Managed to get some time on this one before I go back to work...

Continuing onwards from 530BC...

Goals for this session:

A.) Continue the clearance!
B.) Build up the military
C.) Settle at least one of the final two spots LC suggested...

-----

1.) 510BC - Well, the Egyptians have appeared out of nowhere on the north of the land and look like they will settle on/near the horses.

Trade with Egypt - We get Maths + 50 GP for Philosophy
Cannot trade with anyone else... - go for Currency (28 turns)
Change tax to 100% science, now 21 turns! 7gpt loss.

Egypt founds El-Amarna in the north.

2.) 490BC - zzzzzz

3.) 470BC - Entremont builds Gallic Swordsman, heading north west. Change to Settler.

Japanese City of Edo completes the Mausoleum of Mausollos

4.) 450BC - Gallic Swordsman heading towards Gergovia, I think we will have to take on England, who is weaker...

5.) 430BC - Workers carry on working...

6.) 410BC - zzzz

7.) 390BC - Entremont builds settler. Change to Spearman. Settler heading to the marsh where the workers are clearing a space...

8.) 370BC - zzzz

9.) 350BC - Worker and settler fortify whilst workers finish clearing the marsh. Other cities continue to increase worker numbers.

10.) 330BC - Entremont builds spearman, back to Gallic Swordsman.

11.) 310BC - zzzz

12.) 290BC - zzzz

13.) 270BC - Alesia continues to pump out workers. Going to try and get Gergovia linked up to the road network. Then we can press north from there into English land.

Tax rate changed to 3.7.0, so that we break even.

14.) 250BC - Disease strikes Gergovia....

Augustodurum founded. Starts building temple. Workers aim to link it up to the road network ASAP.

Aztec City of Tenochtitlan completes the Statue of Zeus

15.) 230BC - Entremont continues to build the Gallic Swordsmen...

16.) 210BC - Alesia continues to build workers...

17.) 190BC - zzzz

18.) 170BC - Richborough now has some clear land with road. Building mines, then the workers can head elsewhere.

19.) 150BC - Alesia builds yet another worker...

20.) 130BC - zzzzzz

-----

Another one over...

Goals for this session:

A.) Continue the clearance! - yes, there are more workers, and more jungle/marsh cleared
B.) Build up the military - two Gallic Swordsmen in Gergovia, more to be built
C.) Settle at least one of the final two spots LC suggested... - got the one in the SE , but Egyptians in the north!

So, a pretty quiet session again, more building and not much scope for trade. It looks promising that no-one else has currency. It may give us scope to get 1 tech from each civ in exchange - hopefully that will give us 4 techs and be a bit closer.

We may need to consider starting to link up our spare luxuries - we may need to trade them to get more techs in the future.

If all else fails, I suggest we get cracking and push back the English. As the weakest, they are our best hope for conquest.

Currency in 5 turns. 15GP, +1 gpt.

We are at the end of 130BC, back to you!

Well...maybe going after Philosophy wasn't such a bad idea after all!

Start: 130 BC

We have met England, Egypt, Netherlands and Japan. We are behind all in technology big time.

The way I see it, as you have rightfully pointed out our best chance for war is with England. Even though we have a disadvantage with the jundle we've found ourselves in, I believe that the fact we are facing a bottle neck against both England and Netherlands means we could possible dictate the terms of war as far as the active front is concerned. So we go after England, sue for peace, hopefully get some technology as kickback, and then kick Egypt off out little subcontinent.

Currency in 5 turns. 15 gp in the bank. 1 gpt. 70 percent science.

goals for this session: 1.) Make more workers, and clear more jungles, build up national infrastructure. 2) Currency Technology Cascade 3) Attempt to establish Dutch as trading partners. 4).Build up military, prepare if not initiate war with England.

1) 110 BC- Ent. builds Gallic Sword, set to produce another in 6 turns. Our military is maxed out, meaning future builds will impact our bottom line . War must be soon.

2) 90 BC - Zzzzzzzzzzzz

3) 70 BC- Alesia builds worker, starts another. Ludgdunum builds barracks, starts spear. We're now in the red.

4) 50 BC- Science set to 20 percent in anticipation of Currency. Still no AI has it yet. Show me the money!!!!

