My pretties, it would seem that the ball has started rolling. Already Omega is trying to forge Alpha's constitution, and Alpha has attempted to blow up Omega's HQ. Great stuff... but we have some things to decide that should not end up in either team's sign up thread. I can think of these:

- turnover rate (hehe)
- game speed
- game settings
- victory conditions

As pointed out by that local madman, three years is a long time. If we settle on a turn a day, possibly excluding weekends, a regular game may even take 4 years. That just sucks. We have to make use of the many tools that BtS supplies to cut down our estimated time of annihilation. A quick game will go quicker; so will: starting in medieval times (or later), having advanced start points, playing on a smaller map. I'm sure there are other ways as well.

With victory conditions I'm thinking of superimposed rules, such as loss of capital = defeat; twice the points of other team = victory.

I think a quick duel that gets decided around Christmas will be more fun than a large map that will have a final confrontation in 2010. Are you with me! "NAY!" Are you against me! "NAY!" Oh crap, here we go again...

A duel may actually be fun.  I agree with starting in a later than ancient setting too.  It would be nice to play with the corporations at one point too.  What about a tiny map with two continents and two civs per continent, each having an AI and a human team.  That gives us some alone time and then the prospect of a human team war towards the end.

- turnover rate (hehe) - I think that each team should be given 24 hours to play each turn.  That way, no matter where in the globe you are, you won't have an excuse for not playing.  I think there should be no minimum amount of time though so if possible (and our government style permits ), we can fly through a few turns a day at times.
- game speed - fastest IMO
- game settings - I guess this could be polled but I'd like a smallish map with not too many AI.  Maybe a funky type of map like the inland sea thingy?
- victory conditions - I think domination should definately be allowed as well as time.  Diplomatic almost seems pointless.  Your other uncoventional VC's sound intriguing as well.

I agree with most of that, though Christmas is a bit optimistic - that only gives us 70 turns (approx) at one turn per team per working day so anything we can to to get the turnover rate up would be high priority.

We also need to dictate, er, discuss what reports, if any, should be posted so that the outside world may marvel at our deeds of cunning and cruelty (us) or indecisive paralysis (them)

Omega got first pick of team names, so I insist that Alpha get first pick of headquarters!

Oh, and I agree with all of the above.

For the record ... I don't have BTS (I know, I know) but if I can assist in a non-player aspect, I am offering my services ... as limited as they might be.

If HE joins either team, I'm leaving. The guy's a jerk ... and you can tell him I said that too.

I don't know how you feel about this TC, but perhaps we could employ your services as a roving journalist and war correspondent. If both leaders of each team write up full reports for their teams once a week, and if you had access to each team's private forum, you could report on anything interesting in the form of an article or newspaper column, with comments, pics, interviews, you-name-it. An independent observer might prove just the interface we need between the two teams and the "outside world" - a problem that has been bugging me since the outset.

And if not you, maybe someone else....? What do you think?

That's an idea, but I don't know if anyone (other than Mongoose) will be allowed to have access to both private forums. Obviously one would have to be very careful. It could also be that each team have a reporter which reports from their side of things into a "joint" newspaper - in this area which is accessible by anyone.

As the resident madman ... do despots allow free press?
