Well, I've gotten around to starting it. That position is.... nasty, to put it lightly... large deserts, aggressive neighbors (I'm now at war with everyone except the Babylonians), and a very disagreeable continent shape.
I did manage to get the SoZ, which is helping tremendously. I actually had to abandon my fourth city to prevent the Iroquois from taking it earlier, but now that the AC are pouring out (and most of my opponents are only sending warriors and archers at me) I'm in a firm position. I just need to expand now, as I'm the smallest by FAR. The Zulus have yet to expand into that nearby peninsula, and the land there is much better than the land in other directions.
Wish me luck, I'm going to need it.

Emulator of Otto von Bismarck, Master of realpolitik, May he rest in peace.
But the liberals should be careful of screaming too loud ... of conspiring too well ... of undermining us too thoroughly. Because if they succeed, if they do get what they insist they want, then the result may well be something they never conceived ... "They have made a desolation, and they call it peace." ~Tacitus~ ... but a peace controlled by our former enemies.

Played quite a bit last night and this morning. Don't want to go into much detail (obviously), but things aren't looking good. With my AC I managed to raze a few cities of all of my antagonists, and they then consented to signing peace treaties (in my favor ). I expanded a bit, though not as much as I'd have liked to. My terrain is still largely crap. My borders are, however, stable, and that means I can build up a bit and maybe be a bit aggressive.I razed a few Zulu cities to get control of the wines near Zimbabwe, and then disaster strikes. The Iroquois and Babylonians have been in a war for a while, but neither had made an advance until now. The Iroquois have saltpeter, the Babs don't, and the Iroquois suddenly make startling advances. As they're already far and away the most powerful, I don't want them crushing the Babs, who are supposedly the second most powerful. I gifted them saltpeter, but I don't think they'll be able to stem the tide so late in the war. I might have to declare war on the Iroquois myself, but I really don't want to. It's the end of the Middle ages now, and whether or not I can make headway against the Iroquois might be what makes or breaks the game for me. How exciting! I haven't been challenged this much at Monarch level since I first started! Again, wish me luck, 'cuz I sure as heck need it...
