. We have both, so I go with Alphabet. 100 percent science does us no good (50 turns yet) so reduce the Science to 20 percent, Alphabet in 50 turns, 3gpt. Might as well build the treasury a little bit.
2) 3950 BC- Worker starts road.
3) 3900 BC- ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz
4) 3850 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
5) 3800 BC- Worker builds road, starts mine. Added commerce gives break to our economy. Science upped to 90 percent, knocking off 6 turns from the Alphabet. Net income now ZERO.
6) 3750 BC- Entremont builds warrior, starts another. The exploration begins, northwards.
7) 3700 BC- Exploration
8) 3650 BC- Entremont grows. Exploration.
9) 3600 BC- Exploration.
10) 3550 BC- Exploration
11) 3500 Bc- Entremont Culture Expands. Entremont builds warrior, fortifies in towne, starts another. Worker completes road, moves to next tile. Exploration.
12) 3450 BC- Worker starts road. More Exploration.
13) 3400 BC- Exploration
14) 3350 BC- Entremont completes warrior, begins settler. Exlporation.
15) 3300 BC- Worker completes road, starts mine.
15) 3250 BC- Exploration
16) 3200 BC- Entremont grows to size 3. Exploration
17) 3150 BC- Exploration
18) 3100 BC- Exploration
19) 3050 BC- Entremont builds Settler. Settler and one warrior head northwest. Entremont starts granary. Exploration, goodhut spotted!
20) 3000 BC- Worker completes mine, heads to new tile. Settler/Warrior heads NW. Exploration.
WOW! It's a jungle out there!!!! We're going to need a ton of workers. The way I see it, we can head the settler North, 2 tiles direct, and settle right on top of the Dyes, or you can put 'em. West/SW on the coast near the goodyhut. I don't see it making much difference, except quick access to the Dyes may be very helpful. The bad news is the terrain, the good news, so far, no very close neighbors. The bad news, our capital is at an off-center location, the good news is, at least it has some productive grassland.
Goals for this session:
goals for this session: 1.) Make a city 2.) Explore 3.) Find a good site for a second city.
Goals completed. Sort of. There really is not good site in proximity to Entremont for that second city. We'll make due with what we have.
Alphabet in 24 turns. 28 gp in treasury. net loss 1 gpt.
Take her away!

I think I actually had one of my best Monarch wins with the Celts - really pumped out the culture quickly - but you have to use the Gallic Swordsman to conquer and use your golden age to pump out as many forces as possible - sets you up nicely for the middle ages (and cathedrals) if all goes well. Not sure if that strategy will be possible in this game... ---------------- Ok, let's get this show on the road! Goals for this session: A.) Build Second City B.) Explore C.) Crank out a worker or two (it's a jungle out there, remember) 1.) 2950BC - Settler and warrior move north towards dyes. Other warrior heads for goody hut - pray for a miracle! 2.) 2900BC - We disturbed a Hun Barbarian village! Doh! Settler and warrior move north, into place to build a city next turn. Proximity to the river will be a great help. Worker builds road. 3.) 2850BC - Our warrior kills a barb warrior. I spy an enemy border (possibly off-yellow, hard to tell) in the fog across the sea. Alesia founded, starts building warrior - so we can continue the exploration. 4.) 2800BC - Huns are heading for our capital!! 5.) 2750BC - Road completed, worker starts a mine. Warrior in the west now exploring, in the hope Entremont can defend itself. 6.) 2710BC - Huns decide to fortify one tile west of Entremont. 7.) 2670BC - Huns retreat west for no reason. 8.) 2630BC - Huns move back east. Our explorer spots another barb warrior in the northwest. 9.) 2590BC - Exploring... 10.) 2550BC - Exploring... spot a barb camp in the NW. 11.) 2510BC - Worker completes mine south of Entremont. Will head him north to start the arduous task of trying to join up our two citices. Explorer spies an orange border in the far NW. 12.) 2470BC - Exploring... 13.) 2430BC - Entremont builds Granary, changed to Spearman - we will need an escort if we want another settler out there! Alesia Builds warrior, he can be our scout, change production to worker. Alesia's new warrior attacks a barb outside Alesia, and becomes a veteran. Explorer strolls past an erupted volcano in the NW - lots of pollution around. 