Oh, you are looking for an alliance against the computer civs, not necessarily the two humans squaring off against each other. Well, if that is that case, then I would have to recommend a much harder difficulty level than you would normally do. I say that because I am doing an alliance with Tora right now, on Noble or Prince I believe, and we are blowing them out of the water, so much, that it is hardly enjoyable and definitely not a challange. If it is a locked alliance, then you are sharing technologies from the very beginning, and as such build up such a huge tech lead, that you begin to lap the AI civs before the game really even begins. Now if there was a locked alliance from the beginning, and there were also AI alliance teams that may be a different case, but otherwise, ....

are we talking Warlords or Vanilla civ?

If you are up for a third player, I'm interested.  I can play several turns per day, though it should be noted that I will be out of town in a week for a week and a half so perhaps timing isn't great.
