Greetings all.. There have been two suggestions for the next city location. The screenshot is attached below...

I prefer the yellow location as it brings both the luxury of gems (which we already possess near the capital) and the Copper resource.

The red location has been suggested as well as it would give us another coastal city. However, it would delay the connection of Copper, and the lack of any ocean resources to make up for this doesn't seem to make this an ideal location.

What say the people?

I suppose we need to consider here how this may affect city placement for the rest of the continent.

I think inevitably we are going to end up with unused tiles, or overlapped tiles. It just depends how we want to go about this.

May I just suggest, what if we were to put the city on the hills between the red and yellow X???

That would keep us close enough to the copper, and not cause much problem with overlap or wasted tiles to the south.

We can always get chopping the forest to rush some culture improvements to make our borders enclose the copper....

Commerce is our motto here at Tyrell. More commerce is good commerce.

Commerce first. Whatever is going to generate the most commerce the most quickly should be the goal

I think the yellow would be best.  Even though we have iron, we should still go for the copper.  Also, we will still get some commerce from the squares along the river (once we chop the jungle).

I'd rather do it in-between, 1 NE of the Red X and 1 W of the Yellow X...2 resources, little overlap, hills...it's perfectly productive, and that's what you need.

And what's all this about Tryell or whatever?

On the one hand, we don't need the copper unless we're building the Colossus or some wonder because we have iron.  On the other hand, I'd like that copper to be within the borders of some city eventually as it gets a nice production bonus when we mine it.  It is pointless to move it over one tile away from the coast as that is the whole reason Tora suggested it, cause it's on the coast.  Let's see the pros and cons of each position:

Red: pros - coastal city means more commerce, we have a trade route built in so no immediate need for a road.  cons - it doesn't connect with the copper and that city will never work the copper.  This may mess up city placement later if we do want to work it (though that remains to be seen).

Yellow: pros - we get copper and gems in our city square which we get to mine, the fresh water will give an added health bonus when our city is grown a bit.  Lot's of farming/cottage building possibilities.  cons - it will need a road built to connect to capital, we already have iron so the copper's value is significantly less and the potential for immediate commerce is low (though it would seem long term it could be better as cottages grow to towns while sea tiles don't grow commerce without a wonder or something).

I'm kind of leaning toward the yellow placement but I do not argue that the red is not desireable.