14.) 2390BC - We discover Alphabet... tough choice of what's next. I choose masonry. Horses are gonna be pretty useless here so not too worried about heading that direction at the moment. 17 turns... Discover London in the far NW. Also meet an English warrior near Alesia. I call Bessy using the trusty art of paper cups on string... England has Masonry and Warrior Code. She won't trade any techs with me, but I sell her Ceremonial Burial for 70GP, because no doubt she could get that from someone else pretty soon. We have a cup of tea, and I am on my way... I ramp up the Science rate to 100%, since we are in the money at the moment. Bessy asks us to remove our forces from her land. We agree. 15.) 2350BC - We move warrior out of English land. 16.) 2310BC - Exploring... 17.) 2270BC - Entremont builds Spearman. We start on a settler. 18.) 2230BC - Exploring... 19.) 2190BC - Exploring... 20.) 2150BC - Meet a Japanese warrior. We trade Alphabet + 50gp for The Wheel. Very interesting map. We are going to need to expand and take a lot of the jungle and marsh. With a lot of worker effort this could be very productive land!
We are already behind in tech, in the future we will be able to trade our dyes and gems for stuff, but for now we will have to make do and play nice. My thoughts would be to expand west as far as the horses, and try and claim as much of 'our' peninsula as possible. We nearly have a settler ready in Entremont. Probs after that get a temple built to keep the people happy then just pump out the settlers, workers and spearmen from the captial. Our warrior in the NE could defend a new city if necessary. Will take him too long to head West to explore. Possibly garrison him in Alesia. Our warrior in the NW should head SW past the horses and see if we can discover who the civ is in the SW. Anyway, enough thoughts... Goals for this session: A.) Build Second City - Done B.) Explore - Done C.) Crank out a worker or two (it's a jungle out there, remember) - Didn't get as many because of the barbs out there. We need to start building more soon though I think. Masonry in 8 turns. 48GP, -1 gpt. We are at the end of 2150BC, away you go!

Yeah Psweet, we've got our work cut out for us!
Start: 2150 BC
We have met England and Japan. We are behind both in technology!
Masonry in 8 turns. 48 gp in the bank. -1 gpt. 100 percent science.
goals for this session: 1.) Expando our borders to the Horses in the West 2.) Further Explore 3.) Swing Swing Chop Chop.
1) 2110 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
2) 2070 BC- Settler built in Entremont. Spearman next then Temple. Settler and Warrior head North. Unfortunately, disease has killed citizenry of Alesia, delaying worker production by 5 turns.
3) 2030 BC- two warriors west of Entremont head further west. Horses discovered in far north/northeast by the exploring warrior.
4) 1990 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
5) 1950 BC- Exploring
6) 1910 BC- Entremont builds sperman which fortifies, starts temple.
7) 1870 BC- Alesia builds worker, starts another. Worker sent to assist the other.
8) 1830 BC- Exploration. Contact with Dutch made in the West. They will not trade us Iron Working for ANYTHING, but will trade us Warrior Code and 25 gp for our knowledge of the Wheel. We accept. Science set to 10 percent with forthcoming mastery of Masonry. We get a whopping 7 gp next turn.
9) 1790 BC- Discovery of Masonry. Iron Working is next. We need to see NOW if we'll be able to readily rely upon our UU. Science reset to 100 percent. Iron Working in 21 turns with a net loss of 2 gpt. Lugdunum founded in west. This knocks off 4 turns from Iron Working to 17 turns and decreases our net loss to 1 gpt. Lugdunum, protected by warrior immediately starts a worker.
10) 1750 BC- Exploration
11) 1725 BC Entremont builds Temple, starts Archer.
12) 1700 BC- Ducth asks us to leave their territory. We pull back. Sadly, Warrior destroyed in Lugdunum by barb conscript! City ransacked for 23 gp. Vet warrior sent over from Alesia. .
