Game Closed

Champion: Zigeuner Score: 15742 Year: 2050ad

Greetings all, this GOTM submitted by Zigeuner.

Vanilla CivIV Version 1.61

Civ: India with 3 Rivals

With the Future Starting Era, you begin with all techs and a full view of the map and all available resources.

Please note that the "Always War" option is selected. This means there is no such thing as peacetime in this game.

Here are your starting units:

And your starting position:

Your only victory options are Domination and Conquest. Those are the only victory conditions that have been enabled.

The Highest Normalized Score in either of those two victory conditions will be named February GOTM Champion.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then PM your final save (hopefully one just before victory) to me. Saves should be named as follows: [username]FEB2007GOTM.Civ4SavedGame.

Good Luck, the savefile is attached below. Please note the 1760AD Starting year has no bearing as only military victories are allowed. Also, due to the nature of this GOTM, where all of the map/resources are visible, I'll be a participant in this game, as is the games submitter, Zigeuner.

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

  1. Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
  2. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
  3. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
  4. Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

The Highest Normalized Score in either of those two victory conditions will be named February GOTM Champion.
If there's a win in 2304 and another in 2100, who will have the Highest Normalized Score? If it's a toss-up, wouldn't it be more straightforward to just look at the quickest win?

This is doable on Deity so don't be too alarmed by the Emperor difficulty. It's a whole different game...

The player with the Highest Normalized Score will likely be the one with the earliest victory, so I don't know that it matters a great deal what the wording is. I do see what your point it, but I guess I just got used to asking for Highest Normalized.

: shrug :

Hm, I guess I have no idea what those different scores mean, and how they're calculated... Thinking of Civ3 again...

That shouldn't be so much of an issue, I've never played cIV at this level of difficulty, but the main way the difficulty affects you over a game is keeping up in tech. In this game, you have all the techs, so as a human, you should be able to take on the AI easily as it will probably waste some time in some cities building things like Libraries when culture and science is going to make sod all difference in this game.

Next time you're ingame, hold your cursor over your leadername in the diplomacy list on the bottom right side of the game screen. When you do this, you can see what factors are determining your score, and what your final score would be if you won on that turn.
