Errrrr..., maybe they don't believe in them?   *runs*

I'm not sure what nerve I hit there Rabi, but look again..., I said "almost". I didn't say they were one.  My Pa. Dutch Grandmother is more German than Dutch.  But the two have crossed lines since settling in Pa.

In fact, Owl, the peoples, legend has it, were so confused by the two, that when the folks from that part of the world, many Amish, settled in the region they were commonly referred as "Pennsylvania Dutch" even though they were really German!

Well, I think there is maybe a bit of confusion here. Language and culture are closely linked, but are not the same thing. Nationality and ethnicity also are two different things.

"German" could be a reference to the language, the culture, the nationality, or the 'ethnicity.' And in fact all of which are probably meaningfully divisible into important sub-sets. Same with Dutch I would think.

So I was not asking, nor implying that Dutch and German are equivalent cultures, nationalities, ethnicities, people, or places. But the languages are rather similar no?

Also, I know from having lusted for a Danish social worker girl I went with in Botswana all those years ago (least this is what she told me. . .) the languages of Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish are all fairly similar, not exactly the same--they ARE different languages, not just dialects (sort of like Spanish, Italian, and Latin), but nonetheless there are many shared cognates, and they are pretty much mutually intelligible (unless somebody intentionally speaks fast, or uses obscure language).

That is a shame if Atheists are being biased against. Maybe you guys should have a crusade and burn religious people at the stake or something?

Yes, but where does that leave the USA, which has been described as a state without a nation (in contrast to the Kurdish peoples, which is a nation, without a state), and thus no specific ethnicity to speak of??????

It defies convention, that is for sure!!!!

And just to keep this thread somewhat on topic (Riiiiiiiiiight), we do love our religion here!!!!

The topic is "So....."

...which I think, pretty much leaves it open to anything!

-But in the description is also says "Fire & Brimstone," which narrows the field to combustion and sulfur. Let's discuss sulfur.

Sulfur? I don't know too much about that thing.... Isn't that what is used to make stink bombs??? It also comes out of the Volcanoes.

So..... Fire and Brimstone.... what if you identify with a religion that doesn't preach fire and brimstone, and doesn't even really have a concept of hell???

I guess we really shouldn't discuss that here, then, should we?
