If your running  WINDOWS XPSP2, and follow directions of Nuclear Cow in the initial post here it should solve the prob.  I know, I tried Civfinatics and got the same .dll missing error.  Only through the game itself did I have success.

ADDIT:  My Docuements/My Games/Sid Miers Civilization IV/Patches

Delete the last 1.74 and reinstall civIV.  As the game loads you'll see Options.  Go to ADVANCED/UPDATES.  Reloadupdate from there.  That should do it.

Just installed uopdate 1.74 and now get an error message D3DX9_32DLL

What's going on?

simply do a search and download  D3DX9_32.DLL file. Drop it in the Civ4 root directory: C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4

While you're at it download  D3DX9_31.DLL too. That fixes another error ( forget what it is) that will pop up at the start after upgrading to the 1.74 patch.

I tried downlading the patch from the suggested website and i downloaded the latest version of directx but i still get the message "this application failed to start because BOOST_PYTHON-VC&!-MT-1_32.DLL was not found...". Can someone please tell me what to do so i can play against others on-line. Thank you!

thankyou for the fix...i hate windows..why won't they add the direct x update to the windows auto installer...why!!!???..why make this operating system and then hide the perks of owning it.

Just downloaded patch 1.74 and get error message saying " unable to locate shader library.

I've just installed game on new pc which is running vista and when i start game it says compatability issues.. but can still run programme sucessfully, could this be related to patch problem
