They don't need the amphibious promotion to attack from the seas, it just means that they will get an attack penalty (around 50% I believe).

*stops building MechInf Marines* Ah, I guess Modern Armor with 3 x collateral is the way to go then...

(Speaking of which, it's a shame there isn't a special ops unit in the late game, like a Marine that gets +100% bonus when attacking off of a ship. Speaking of shame, I wish Transports could be upgraded to carry more units...)

Wow the AI can really crank out the units on Emperor difficulty!

War of Attrition doesn't even begin to describe this... The AI have sorted out who owns the other continent, so just the 3 of us left and I'm struggling to get enough units together to attack whilst still fending off the massed ranks of Mech Inf.

I did not get very far with that one, and since I've decided to sort out my folders for Civ 4 on my D: Drive I can't get Civ4 to work (though strangely Warlords works fine). So I guess I'll be uninstalling, deleting, and then re-installing Civ 4 one day soon. But really, as long as Warlords works I'm prone to just ride with my current set up.

That *does* sound uphill...

In my game I built units for many turns and I now own a tiny town in Aztecia with a ring of Jet Fighters circling it, and such an enormous stack of everything defending that the AI is just never going to get it back. Impossible. No way. Uh-uh.

I made a little progress last night, took another city by sidling round the enemy. Now have to hold onto the city until the culture can expand a tad, then off to do the same again. As I take down the cities, they shouldn't be able to build Mech Infs so fast and It'll get easier. Then I have to crack the Aztecs...

Crud, I made a slight tactical slip up... I was confident I had troops aplenty so I wasn't satisfied to sit the first rush out, oh no, I just had to send a good stack over to take the second town... There was a bloody massacre, and a lot of my veterans perished. Then the onslaught came to my tiny toehold town, and I could barely move enough troops overseas to withstand the pressure. At one point I had one badly battered ModArm and two Artillery holding the fort... Luckily I have plenty of cities that crank out a unit a turn. I *think* the evil empires have expended their reserves and will send small raiding bands from now on, but man, did this suck in all the wrong places...

I think I'm going to be hard-pressed to finish this one in time. Looking forward to play a game from the start again.

I didn't complain about the difficulty level, only about my own neglect and the shortness of the month of February. I played some this weekend though, and Montezuma is broken, his empire reduced to three cities that will rapidly fall before the unstoppable horde of ModArms and Gunships. Spain is pesky but sending everything it's got in little batches, tailormade for slaughter. Victory is sweet. Victory hurts too, man, I hate to diss the best civ ever, but it just plain sucks that I cannot see ALL my units that are in a tile. Show them as unit types instead of individual little units. Having to click through 60 planes to get to the land units is no good...
