Good news: it is entirely possible to run Civ4 (latest patch) under Vista. Bad news: it entirely depends upon your system (RAM and graphics card most importantly) Older computers (let's say pre-2004) will have some trouble. What ran under XP won't necessarily be happy under Vista. If you are lucky an expert on this site such as Aintmyprob or Nuclearcow may help, but you will have to gather some data such as game version, operating system, RAM capacity, hard disk space, error messages you have received and, err, anything else you can think of really. The more information the better. There is usually a solution more often than not.

Good luck

Usually the best help is if you can quote the exact error message.  If we can't figure it out or find it on 1BC, we can maybe search Civfanatics or something similar.

Can you please provide the exact error?

Welcome to 1BC!

First off... Vista, (Near future... Windows7 will pretty much be the same from my personal testing) is an absolute memory hog, very little you can do installing any recent games with under two gigs... (I personally wouldn't upgrade to Vista without four gigs as I saw no reason to.) If you have less than that, the short of it is buy memory, and we will talk... If your computer came with less than two gigs, the best option might well be get the XP disk(s) back out and stick there. However if you must run Vista... with any slower / older system. Turn off Aero, and any transparency in the appearance settings... You don't have the hardware for them, and they take too many cpu/gpu cycles for "pretty." Do yourself and anyone trying to help troubleshoot a favor, and acquire SP1 for Vista from MS... Update your graphics card/ onboard video Drivers, and unless it's an install issue, the latest game patch... and if your still experiencing troubles tell us what if any the symptoms are. Screen shots of any errors, symptoms are nice and can be a great help! Starting your own thread is also usually the best idea, unless you have the exact same problem already described, reading the forums months later looking for a solution gets confusing when they are stacked on top of each other in one thread...