5) 30 BC- Wahoooooooo!!! Currency is ours. And no one else has it yet. Whoooooooosh goes the windfall. The best deal we can get is:

Japan: Code of Laws, Map Making, 1gpt, 80gp. Love the gpt deal, especially that we don't know of their location. I don't hesitate to pull the trigger. then

England: (for Currency) Horseback and Mysticism and 33gp. Whoooooosh.
Dutch: (for Currency) Polytheism and 7gp.
Egypt: (for Currency and Polytheism and 90gp) Construction
England: (for Polytheism) 150 gp.

Look at that. We're into the Middle Ages. However, I am going to pursue Literature as none of the AI have it yet. Perhaps we can swing the Great Library, and not have to worry about Science for a while. science set to 80 percent. Lit in 14 turns. I will be monitoring the AI closely on this issue.

6) 10 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

7) 10 AD- Ent. builds Gallic Sword. Starts another. Alesia builds worker, starts another.

8) 30 AD- Richborough builds Barracks, starts Galley. We gotta see what else is outthere. Gregovia builds Temple, starts Marketplace.

9) 50 AD- Augustodorum builds Temple, starts Galley. Might as well have two. Worker completes road from Lugdunum to Arnhem, northern most Dutch city. Unfortunately this does not result in an active trade network.

10) 70 AD- Arabs complete Temple of Artemis. Japan and Dutch are building the Hanging Gardens, meaning Monarchy is outthere. Perhaps a Celtic Kingdom is in order.

*** Mid Session Report: Japan and Dutch have Monarch and Republic. England has Republic. We are even with Egypt. There are no Active trade routes available. Our Military is weak compared to everyone except England, which it is comparable. We're running a deficit of 7 gpt loss, but will have Literature in 8 turns. As you were***

11) 90 AD- Dutch builds Hanging Gardens. That was FAST!

12) 110 AD- Entremont builds Gallic Sword, starts Colosseum as prebuild for Great Library. Alesia builds worker. I think we're fine there. Starts Spearman. Lugdunum builds Spearman, starts Gallic Sword.

13) 130 AD- ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

14) 150 AD- Richborough builds Galley, starts Gallic Swordsmen. Wahooooo! We trade our Dyes to Egypt for Silk straight up!!! Our people rejoice! We trade our Dyes to Dutch for 2gpt, 20 gp and ROP that we may pass through their lands with our Galley. Huzzah!!! Even better news, Japan and England do not have Iron. I think if we can get our extra Iron hooked up we can sell it to Japan for a fair sum.

15) 170 AD- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

16) 190 AD- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

17) 210 AD- Science set to 50 percent to a net income of 0gpt! in anticipation of the Literature. Our advisors tell us no one yet has Lit. I know based upon past experience that when we get Lit, and none of the AI have it they start to get testy and demand it. Hopefully our military is strong enough that this will not happen.

18) 230 AD- Literature discovered. Start on Feudalism. Actually, as Feudalism will take 43 turns to complete and we can obtain the GL in 31 turns, I set science to Zero, that we may rake in the cash. If you do not agree with this tactic, we'll have only wasted two turns and you can change production in Ent. to a library or marketplace, with no waster turns. Cheers. We're now netting 22gpt.

19) 250 AD- Alecia builds Spearman, starts Archer. Augustodurum builds Galley, starts Library. Our workers hook up additional Iron source. Japan won't give us technology for it, but we do get 3gpt and 17gp. Not much I know, but perhaps next time, we get more for it. It's better than letting it sit around.

20) 260 AD- Hahahahahhahahahaah, boy do I feel silly. SOme foreign strange tribe called Greece has built the Great Library. Whooooooooopie. There goes that Idea. We can now get a Marketplace in 2 turns, a Library in next turn with only 6 wasted shields or a Colloseum in 4 turns. I'll let you decide. And I'll let you deal with our Science rate. I'd suggest moving it up. Lugdunum builds Gallic Swords, starts another.

goals for this session: 1.) Make more workers, and clear more jungles, build up national infrastructure. 2) Currency Technology Cascade 3) Attempt to establish Dutch as trading partners. 4).Build up military, prepare if not initiate war with England

1) Yes, we're doing fine there. Things are progressing nicely B)
2) Indeed, Indeed. We're practically all caught up now, for the time being.
3) Mhmmmm, We're actively trading with not only the Dutch, but the Egyptians and Japanes as well. As a result our neighbors think highly of us!
4) Well, we have 7 Gallic Swords. Just a couple more and we're ready to take on England.

