Hi there y'all,

I wondered how to put more city names in the game, because I found it rather stupid that after a while ( when the city list for the different civs is "depleted" ) the same city names again crop up with the prefix "new" attached to them. (Like for instance "New Persepolis" and such...)

Now I have been looking at maps on the internet to add more city names in the Civ3 editor, and it seemed to work in Civ3 all right.

But now I have found that the same thing occurs again when I want to play PTW, which I had recently bought. So I figured "let's copy and paste the custom lists I made in the Civ3 editor in the Civ3X editor and all is done".

But when I want to save the changes in the civ3X.bix file, I get a message that I can't save the changes because it is a read-only file. I didn't have that problem when I wanted to save changes in the regular Civ3Edit in the civ3mod.bic file.

So it cannot be done or am I mistaken ?

Many thanx in advance,

Ovilir

I dont know how to help you considering I only go onto the editor to add a new map, or give me a sneek peek at the enemy troop location. But I agree with you that the names are annyoning because after you get through all the New stuff you go to 2 like Persipolis2 and once you get through that you go to New Persipolis2, after that Im pretty sure that the limit of how many cities you can have kicks in.

Have you tried the Conquests Editor?

I don't have Conquests for the moment. But I think I know how to do it.

You just go to the editor where it says "change rules" and then go to "change civilization" and go to the list with the city names and you add a few to the list and then save the changes as a new *.bix file with a different name than the standard bix rules file.

When you want to play a new game you load this bix file as a scenario and you will be able to play the normal game with the custom city names you added.

I might have an interesting tip for CIV III players who want to add a lot more custom city names:

Basically, it is all about efficient documentation. When you go to wikipedia you can search on specific country information. Say for instance, you want to add more russian cities, you can search for "russia" on wikipedia.

Most countries on wikipedia have a link to "major cities" or even better "all cities by population" and such. If you go there, you can view a list of nearly all cities in a country.

Basically, I copy city names from those lists directly in the CivIII editor, and if you want to play with those in CPTW, you copy the list in the editor directy to the city list in the CPTW editor.