13) 1675 BC- Second Barb warrior ransacks Lugdunum for 14 gpt. Afterwards, Our Vet Warrior arrives. Hooray!
14) 1650 BC- Entremont completes archer, which heads to Alesia. Starts Spearman. Workers clear jungle, start road north of Entremont.
15) 1625 BC- Entremont borders expand. We now have Gems in our territory.
16) 1600 BC- Workers complete road N of Entremont, head NW.
17) 1575 BC- Entremont completes Spearman, which fortifies; starts settler. Alesia completes worker, which joins two workers SE of Alesia in clearing jungle. Aleasia begins temple.
18) 1550 BC- England defines our northern border with Hastings, south of the Volcano. Let us pray to the Volcano gods to soon erupt!
19) 1525 BC- Lugdunum completes worker, which heads west to begin slow process of clearing the jungle. Lugdunum begins the warrior, for better defense of city.
20) 1500 BC- Lugdunum worker begins clearing forrest. British warrior approaches her.
Alright, not much doing here. Got us some more workers, and built up the military a little bit. I was hoping we could get our next city up north along the river near the mountains, but Hastings eliminates that option. We can still secure the extra Dye up there if you'd like, but as we're soon getting Iron Working, that could well dictate where our next city goes. Hopefully it's not in the mountains near the marsh in the east, as while jungle can be settled in, marsh must be first cleared before being settled, if I recall correctly. We'll see. Feel free to change production in our cities as you see fit. Assuming we don't need to pull our workers to clear marsh for our next city, we should be able to clear the jungle, build road, and perhaps even road the dyes and connect our cities.
Goals for this session:
goals for this session: 1.) Expando our borders to the Horses in the West 2.) Further Explore 3.) Swing Swing Chop Chop.
Goals accomplished. Not very lofty goals, but we have our city near the horses, we've discovered more horses up north a bit, and we are currently exploring in the far west. And we now have 4 workers busy hacking away at the jungle. 3 in between Alesia and Entremont and 1 in between Alesia and Lugdunum.
Iron Working in 5 turns. 14 gp in treasury. net loss 2 gpt.
Take her away!

It's gonna be a toughie whatever I do!! Oh well, let's get this one going!! Starting from the end of 1500BC... Goals for this session: A.) Build Another City B.) Clear some land and build some roads to connect things up C.) Secure some Iron (if possible!!) D.) Get the culture up a bit with temples (we need the borders) ----
1.) 1475BC - zzzz 2.) 1450BC - Entremont builds settler, I get it building another one (we need the land!!) Settler will head north for the Bananas! 3.) 1425BC - Settler heads north. Warrior explores around Dutch borders. 4.) 1400BC - Ditto... We discover Iron Working, change to writing Iron spotted to the south of Lugdunum, also to the north west of the same city. Will get the second settler (when built) heading to secure it! Also some in the east. 5.) 1375BC - Tax rate changed to 2.8.0 to break even. Writing will take 22 turns. Settler heads north. Warrior explores around Dutch borders. 6.) 1350BC - Entremont builds settler. Start cranking out a spearman. One worker starts building a road where jungle has been cleared south of Alesia. Other two move north to clear the last piece of jungle - then we can link Alesia up to the capital. 7.) 1325BC - Moving settlers into position. Workers start clearing jungle by Alesia. 8.) 1300BC - Camulodunum founded in the north, starts building Temple. Lots of foreign warriors roaming around is a worry. 9.) 1275BC - Lugdunum builds warrior, Starts building Temple. Richborough founded between Lugdunum and Entremont, starts building Temple. 10.) 1250BC - Entremont builds spearman. Another settler to be built... 11.) 1225BC - zzzz 12.) 1200BC - zzzz 13.) 1175BC - zzzz 14.) 1150BC - Entremont builds settler, change to spearman. Settler heading to the north east to settle in the lone patch of jungle. 15.) 1125BC - One worker heading west to start linking up to Richborough, Lugdunum and Iron. Settler heads to the north east. Japanese City Of Kyoto completes the Pyramids 16.) 1100BC - Warrior in Dutch land had to be disbanded as I could not get him back without annoying the Dutch... 17.) 1075BC - zzzz 18.) 1050BC - Entremont builds spearman, starts on barracks. 19.) 1025BC - Workers building final road linkage to Alesia. Arab city of Mecca completes the Oracle 20.) 1000BC - Verulamium founded, starts building Temple. ----- Well, that's it for this session. Goals for this session: A.) Build Another City - Done - 3 new cities! B.) Clear some land and build some roads to connect things up - Slow going... C.) Secure some Iron (if possible!!) - Looking good! D.) Get the culture up a bit with temples (we need the borders) - Started construction Hmm... all I can suggest for the next session is get hold of that Iron and clear more land. I think we will need to get moving with some conquest soon, before the AI gets too far ahead. Maybe if we can beat one back they will give us some techs.
