I just recently got an HP laptop, nice specs, so I decided to install Civ Four, which didn't work on my crappy desktop because of horrible specs. I've got Vista, naturally. Anyway, I tried five or so times, but I had tons of troubles. I never got any pop-up screen telling me about installing the game, and when I tried to check the CD-ROM drive on the computer area to see if I could somehow install the game manually, everything froze up, and I had to remove the battery to actually get the computer to get back up (I know, horrible for the computer). So, the point is: Is Civ Four even compatible with Vista? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for how I can get the installation to work? And if it's not possible, is there some sort of patch that will allow Civ 4 to work with Vista? Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Hi Blue.  I recently installed CivIV on a Vista Home desktop w/out any major problems.  However, the install was performed off of a download from Direct2Disk not a DVD/CD.  I had some initial problems with the video display, but some minor tinkering with settings cleared up the issue.  Given that, I think you might be looking at a hardware issue not an OS issue.

hmmmm,  I 'nowed better than to install vista on my hardware...

Lets see... Does Vista have any interesting updates from M$?   I never checked as I don't own enough hardware to run it properly, I stuck with XP Pro.

Perhaps copying the files from the CD/DVD to the computer's harddrive would help?

Sorry,  If you want instant answers try Civfanatics...  More members=more experience with troubleshooting.

Yup, what he said.  Try moving the whole package to your brand new, all kinda empty HD and running it from there.  Couldn't have said it better myself...and I didn't

bluej,

I run CIV IV on Vista without any real difficulties.  As far as your system freezing, I have that problem with just about everything I run a Vista.  It seems to be more of an OS problem than a problem with the game.

Finalement, y'a t'il un patch?

Merci.

I have no experience with Vista....like said before though, try Civfanatics or Apolyton, there might be some help in troubleshooting sections there.

I installed it on my vista laptop last night and had no problems what so ever. Game runs like a dream, had some issues with the music after 3 hours or so - but I think that was an overheating issue - something my laptop suffers from when playing games. Love the game by the way!

Glad to hear it.  Several others have run it without issues as well.