Quite a monumental session, I must say. The Great Library blunder only cost us a couple turns research. So what! Military adviser tells us we have a stron military with regards to England. A few more Gallic, and we should be good to go, with a golden age to boot. I'd say get the building you plan on building in Entremont, return to military production and pull the trigger. Things are looking up here.

Feudalism in ----- turns. Science at 0 percent. 25gpt. 209 gp in treasury.

Take her away!

Look! The Dutch aren't so Big and Tough!

Dave, I just checked, and our friends the Japanese will give us 17 gpt for Literature. Given that GL has already been built, that may be an offer we cannot refuse.

Continuing onwards from 260AD...

Goals for this session:

A.) Start attacking England
B.) Keep our trading with other nations going
C.) Continue improving our nation

-----

Before the first move, time to set a few things.

Happy for Entremont to finish a Marketplace...
Trade with Japan - We give Literature, they give 19gpt
Okay, our science rate is a big issue here, set to 90% science, we are getting +4gpt, with Feudalism in 31 turns!! This will be a big problem soon...

1.) 270AD - zzzzz

2.) 280AD - Entremont Builds Marketplace, change to library - we need the science!!
Richborough produces another Gallic Swordsman... keep churning them out! Off he goes to Gergovia...

3.) 290AD - Camulodunum builds barracks, another library here please.

4.) 300AD - Put science up to 100%, loss of 1gpt, 1 turn less on the research... man this sucks

5.) 310AD - zzzz

6.) 320AD - zzzz

7.) 330AD - zzzz (really not much going on other than worker actions and trireme exploring...)

8.) 340AD - zzzz

9.) 350AD - Alesia builds Gallic Swordsman, change to Library...
Lugdunum builds Gallic Swordsman, and starts another...
Both head to Gergovia. One more to complete next turn, then we will head for England!

10.) 360AD - Entremont builds library, change to Coloseum
Richborough builds Gallic Swordsman, who heads to Gergovia. change to spearman.
Verulamium builds barracks, change to spearman

11.) 370AD - 10 gallic swordsmen (GS) leave Gergovia to march on Hastings

12.) 380AD - We enter English territory...

Elizabeth asks us to leave, we declare WAR!! Here goes nothing...

13.) 390AD - Richborough builds spearman. This city will serve to help send defence to the front...

We start attack on Hastings, our Civ enters a golden age!!! Shame we're in Despotism, but nothing can be done about that yet... will have to wait until after this Golden age for Government change (when we actually discover one!!)

We capture Hastings with no loss - it only took 3GS. 2GS posted in city, the rest (who have not moved yet) head for Canterbury. Captured workers set to work...

Sending our Trireme through English waters shows us Japan can be found on the other side of London...

Looks like Egypt might be sending a land force through to attach the Netherlands...

14.) 400AD - We capture Canterbury, losing 1GS. The rest get stationed in the city.
With a bit of rest, it looks like we may be able to send about 5 or 6 GS forward for London. Captured workers get busy linking up our gains to our other cities.

Our trade with the Dutch ends...
Our trade with Egypt ends...

Egypt declares war on Dutch!! Egyptian Swordsmen capture Arnhem

Aztec City of Tenochtitlan builds Sun Tzu's Art Of War
Greek City of Corinth builds Knights Templar

15.) 410AD - Richborough builds Spearman - keep on building
Verulamium builds Spearman, now builds Marketplace

We kill an English spearman who had been dropped off by Canterbury.

We cannot trade luxury items with Egypt, I assume because of their war with the Dutch - must have blocked their sea route?
Similar reasons for the Dutch.

16.) 420AD - Lugdunum builds GS, keep on building them!

England sues for peace, but they won't give us anything in return - I refuse!
Egyptians appear to have the upper hand so far against the Dutch.

17.) 430AD - We manage to send 8GS into English territory...

Note: there is a bit of land West of Hastings, North of Arnhem, covered in Marsh. If we could clear it we could build a new city there - something to consider in the future.

English forces bypass our GS, and move to the Volcano - think they're after Canterbury...

18.) 440AD - 8GS now one square away from London...

English "Volcano Warriors" attack spearmen in Hastings and suffer a crushing defeat... hehe

19.) 450AD - Entremont builds Coloseum, changes to Gallic Swordsman
Alesia builds Library, changes to Marketplace

We capture London!!! (lost only 1GS, 7GS stationed in London for defence)

Dutch offer alliance against Egypt - we refuse, don't think we're in any place to declare war on Egypt!!

