Umm... I suppose I can let the lovebirds comment pass...

With the civ choice, the classical start didn't seem as fitting, so, at the beginning we start...

Caesar's Log, 3640BC: We stumbled across a small group of villagers who gifted us with some very nice coinage. Such a handsome gift. I suspect having a group of warriors march into their village may have had something to do with that. The commander of the troop was careful not to cause any problems or harm anyone. Wise tactic.

The villagers did impart some marvelous news: there are more civilizations beyond the reaches of their maps, civilizations rumored to have untold knowledge and riches. We shall see if those are rumors or nay. My people continue to prosper.

Caesar's Log, 3560BC: One of our roving patrols ran into a very well-armed scout from a far-away civilization and brought him to an audience before me. He informed me that he belongs to a proud warrior culture that call themselves the "Aztecs". His haughty words and covetous appraisal of my audience chamber did not sit well with me. He lacked respect, and thus, he was quickly seen on his way.

I feel uneasy.

3520BC: Jovan Barca, in his continuing service to the vast Carthaginian war machine, has happened on the cultural boundaries of an affable chap named Brennus. He seems to hold no ill will, but his land is enticing, to say the least.....

Caesar's Log, 3520BC: Marcus Quintius, our warrior-scout, has reported meeting an emissary from a land called "China", lead by the illustrious Huang. He seems a friendly sort, thus far, but his notion of music, a song called "Kumbaya", seems a little eccentric for my tastes.

Caesar's Log, 3480BC: Our wise men have perfected a way of forging a metal that harder than anything we've ever encountered. Experiments continue in that vein, hinting at possible new techniques.

Marcus Quintius ventured into a newly discovered village. The clever inhabitants have shared knowledge of new ways to ensnare animals and move through brush and forest rapidly. I'm certain this new discovery will come in handy. They also had an unusual weapon, rock tipped throwing poles. Intriguing. I can imagine this discovery will help our people grow quicker. My generals are salivating over the possibilities this imparts to our military.

Caesar's Log, 2840BC: Our wise men, with a little experimenting, have perfected a shiny new weapon that gleams in the reflected fires of my chamber. To demonstrate its strength, took a branch as thick as a man's leg and hewed in half with one strong swing! The blade did not even have a notch in it afterwards, like our axes tend to acquire. To prove its usefulness as a war weapon, they executed a condemned prisoner before my very eyes with this weapon. Not even an axe chops that cleanly. I'm most impressed.

2560BC.. From the private journal of Warrior Hamilcar Mago...

I stumbled across the borders of the hapless Romans... Verily, they seem to be a backwards people. One can only hope that the beacon of prosperity that shines from glorious Carthage can enlighten their dreary existence...

...log continued: 2400BC. Marcus Quintius, one of our warrior-scouts, has confirmed the location of the Carthaginian homeland after initial reports suggested the location based on the location of the sighted scout.

On another note, we've encountered yet another civilization; Brennus of Ireland. I'm starting to wonder how many civilizations are out there. All of a sudden, this land seems quite small.