The terrain is a pain, as it has stunted us further. Writing in 3 turns. 15GP, +2 gpt.
We are at the end of 1000BC, over to you!

Start: 1000 BC
We have met England, Netherlands and Japan. We are behind all in technology two or three techonologies!
Writing in 3 turns. 15 gp in the bank. 2 gpt. 80 percent science.
goals for this session: 1.) Make more workers, and clear more jungles. 2) Build another city or two. 3) Build up military 4) Corral the Iron.
1) 975 BC- Alesia builds Temple, starts worker.
2) 950 BC- William demands 17gp. We give in, for his intentions were clear. England and Dutch establish embassies in our capital. Good!
3) 900 BC- Richborough completes Temple, starts worker.
4) 875 BC- Alesia builds worker, starts Spearman.
5) 850 BC- Dutch complete great lighthouse. Entremont completes Archer starts Spear.
6) 825 BC- Zulu tribe completes Colossus.
7) 800 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
8) 775 BC- Aztecs complete Great Wall. Richborough completes Worker, starts another. Entremont completes Spear, starts Settler.
9) 750 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
10) 730 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzz
11) 710 BC- Alesia builds spear. Starts Worker.
12) 690 BC- ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz
13) 670 BC- Entremont builds Settler, starts worker.
14) 650 BC- Japan demands 20 gp. Seeing as we do not know where Japan is, we call their bluff. Philosophy next turn, science set to 10 percent. 18 gp next turn.
15) 630 BC- Entremont and Alesia build workers. Entremont starts Archer, Alesia starts barracks. Philosophy discovered. Mathematics started. Science reset to 80 percent. 15 turns.
16) 610 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
17) 590 BC- Camolodunum builds Temple, starts worker.
18) 570 BC- Gergovia founded on Dyes. Richborough completes worker, starts another. Entremont completes Archer, starts Spearman. Lugdunum completes temple, starts worker.
19) 550 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
20) 530 BC- At long last, our Iron is hooked up. Huzzah!!! Production in Entremont changed from Spear to Gallic Sword.
goals for this session: 1.) Make more workers, and clear more jungles. 2) Build another city or two. 3) Build up military 4) Corral the Iron.
1). To some extent, yes. We're making progress.
2). We have one more city, I had intended to build another settler soon in Entremont. The way I see it we have two more sites to settle. The Horses in the Far NE. and the Swampland directly 2 tiles E of our team of workers currently NE of Entremont. There of three of them there, and it takes them 6 turns to clear each marsh.
3.) to put it mildly, yes, more archers and spearmen were built this session.
4.) Accomplished. Let the fun begin.
I think going after Philosophy was ill advised. We're desperately behind in technologies. My thinking with maths is that I've noticed that AI tend to leave behind Currency, and so if we could grab that first and trade it, to catch up a bit. The AI also tends to neglect Literature, so we could go that route too. However, it could well be we're soo far behind it doesn't matter.
Regardless, we're now in a position to build up our military and make a run at England or Holland.
Mathematics in 8 turns. Science at 80 percent. 0 gpt. 47 gp in treasury.
Take her away!
(nothing new to show, really)