We discover Feudalism, Change to Monotheism (14 turns)

20). 460AD - Lugdunum produces Medieval Infantry - looks like it Auto changed our production from GS. Change to library.
We'll leave the MI here I think.
Gergovia produces Marketplace, change to barracks.

Our cushy trade deal with Japan has ended! Damn!

------

And so ends this session.

Goals:

A.) Start attacking England - a highly successful campaign of 3 cities captured
B.) Keep our trading with other nations going - no-one want to trade with me, or can't due to the Egypt/Dutch war
C.) Continue improving our nation - More road routes and clearing of land

Not too shabby this session I think!

My big concern is that we need new government, and fast. The great thing with the Religious trait is that it will be a quick change. Our golden age has a while to go yet, I think about another 10 turns. you might want to wait that out before changing to Feudalism at the very least.

Trading is a right pain, no-one wants to or can trade. Hopefully once the Egypt/Dutch thing is done we can pick up some trading partners again.

Note the spot South of London, West of Hastings, north of Arnhem with the Marsh and fish. This could be a good future city site with clearing...

See what you can get out of Elizabeth, we're still at war...

I'll leave the rest to you mate...

Monotheism in 12 turns. 144GP, -30 gpt.

We are at the end of 460AD, off you go!

Very Good! I'll see what I can do.

My CD-Rom drive is on the fritz. It will play Audo-CDs half the time but it isn't playing any CD-ROMS (such as civ).

When it doesn't play whatever is in the slot (audio or CD-ROM) it doesn't even recognize there being anything there).

I may have to replace it, which would not happen until this next weekend.

I wouldn't get around to playing this game then anyways.

Start: 460 AD

We have met England, Egypt, Netherlands and Japan. We are behind The Netherlands and

Japan in technology but ahead of Egypt. No deals can be swung at this time.

Science lowered from 100 percent to 70 percent to make up for our huge deficit.

Monotheism now in 17 turns. 144gp in the bank. 2 gpt. 70 percent science.

goals for this session: 1.) Eliminate the Brits! 2) Revitalize our Economy (Libraries, Markets, Aqueducts, Harbors) 3) Re-establish Foreign Trade Routes. 4) More Workers- Clear Jungle. 5). New City West of Hastings, N of Arnhem on Peninsula.

1) 470 AD- Augustodurum builds Library. Starts Harbour, she needs to grow. England drops of warrior north of London. We squash 'em with a Elite GS. Unfortunately no Great Leader! 9 GS in London. Will send 7 out as soon as they are all healed.

2) 480 AD - Ent builds Med. Inf. Starts Pike. Richborough builds Pike, starts Harbour.

3) 490 AD- England drops off spear near London. It takes two GS to beat 'em down, but fortunately, we do not fully loose any, i.e. first attacker retreats. 7 GS move on York, led by Elite Squadron.

4) 500 AD- Entremont builds Pike, starts another. Assault on York commences- Ever notice a bias for the Elite units to take undue amount of damage? We capture York easily, with no losses, but our Elite unit was forced to retreat, losing 4/5 HP while inflicting NO damage! All units sent in to allow for recovery.
Two captured workers sent to penisnula to clean up marshlands.

5) 510 AD- Camulodunum builds Library, starts Aqueduct. She yearns to Grow!!! Our forces heal in York. It seems maybe Egypt homeland has been discovered NW of Japan. Still no trade possibilities with our neighbours.

6) 520 AD- Ent. builds pike, starts another. Gergovia builds Barracks, starts Med. Inf. We've built the barracks for a reason after all! Japanese are building the Sistine Chapel.

7) 530 AD- Japan is building Leo's Workshop. Boy, we are falling behind in Tech. Still cannot swing any deals with Egypt. In a monumental event, the road, 1N of Gregovia has been completed, linking the North with the South! Forces fully healed in York. As soon as Pikeman arrives in London, next turn, freeing up GS stationed there, march on Nottingham will begin.

8) 540 AD- Ho-Hum. England and Netherlands sign alliance against Egypt.
Ent. builds pike, starts one more. Alesia build Marketplace, starts worker. Lugdunum builds Library, starts aqueduct. She needs to grow. Pikemen to London delayed 1 turn due to damn Mercenary on bottleneck.

