I rushed to get done, but was out of town for the weekend, then that darned Halloween that I had to take the kids out for....I finished this morning. Space Race victory in late 1800s. Score in the mid-3500, if I recall
I started by moving NE to get off the bonus shiled, not thinking about that putting me off off the fresh water. Oh well, had construction before I could really get above 6 anyway...
I beelined for code of laws, then went for philo hoping to get Republic as the free. Japan threatened me to give him writing while I was working on code of laws, which I didn't want to do since it would make it more likely he'd get philo before me. When I said no, he attacked. Was able to make peace just before he took a pop from me....in exchange for writing...
When I did get Philo, yep, Japan had gotten there first, so no free tech.
I then got iron working and built like 2 swordsmen when Japan launched an attack on me. He burned down one pop, and I focused on building all swordsmen. I took extra care with my elite swordsmen, and got a leader. I built an army, and with the bruit force of that army, took out Japan totally.
I set up work to build the Forbidden City in Kyoto to bring down corruption in former Japan, got roads to Russia and India to trade luxuries, moved as many cities south as possible, and then set about building up my cities.
Fairly uneventful for a time. Building, building building. Just missed getting Copernicus's workshop, but did get sistine chapple and Newton's workshop.
Russia got Temple of Zeus. Just as I got military tradition, Russia rushed me with massed ancient cav and knights was scary for a time, but I broguht India and France in on my side, and with modern cav we were able to slice and dice her. Russia was left with nothing but one pop on a size one island that I couldnt' get to.
After a brief pause to build up my cav levels, I took out India with help of France.
In industrial age, I got ToE, Hoover Damn, women's sufferage.
When I got Panzers, I took out France.
In modern times I got every wonder.
I decided against going after Maya and getting a quick domination victory. I worked on getting a cultural victory looking for a better score. In modern times, I was cranking out a tech every 4 turns and running a surplus doing it.
It has been a LONG time (like Civ II) since I've built off shore platforms and manufacturing facilities....
I built the spaceship planning on having it ready in case one of the other nations got close... but, when I finished the last piece, there was no option except launch...
