Game Closed:

Champion: Rishbhav   Score: 10921 in 1975AD

Other Submissions:

Tiger  Score: 6243 in 2023 AD

And So It Begins:

This game is from Vanila CivIV verson 1.61.

Civ: Russians

Leader: Catherine

Difficulty: Warlord with 5 random Rivals

Permanent Alliances Allowed - Modified Assets Locked

Start Position:

Special Victory Conditions

All Victory Conditions have been allowed, but only 1 will be accepted: Space Race

What wonderful fun! Go to war if you wish, but don't get too greedy, or you'll trigger another victory...

Highest Normalized Score in a Space Race victory will be declared GOTM champion.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then PM your final save (hopefully one just before victory) to me. Saves should be named as follows: [username]Nov06GOTM.Civ4SavedGame.

Good Luck

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

  1. Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
  2. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
  3. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
  4. Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Cool, now I've got something to do while I'm waiting for Rish to play his PBEM turns.

Spoiler Text Below - Highlight to See Hidden Text
I'm into the classical era and it's a good position.  I got a free city from the barbs so that was nice.  Lots of resources and luxeries to be had.  I think this thing is going to break out in war soon though.

Nice job, Tiger!  How do you play that so quick?!

Started it last night and got a good start (though keep in mind, my good starts are probably semi-decent ones for others! ).  Anyway, this was the first game I've ever played that I popped a Settler from a goodie hut!

I'm getting ready to go to war for a couple of resources...   I'm having trouble with Health in this game.

Just finished a very successful war against the Inca and I think I have enough cities with high production that I'll be able to do decently.  My focus has been on building up an army so I can grab my neighbor's cities but now I'm shifting to reducing maintainance and unhappiness as well as keeping ahead in the science race.  At some point I'll just go straight to the Apollo project and only research what I need for the win.  Don't have a lot of time to play and next week will be hard with Thanksgiving.  I hope I can finish in time.

@ History Dude - well Im currently out of work, on 'garden leave' so I have a lot of time on my hands.

Killing the Inca was a big part of my game in this one. I wiped them out by 500BC, taking their capital plus their other 2 cities with axemen. Gave me a very good start to the game. Mind you, I got lucky, popping 2 free techs early, one of which was bronze working.

Wasn't able to play the last couple of nights.  Will try to put in an hour or so tonight, but Thursdays are my civ3 nights on-line with a friend in Colorado...

Should still be able to finish before the end of the month, though!