9) 550 AD- Alesia builds worker, starts Med. Inf. Richborough builds Harbour, starts Marketplace. March on Nottingham begins. We're going to have to delay attack though to carefully maneuver and avoid attacking across the Nottingham River. Finally, we can again trade with Dutch, Japan and Egypt, however they have nothing to offer. Huzzah!!! Japan will not give us anything for Iron, but Dutch will give us 31 gpt! Hooray!!!
Will also give us 7gpt for Dyes. Science upped to 100 percent, killing our surplus, but knocking 2 turns off Monotheism.

10) 560 AD- Holy Cow!!!! We observe Egypt Swordsmen attacking Nottingham, but they attack across river and as such, perrish. Ent. builds pike, starts settler. Hastings builds barracks, starts Library. Verulamium builds Marketplace, starts Aqueduct. Gregovia builds Horseman (funny, I don't recall instructing that), starts Courthouse. We're set to attack Nottingham next turn, if Egypt doesn't take it first (1 Swordsman in place).

*** Mid Session Report: Japan has at least Republic, Monarchy, Engineering and Monotheism, but lacks Iron. The Dutch have the same technologies, but have Iron, thanks to us. We are up Literature and Feudalism on Egypt. All of our known neighbours are Republics exect Egypt, which is Despotism, like us. Our Military is weak compared to Egypt, strong compared to Japan and England, and average compared to Dutch. We're running a deficit of 5 gpt loss at 100 percent Science, but will have Monotheism in 3 turns, pending the end of our Golden Age.

Carry On!***

11) 570 AD- Nottingham spear holds off Egypt Assault. Celtic Assault begins. Nottingham easily taken. 3 defending spears slaughtered. No losses. English Destroyed! Sorry Dave! 6 more slaves captured!

12) 580 AD- Monotheism next turn!!! Entremont builds settler. Starts Pikeman. Time to beef up national defenses, across the board!

13) 590 AD- Monotheism revealed. Starts Theology. Alesia builds Med. Inf., starts pike! Lugdunum builds Aqueduct, starts Marketplace. Canterbury builds barracks, starts library. Augustodorum builds Harbor, starts worker.

14) 600 AD- It would appear our Golden Age has ended! Science maintained at 100 percent.
Ent. builds pike, starts another. Camulodunum builds Aqueduct, starts Worker. Revolution to establish a Feudal society has begin. Order will be restored in 2 turns.

15) 610 AD- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

16) 620 AD- Feudal society established. Science maintained at 100 percent, with -6gpt, Theology in 11 turns, thanks to the Dutch Iron monies.

17) 630 AD- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

18) 640 AD- Camulodunum builds worker, starts market. Augustodurum builds worker, starts market. Our ships have circumnavigated the continent. I am going to send them out to see what they can see!

19) 650 AD- Entremont builds pike, starts another. Alesia builds pike, starts another. Verulamium builds aqueduct, starts library.

20) 660 AD- York builds Temple, starts courthouse. Zulu completes Sistine Chapel, and we're still 7 turns away from the Theology! We lose one Galley at see. Oh well!!!

Our settler has arrived onsite the peninsula, due to heavy Egypt traffic in the area I couldn't get our slaves down there fast enough, but they will have completed the draining of the wetlands in about 10 turns. I just now sent an elite Spear and one GS over there to protect them, but they seem to be doing fine on their own.

goals for this session: 1.) Eliminate the Brits! 2) Revitalize our Economy (Libraries, Markets, Aqueducts, Harbors) 3) Re-establish Foreign Trade Routes. 4) More Workers- Clear Jungle. 5). New City West of Hastings, N of Arnhem on Peninsula.

1) Mission Accomplished.
2) To some degree, yes. A few aqueducts built, as well as libraries and marketplaces and harbors, but the main enabler is the 31 gpt coming in from the Dutch for the Iron. That deal was made on turn 9, so you should have half a go with it. Lets try and re-up
3) As mentioned above, yes, that has been done, although our neighbours have nothing to offer us. We must traverse uncharted waters to discover new friends to trade with.
4) Slow and Steady.
5) 10 turns and counting.

Even managed to establish a new government, although as our townes grow to cities, we will have a difficult time maintaining a large army. A lot of this depends on if we can keep the Iron monies coming in. It may be in our best interests now to Bee-Line it to democracy. The added revenues will support our armies better than Feudalism can, and we should be able to wage small-scale wars on Japan or Dutch. Given their size, that should be all that is necessary.

I do with Dutch and Egypt would make peace, for the love of God!!! They are getting in the way of our progess!!!

Theology in 7 turns. Science at 0 percent. 100gpt. 245 gp in treasury.

Take her away!
