My score: 10921. I think I did pretty well on this one. Tip: your cossacks are IMHO one of the best units in the game. Use them to control your continent and use those resources for victory.

Is anyone else playing? As it stands now, we will have another first time champ.

I'm somewhat suprised we haven't had a repeat winner yet.

I'm playing but I doubt I will beat Rish's score.  I'm almost sure to win my game but I'm already past Rish's year.

Well I'm now back from Australia, so I'll see if I can complete the game in time.

I threw in the mouse.

I did have a nice start and then I waged a quick war with the Incans, took a couple of their cities and made peace.  Then Rome attacked me, but I had to play defense for a while as his huge army committed suicide against one of the new Incan cities I had just taken.  My Incan invasion force was able to march over in time to meet the Roman threat.  After several turns, his army was pretty much eliminated, but he had weakened mine in the process.  And then the Incans attacked me with about 20 units, retaking the other City.  I had nothing to stop both them and the Romans, and neither would consider peace.  I figured even if I survived, a space race victory was beyond reach...

Ah, I lost.  I'd have won if Rome and the Incans didn't create a permanant alliance and then attack me.  I brought the Inca down to one city but that city was on the other continent.  Not to mention it took away vital science spending while I had to fight them.  I lost the space victory by about 20 turns due to the game ending.  All I had to do was to get the engine finished but I didn't get the final tech researched in time to build it.  Oh well, there's always next month.

The key to a space race victory seems to be early conquest.  In retrospect, I should have focused militarilly early on and wiped out the Inca.  Then build up military again and severely cripple, if not wipe out the Romans.  By this time you'll have so many cities that you should be able to build units on the outer cities while focusing on building up your inner and most productive cities for the ship.  Well, you live and you learn.

Yeah, I axe rushed the Incas and then used my super cossacks to clean up the Romans which gave me a clear rise. (I think the Chinese and the Indians were coming out of the Renaissance when I won)

EDIT: Zone, if you rob me again I don't know what I'll do

This brings up a kind of annoying fact.  Even to get other victories other than conquest/domination, you have to be a warmonger, especially for those higher scores.
